Celestron 81035 Basic Smartphone Adapter 1.25″ Capture Your Discoveries, Black

  • This smartphone adapter connects your smartphone to a telescope, binocular, spotting scope, or microscope, so you can capture images and video through the eyepiece.
  • Works with most smartphone devices.
  • Compatible with most telescope eyepieces and any eyepiece with an outside diameter measuring from 29mm to 45mm.
  • Simple to use! Place your phone in the adapter, center your phone’s camera over the eyepiece, and use the knobs to secure the adapter in place.
  • Durable, metal bodied adapter stands up to rigorous use in the field and harsh weather conditions.

Capture and share your observations through just about any optic with this handy, simple-to-use smartphone adapter. Whether you’re snapping an Instagram-worthy image of the Moon, sharing your latest wildlife sightings with a binocular or spotting scope, or preserving lab specimens with your microscope, this versatile adapter handles it all with ease.

No matter which optic you choose, installing and using the adapter is hassle-free. First, place your phone in the adapter. It’s held securely in position with the help of tightening knobs that lock your phone in place. Next, align the phone’s camera with the center of the eyepiece. Once you’ve determined the perfect position, clamp the adapter over the top of the eyepiece and use the knobs to adjust for a secure fit.

Note: Some large and/or bulky phone cases (including folio style cases) may need to be removed for the phone to fit in the adapter.

Once the phone is mounted over the eyepiece, you can capture still images or video, plus access all the rest of your phone’s features. You can even text your photos to a friend or post them on social media while your phone is still mounted in the adapter.

To determine if your optic is compatible with the Basic Smartphone Adapter, simply measure the outside diameter of your eyepiece. If it falls within the 29mm to 45mm range, you may use it with this adapter. The adapter does not work with riflescopes.

Ultimately, this is a good adapter. But, it is a little hard to get the camera lens on your phone lined up with the telescope lens so that it will record a photo. But once I got it lined up, it did a good job of holding the phone in such a way that I could take some pretty good photos!

I was afraid this would not work well with my iphone 13 pro max but since im on a budget I decided id get this based on the high ranking reviews and low cost, then return it if it didn’t work out.Well it worked out!! Much better than i expected. If you’re in the same situation with the same phone you’ll want to mount the eyepiece centered on the lower left lens, which is the “pro” lens. Then i suggest using an app specifically for astrophotography so you can make manual adjustments as necessary to the iso, exposure and focus. I suggest using the astrophotography tab within the “night sky” ios app. I was photographing through my 6mm eyepiece in no time. Super simple to change lenses while keeping the mount attached to the phone.Besides astrophotography this attachment makes for a great “screen” for your telescope for group viewing or to avoid back/neck strain from hunching over to peer into an eyepiece! I wasnt expecting it to work nearly this well!!!I am delighted with this mount!! Looking forward to spending many long nights with this.

All these reviews saying it doesn’t work for centerline cameras probably shouldn’t be attempting any sort of amateur astronomy, since you’ll need to master the subtle art of knob turning to adjust your tripod, and screw in eyepieces. It’s rough, but there are several adjustment knobs to ensure proper fit. You turn it, and tighten it, and WOAH! The impossible centerline camera is lined up.On the subject of button pushing, you’ve got the option to extend the arm to avoid buttons. First attempt I managed to set it up with my buttons on my OnePlus 7 covered, and, bear with me here I know it may seem insane, but you don’t HAVE to cinch it to hulk grip strength. You can secure it even with power button covered without pushing it.There are three adjustments available to ensure centering. I know critical thinking skills are getting harder to come by these days, but HONESTLY. If it doesn’t line up first try, you assess. See where it needs to be and then with simple logic figure out which of these three adjustments you’ll need to make. Then unscrew, adjust, and tighten.Wait for it I’m about to blow some minds.I also included a picture of a Galaxy s8 secured into the holder centered and all.And you thought it couldn’t be doneAlso whoever said it was cheap plastic was obviously feeling a bit salty over their failures facing off with the plethora of knobs. It’s surprisingly heavy.

Firstly, I managed to get this at the $15 price so I didn’t expect a whole lot beyond simple functionality. But upon opening the package I found it had a bit of weight and sturdiness to it. I gotta say, it’s pretty solid. The grips on the phone and on whatever optics you’re using is firm without needing to be ridiculously torqued down. Once the two elements are positioned normal usage should not budge them from alignment. But there lies the one drawback; establishing good alignment takes a bit of effort. The knob to secure the phones position is not in the most convenient location but it works. I’ve already taken some test pics and so far I’m happy. Now we’ll just have to see if the quality lasts. I’ll update that later.Additionally, the phone clamp will open up to 3.75”, the eyepiece clamp opens to 1.75”. I believe that should fit most phones and standardized telescopes & binoculars.
