Arguably, the most anticipated Micro 4/3 camera of the year is finally here! As promised, today Panasonic has introduced the brand new Lumix GH6 which is packed with a ton of stunning video-oriented features and cutting-edge technology that certainly exceed expectations.

The newcomer boasts the powerful Venus Engine which enables fast sensor readouts for internal recording of 5.7K video up to 60fps, DCI 4K at 60p with 4:2:2 10-bit sampling along with staggering slow motion up to 300fps in Full HD mode.

On top, GH6 users will get access to a plethora of video assists features, internal ProRes HQ recording, pre-installed V-log picture profile, in-body, sensor-shift, 5-axis image stabilization, active cooling system, and much more.

Unlike its predecessors, the all-new Pansonic GH6 provides unlimited recording time whereas the processing speed of the autofocus has been tripled. The updated algorithm calculates the distance to your subject and predicts whether it is moving closer or further away from the camera, anticipating where it will be for the following frame.

The 5-axis image stabilization, on the other hand, can provide up to 7.5 stop shake compensation and it supports Dual IS with select lenses. The built-in sensor-shift technology works seamlessly with the optical image stabilization, thus delivering rock-solid results along with the Boost I.S. mode which is the most extreme form of electronic stabilization, simulating a shot locked off on a tripod.

Furthermore, shooting in V-Log and V-Gamut on the GH6 will give you 12+ stops of dynamic range, which can be increased to 13+ stops by activating its dual-analog gain circuits with Dynamic Range Boost Mode. Additionally, the GH6 supports both .CUBE and .VLT formats for V-Log View Assist in real-time to approximate the final look of your deliverable.

There’s a decent number of modes for shooting anamorphic too. For example, you can record open gate with the 4:3 sensor for 5.8K 30p 4:2:0 10-bit and 4.4K 60p 4:2:0 10-bit video. To properly interpret the visual information for stabilization processing, users can select from 1.30x, 1.33x, 1.5x, 1.8x, or 2.0x depending on the lens magnification.

You can also store up to 10 anamorphic lenses for quick swaps and ready-to-view, de-squeezed footage. Images can be de-squeezed in cinescope size. Magnification rate is selectable from 1.30x, 1.33x, 1.5x, 1.8x or 2.0x.

The free-angle 3.0-inch 1.84m-dot LCD screen of the brand new Lumix GH6 tilts toward, enabling high- and low-angle shots, as well as positions in tight corners that would otherwise be extremely difficult to properly frame and focus your camera. In combination, you can always use the 3.68m-dot OLED Live Viewfinder which has a 0.76x-equivalent magnification for bright, realistic eye-level monitoring.

It’s also worth mentioning that the GH6 comes equipped with a dual card slot which provides different options dependent on the bitrate of your shoot. The CFexpress Type B slot will be required to record higher bitrates when shooting in ProRes 422 HQ and 800 Mb/s 4:2:2 10-bit ALL-Intra footage. The SD card slot records bitrates up to 600 Mb/s when using high-performance UHS-II U3 Class 10 SD cards.

As expected, the body of the GH6 is engineered to keep out precipitation and dust even in the most challenging environments. Despite its sealed design, heat dispersal is attained through an electric fan, heat sink, and frame that radiates heat away from the sensor, engine, and memory card.

Other handy features of the GH6 include Wi-Fi 5GHz and Bluetooth v5.0 technology, USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C and HDMI Type-A ports, 3.5mm headphone jack, an additional video record button on the front, dual ring selectors, simultaneous internal and external recording, durable DMW-BLK22 lithium-ion battery, and much more.
