Elden Ring Cliffbottom Catacombs Guide

[ad_1]

Last Updated:

There is a huge amount of dungeons to be found all over the world of Elden Ring, but some are harder to find (and beat) than others. To help you out with that, we’ve decided to put together this Cliffbottom Catacombs guide that should make the journey through this particular dungeon a little bit easier.

How to Find the Cliffbottom Catacombs

You’ll find the Cliffbottom Catacombs in the second major area of the game that you come to after beating Godrick the Grafted. However, if you want to get here a bit earlier for some reason, we have a guide on skipping straight to this area. Once you’re in Liurnia, specifically at the Lake Facing Cliffs point of grace, you’re ready to start your proper journey. From the aforementioned point of grace, head northeast until you come to the edge of a cliff. From here, you should be able to see a path down the cliff face by using your horse to leapfrog across the headstones jutting out of the side of the mountain.

Once you’re safely on the ground, head north and follow the road until you see the telltale signs of a point of grace. Activate it to make sure that you don’t have to do that stupid cliff jump again. Once you’ve activated it, keep following the road north, weaving in and out of the huge structures as you go. You’ll eventually come across the Liurnia Highway North point of grace which you should also activate. From here it’s pretty simple.

Cliffbottom Catacombs Directions

Look to the east from the point of grace to see a statue that points you towards the dungeon. From the statue, head straight south hugging the edge of the cliff. As you enter a narrow passage filled with trees be on the lookout for those tiny enemies with bleeding weapons because they love to ambush you here. You should find the entrance to the dungeon on the wall of the cliff to your right about halfway down the path. Enter and activate the point of grace to begin.

Cliffbottom Catacombs Walkthrough

This dungeon can be a bit of a doozy, especially if you’re here early and unprepared. Lots of the enemies here cause bleeding damage, so make sure you have some Staunching Boluses on you and get ready. Head down the stairs and jump onto the lift. Once you’re at the bottom, don’t charge ahead at that enemy, there’s another just around the corner to the right who will ambush you. Bait the enemies and take them out one by one, then proceed around the corner and down the stairs.

Cliffbottom Catacombs Hidden Enemy

The door ahead of you is the boss room and is currently locked, so instead, just turn right. Before you enter this area, be prepared to dodge because another imp is ready to try and make you bleed. Take him out and then keep moving forward. There are no enemies in the upper area here so move onto the top of the nearby staircase. If you hit lock-on, you should be able to lock onto an imp on the landing above you. Aggro him with a ranged attack, then finish him off once he jumps down to get you.

Before moving on, stop on the landing below and look off the left side of the ledge if you’re facing the stairs from the bottom. Hit lock-on to find an ogre downstairs. If you want, you can make things easier later by taking this guy out from a safe distance now. Either way, be careful heading down the next corridor, as a pressure plate is inked up to an arrow trap that does a decent amount of damage, you can use it to kill the imp that charges at you though, as well as the one who charges around the corner. Once they’re both dead, sneak into the next chamber carefully.

Time for Stealth

Go into stealth mode and move forward underneath the landing instead of going up the stairs. There’s a sleeping ogre under here who is supposed to be guarding the Grove Glowart [3]. Pick it up and move back and then up the stairs. On the next landing, you’ll find another patrolling ogre. You can try to sneak by him but the chamber ahead of you houses another imp who wants you dead and requires you to have a keystone. However, you choose to deal with the situation, be careful that you don’t get too noisy as this will wake the ogre downstairs and give you double trouble.

There are also two imps on the landing above this area who will start chucking magic bombs at you as soon as combat begins. If that happens, try to lead the ogre into the side room if you unlocked it, otherwise, you’ll just have to watch your back as best you can. Take out the imps as well, then explore the area to find some sweet look underneath the ledge, and in the room, you just unlocked. Then, head up the stairs and carefully approach the next corridor.

There’s another pressure plate in this area with more arrow traps, as well as an imp who is trying his hardest to stay hidden. Aggro him with a ranged attack and take him out when he approaches you. There’s another imp around the corner that you can give the same treatment to. Grab the Grave Glowort [2] just ahead of you, and then go down the corridor that isn’t the one you just used.

Cliffbottom Catacombs Not Very Hidden

No traps or tricks in this little corridor, but move into the next room very carefully. There are imps everywhere around here, so you’ll need to move very slowly if you want to only take on one or two at a time. Head around the corner and ignore the ledge to your right, as that leads back to the stairs by the entrance. Take out the imps in the corridor to the right, then turn around to take on a third one who aggros when you do. Grab the loot and then head back into the main section of the room.

From here, look through the doorway opposite the ledge to see two very obvious imps. Watch out for the tiny corridor ahead of you as there is another arrow trap on the floor. Take them out one at a time either with ranged attacks or by aggroing them from a distance and waiting for them to come to you. Enter the room carefully, and you’ll notice that there’s one more imp on the wall ahead, take him out in the same way then clear the room of loot.

Enter The Pit

Cliffbottom Catacombs Hidden Danger

Now we’ve cleared the side area of loot, jump back down onto the staircase from the main room. From here, you can either go back and rest if you’re feeling weak, or jump down into that dark pit where you killed the ogre before. This area is a central pit surrounded by two corridors patrolled by another ogre. If you want the loot from these corridors, you can get it easily by sneaking around behind the ogre in question. Once you’ve got it, head down the only exit from this pit.

Stay in stealth mode unless you feel super confident fighting these ogres. As you round the corner, you’ll see one heading towards you. Carefully pick your way around the trap on the floor and sneak quickly into the right-back corner of the room. Wait for the ogre to get into the room, and then you can sneak behind him and ignore him completely. No more traps or imps waiting for you now, just make your way to the ladder at the end and climb up.

At the top of the ladder, there’s an ogre in front of the altar. You can take him out if you want, or just sneak to the right, grab the loot and flip the switch to unlock the boss.

Erdtree Burial Watchdog Bossfight

Cliffbottom Catacombs Erdtree Burial Watchdog AOE

Considering how tough the dungeon was, this boss is pretty weak, especially if you have a good magic defense. He only has 3 different attacks: a ground point AOE, launching slow-moving projectiles in a ring, and going onto his hind legs to smash you with his stick. The first one you can just back away from pretty reliably, but be careful as it packs a punch and this room isn’t all that big. For his second attack, keep moving either left or right, then roll twice in the direction you’re moving once the projectiles hit you. That final attack might as well not exist. When he’s in melee mode he moves incredibly slowly, so just run away and use the chance to heal or recharge your FP.

Other than that, things to watch out for include the fact that this guy is made of stone. If you’re using a slashing weapon you’re going to have a bad time. Make sure you’ve got something that does strike damage, or preferably a magic/projectile weapon. Just keep your distance and use his long recovery time from that magic AOE to take him down piece by piece.
