After purchasing several Onkyo products, which I did like but they all had over-heating and chip failure issues after a few years, I switched to this Denon product. It is even easier to set-up and the sound quality is fantastic. It does change volume in 0.5 increments, which is mildly annoying… but that might just be me. I do recommend this product for price, build quality and ease of set-up.

I was worried about sound components not working with each other. I have an Apple TV that uses E Arc audio. The first HDMI cable I bought was a very popular rocketfish one that only had a couple reviews of earc, I think someone said it worked, but it did not for me. Womp Womp. Was it just a bad one? So I bought the highly reviewed and ultra cheap Best Buy hdmi cable for eArc. It amazingly worked like everyone said it would. I hooked this denon up to a Klipsch r-120sw subwoofer and some old very small center and side speakers with a mediabridge ultra y cable and the sound is truly amazing. In case anyone needs this info like I did: the sub didn’t work at first with a Y cable. I bought the Mediabridge ultra one because I saw other reviews saying it is great. But the sub didn’t work at first, it only put out some deep sound when something crashed in a movie and I had no music sound from it. I wondered if I was using the wrong cable, but even Klipsch suggested that a Y cable would give me the best sub sound (even though the 3 page sub manual did not say this). So I kept the Y cable and found info on an “advanced setting” in the Denon. I changed LFE to “Lfe + main” and now everything works, music, tv, all of it. The sound is awesome and perfect. There are other settings you can tweak to your liking in the denon, to change the audio, but I haven’t needed to. It all sounds amazing. I am pretty much posting this info to all components because I had to dig through it all myself and maybe this will help someone else.

Always wanted a Denon but usually settled for Sony. This AVR-S970H puts out amazing sound and the setup, later settings, and remote control are very convenient. The assisted room setup took a few minutes but the software integrated into the S970H made it easy and we are getting great results. We are using with an older set of Bose 5.1 channel surround speakers & SW, but we are now prepared for 7.2 and beyond. We have an 18′ by 26′ great room. The speaker array is at 12′ from the receiver both side to side front and distance to rear speakers. the AVR-S970H fills the entire room and excellent surround sound when sitting inside the 12 ft array. Our rear speakers are elevated 6.5 ft.

So I bought this so that my councils would work just as if they were directly plugged into the TV but with the enhanced theater sound of course. I was not disappointed as it all works great!I was surprised that my TV remote continued to adjust the volume so I did not have to use the receiver’s remote which can tend to quickly adjust the volume if pressed too hard or long.As for the sound, it’s amazing. This is an upgrade from a 10+ year old receiver and its just what I needed. My only gripe is I like to watch movies and TV through my smart TV apps. The problem here is you cannot see the on-screen receiver menus to adjust settings. For instance, there is a setting to change the range of the volume from being super loud to quiet and I cannot access it because I cannot see the interface. Not a big problem just kind of annoying.

I enjoy this Home theater, its features, style, sound, everything. The quality of Denon can’t be compare with others, made in another countries. I recomemd this product without any reserve.

I purchased this to replace my Yamaha 7.1 channel surround sound receiver in my main entertainment setup. I love the features Denon incorporated to make this a more than capable amplifier to drive my Polk RM7500 5.2 speakers. I will be looking to get some Dolby Atmos front height satellites to make this a more immersive 5.2.2 sound experience. I also love it being a node on my wifi network as well as the Bluetooth connectivity. It is already pretty explosive on game days!

I bought a new 4k 65 inch oled TV. It has an eARC HDMI port and 3 more HDMI ports. My old Sony STR-DE885 surround sound AV receiver had ZERO HDMI ports. It was time to upgrade! I bought this new Denon AV receiver because it had 4k HDMI ports and 8k HDMI ports. I needed to connect a 4k UHD bluray player, a 4k Dish Network Joey, a HD DVD recorder, a HD security camera system and an old 5 CD carousel player to my surround sound speakers. This work horse has enough inputs to handle everything. I was pleasantly surprised that it also uses CEC communications within the HDMI connections. Now everything is automated. Just turn on the 4k joey and the TV turns on. Then the TV turns the Denon on and selects the correct function. Turn the bluray on and the Denon automatically switches to the bluray player. Now my wife is happy. She does not have to use multiple remotes to watch TV and control the surround sound volume. Cool, I like it when electronic devices work together without having to program everthing.

The remote control is not great, but that’s irrelevant if you use ARC and configure your TV or cable box remote to adjust receiver options.Easy setup, runs much cooler than my previous Yamaha, and sounds great on a modest 5.1 in-wall setup.

Setup is easy, and specs are good for the price. Slightly more compact than some equivalents from other brands

I have for some time felt my Sony AV receiver just wasn’t up to par on the sound. It also didn’t have a phono input for my vintage 1980’s Dual turntable I had been wanting to rehab, so I made the decision to update/upgrade receivers. Never having owned any Denon product I went strictly by online reviews and features.I am not disappointed! This receiver has sufficient power to rattle your windows, or reproduce the softest music you might desire. The remote control is used for the setup, which is a menu-driven app within the receiver itself, and even has little videos for the total newbie who doesn’t kow how to hook up speakers. There is also an app for your smartphone that doubles as an extra remote control. I hooked this receiver up to my 7.1 speaker array which includes DCM TP260-CH pair as the front (and main 2 channel) speakers. I am an old DCM nut from the early 80’s; I love my old Time Windows and the newer DCMs have video shielding, so I updated a few years back. My Dual turntable now has been refurbished, so I felt ready to get a new receiver and give it a spin. Prime Delivery could not be fast enough to ease my anticipation. And this new Denon rocks! I never heard vinyl records sound so good! This Denon unit not only SOUNDS superb; the video is breathtaking as well on a LG G1 4K largescreen TV. Watching 4K Top Gun: Maverick exceeded any experience I could possibly have watching in a theater. Whatever equipment you currently have, I believe the Denon AVR-S970H will improve your experience whether you are watching movies or listening to your favorite tunes. I am not a video game player, so I cannot critique the processors for that; however, I would be shocked if the Denon did not deliver top notch gaming performance as well.Everything is well thought out from the appearance to the setup to the controls. Ample HDMI connections (see back panel pic) and eARC functionality make it as versatile as any unit can be for home theater. I especially like the flexibilty of assignable speaker connections for surround versus zone 2 (a second room) and 8K processing (even though I have no 8K TV).My ONLY criticism is that there are no tape deck connections as Denon has on some of their less expensive stereo amplifiers. When I wrote them about this on their website, their answer was that cassette tsape decks are not coming back like vinyl is. (Excuse me?!) I guess Denon thinks one cannot be both a surround sound home theater buff and an analog music buff at the same time. The Denon AVR-S970H is a 90 W/channel beast of a performer that won’t let you down; it is most worthy of your consideration and should be a dependable unit for years to come. Hope this helps!
