Digimon: Survive Release Date & What We Know So Far

[ad_1]

Last Updated:

While Digimon video games aren’t exactly rare, it’s been a while since we had a full Triple-A game that was designed specifically with consoles in mind. Sure, there were a few pS4 entries, but they were mostly ports and enhancements of the PS Vita titles. That’s why so many fans are excited by the prospect of Digimon: Survive.

It seems like this game will take us back to both the original anime series, as well as the era of Digimon World on PS1, a game that an insane number of people love with a passion. With that in mind, we’ve put together as much relevant release information as we can about the upcoming title.

Digimon: Survive Release Date

Digimon: Survive has been doing the rounds since at least 2018, with many different promised release dates and updates along the way. The latest update was eventually given at the end of 2021, but it had been promised earlier that year in the Spring, prompting an official apology from publisher Bandai Namco.

Luckily, this update did confirm the game’s latest release window. According to the statement from Bandai Namco, Survive will be released at some point during 2022. So far, there hasn’t been an official gameplay reveal, but we do know that the game is coming to PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One, and will presumably be playable on next-gen systems thanks to backward compatibility.

Digimon: Survive What We Know So Far

The biggest clues about the storyline and gameplay of the title we have mostly come from interviews with the developer, and the release of the game’s opening cinematic back in July 2019. It seems that the same will be mixing visual novel elements with the more typical RPG gameplay that you’d expect from a Digimon game. Your decisions during novel sections will have a big impact on the storyline.

For instance, your decisions can change which Digimon your partner evolves into, as well as the path of the storyline. The biggest impact comes on the lives of the characters, as bad decision-making will apparently cause certain characters to die. This being the case, it seems like Digimon: Survive is aiming for a much darker interpretation of the source material.

You can check out the opening cinematic below if you haven’t already seen it. The animation at least looks really well done, so that’s probably a good sign.
