Samsung Odyssey Neo G8: Release date, pricing, specs, latest news

[ad_1]

Last Updated:

Samsung took the pleasure of announcing the new Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 at CES this month – another high-performance mini LED monitor to add to the already impressive Odyssey lineup.

The new 32 inch gaming monitor from Samsung will feature a 3840 x 2160 (UHD 4K) screen resolution alongside a rapid 240Hz refresh rate – making it the first UHD panel to feature a 240Hz refresh rate.

As always, we’ll be bringing you all the latest details regarding the Samsung Odyssey Neo G8, including release dates, pricing, sizes, and specifications.

Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 release date: What we know so far

While we don’t have a concrete release date, a Samsung Korea press release does suggest that the monitors will be available in the first half of 2022.

With that in mind, we’re already seeing Samsung Neo G8 placeholder product pages on various retailers, accompanied by “coming soon” tags. Again, while this isn’t a release date, it does suggest that the monitors are just around the corner.

Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 specifications

Thanks to retailer product listings and press releases from Korea, we’ve been able to cobble together a pretty comprehensive specifications list for the new Odyssey Neo G8.

  • 32″ screen size
  • VA technology panel
  • 3840 x 2160 UltraHD (4K) resolution
  • 1000R curvature
  • 240Hz refresh rate
  • 1 million:1 contrast ratio
  • 600 cd/m2 brightness (SDR), 2000 cd/m2 peak brightness (HDR)
  • 1ms G2G response time quoted
  • Adaptive-sync for VRR from NVIDIA and AMD systems
  • Mini LED backlight with an expected 1,196 dimming zones (TBC)
  • 2x HDMI 2.1 ports
  • 1x DisplayPort 1.4 port
  • 2x USB 3.0 ports and an audio out
  • ‘CoreSync’ function that automatically recognizes the color of the screen and matches the back lighting and color of the product
  • ‘Auto Source Switch+’, which automatically recognizes and switches input when an external device like a console is turned on

As you can see from the list above, the Neo G8 will be an incredibly potent piece of kit – matching the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 in many aspects.

Despite no details regarding color gamuts and general accuracy, we’d expect to see a WCG of at least 95% DCI-P3 – especially if the monitor is due to deliver HDR 2000 support.

Samsung Odyssey Neo G8: Sizing

As far as size goes, it looks like the Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 will only come to shelves in a 32 inch variant.

Unlike the G7, which featured 27 inch and 32 inch variations, the same doesn’t look likely for the Neo G8. This is probably due to the specifications that drive the G8. With a 4K screen resolution, the display wouldn’t be well-optimized.

That being said, users can expect the same famous 1000R curved display that we saw on both the G7 and G9 models.

Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 potential price

Again, there is no official Odyssey Neo G8 pricing at present. However, Overclockers have a pre-order price of £1,299.99 – putting it around the price of the last-gen Odyssey G9.

That normally translates to around $1,499.99 in the US – making the Neo G8 a fairly attractive prospect (especially when all specifications are considered).

Should you buy the Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 when it releases?

So, there you have it, everything we currently know about the Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 – a very impressive-looking 32 inch 4K gaming monitor.

If you’re in the market for a new high-performance 4K gaming monitor, we’d definitely recommend waiting this one out. It is by far the fastest 4K monitor we’ve ever seen, featuring specifications that are more geared towards esports gaming than hobbyists.

Better yet, it comes to shelves at a price that, when considering alternative options in today’s market, is considered incredibly good value for money. I don’t want to speak too soon, but it looks like Samsung have smashed it out of the park once again.
