BoConcept Reports 30% U.S. Store Network Growth and 50% Increased Revenue

BoConcept, the contemporary Danish furniture franchise with more than 300 franchise locations in 65 countries, reported 30% growth in its U.S. store network in 2021. The brand went from 13 to 17 stores and is expected to top 20-plus U.S. stores in 2022, when it will celebrate its 70th anniversary. On top of the expanded footprint in 2021, BoConcept also reported that sales hit an all-time high, increasing 50%.


The growth of the brand in the U.S. was attributed to consumer behavior following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which kept many at home with a renewed focus on redecorating and finishing home projects, as well as BoConcept’s focus on its online platform.


“Consumers have been embracing modern luxury and people’s appetite for shopping in stores has been increasing,” said Steen Knigge, director of U.S. marketing at BoConcept. “We have continued to see record-breaking sales in 2020 and 2021, and we are looking forward to opening more storefronts while also closing more online sales. Americans are spending more money on their home decor than ever before, and it is helping support our franchisee’s local businesses at the same time.”


The four new stores that opened in the U.S. were in Berkeley, California; Dedham, Massachusetts; Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and Palm Desert, California. The best-performing store for the brand was San Francisco followed by the Madison Avenue store in New York City and Santana Row in San Jose, California.


The brand is proud of the growth it reported in 2021 following a year of obstacles and setbacks that many industries also faced, including long-lasting supply issues and staffing shortages.


“The biggest challenge we encountered during the year was the global supply chain issue, which disrupted our lead times,” added Knigge. “We’re seeing much better performance lately, but the issue is expected to remain in the short to mid-term. However, with our tools and resources, BoConcept remains confident in its ability to provide customers with an exceptional buying experience. Staffing was another challenge our franchise partners had to deal with this year, but the network managed to serve our clients without disruptions and by tapping into technology solutions.”


BoConcept Prepares for 70th Anniversary Celebration with Year-Long Campaign


Following the success of 2021, BoConcept is preparing to celebrate its 70th anniversary through a year-long campaign featuring a host of activities including store events, new marketing assets, a new collection launching in September 2022, and several engaging client activities. Calling it the “Year of EKSTRAORDINÆR,” BoConcept will do a soft launch of its celebration campaign beginning in February, with a full launch in March and April.
