The latest game in the Pokémon series, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, introduces us to an entirely new region of not only new Pokémon, but new people, too.
As you adventure through the Hisui region in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, there are six distinct locations; Jubilife Village, Obsidian Fieldlands, Crimson Mirelands, Cobalt Coastlands, Coronet Highlands and Alabaster Icelands. Each of these locations will introduce you to a series of brand-new Pokémon NPCs. So let’s find out all the protagonists’ names in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
All characters in Pokémon Legends: Arceus
The Galaxy Expedition Team
The Galaxy Team is the central group of Pokémon Legends: Arceus protagonists that leads the game’s story, the role of which is to research not only the Hisui region, but the Pokémon that reside there. You will join the Team as you begin your adventure in Hisui, undertaking the challenge to uncover the wonders of Noble Pokémon.
Rei and Akari
Either Rei or Akari will be your companion as you journey through the Hisui region. Which character appears in your game depends on the chosen gender of your player character. If you choose to play as the female variant, Rei will join you on your adventure. Choose the male player character, and Akari will accompany you as your friend.
Professor Laventon is the Professor character for Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Like Professor Oak, Sycamore, Kukui, and all the others before him, you will be introduced to him near the start of the game, when he gives you your choice of starter Pokémon.
Kamado is the leader of the Galaxy Team of which you become a part as you start your Hisuian adventure. Pokémon Legends: Arceus confirms that Kamado is an ancestor of the Sinnoh region’s Professor Rowan.
Cyllene is a Captain of the Galaxy Team, leading the Survey Corp. While Kamado is the only character with a confirmed descendant in Sinnoh, there is speculation that Cyllene is related to Team Galactic’s leader Cyrus due to their undeniable resemblance to one another. As such, it is also widely believed that there is a link between the Galaxy Team and Team Galactic, the villainous team of antagonists in Sinnoh’s Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.
We were first introduced to Wardens, a group of individuals tasked with looking over the region’s Noble Pokémon, in one of the early trailers for Pokémon Legends: Arceus. These new faces will become part of your journey as you investigate and battle these new Noble Pokémon.
Lian is a young Warden looking after the new Hisuian Scyther evolution Kleavor, the first Noble Pokémon and major boss you’ll take on in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. He is a member of the Pearl clan, led by Irida.
Mai and her partner Munchlax are responsible for watching over the rideable Pokémon Wyrdeer, a new Hisuian-exclusive evolutionary form of Stantler. Like Cyllene, Mai, too, bears an incredible likeness to a well-known Sinnoh NPC, Marley (who’s name, incidentally, is Mai in Japanese). Again, no relation is yet confirmed, but their likeness in name and appearance is unlikely to be a coincidence, especially given a cryptic clue on pokemon.com which states “there are other people in this game who might also be ancestors to familiar faces you may know.”
Warden Iscan looks after another rideable Pokémon, Hisuian Basculegion, the Hisuian evolution of Basculin. According to his official backstory, Iscan scares easily, so isn’t a fan of Ghost-type Pokémon.
The Diamond and Pearl Clans
Alongside the Galaxy Team are two other teams living in Hisui, the Diamond Clan and the Pearl Clan. These two clans both look up to special Noble Pokémon, or – as they call them – lords and ladies, but are often at odds with one another due to their leaders’ opposing views.
Diamond Clan leader Adaman
Adaman leads the Diamond Clan with his partner Leafeon by his side. He is a frantic individual, rushing into things before he thinks – a behaviour that causes friction between himself and the leader of the Pearl Clan, Irida.
Pearl Clan leader Irida
Irida, meanwhile, is a cautious young lady, and doesn’t trust people lightly. However, as you help in calming down Hisui’s Noble Pokémon, Irida – and her partner Glaceon – will come to trust you in time.
Finally, the Ginkgo Guild is a group of travelling salespeople who set up and sell their unusual finds around the whole of Hisui.
Ginter leads the Gingko Guild and keeps the guild together with his “strong leadership.” He has a particular interest in the unusual, which explains some of the items you can buy from him.
Much like his leader Ginter, Volo has a strong sense of curiosity and also loves unearthing strange finds. He also spends most of time roaming around the Hisui regions, and, as such, you may find yourself bumping into him often. There is speculation that his appearance is strikingly similar to that of Sinnoh’s Cynthia, so there could be another familial significance to unearth here.
