Last Updated:

Diona is a 4-star Cryo Bow character who specialises as a Healer and Shielder hybrid, and is available on the Character Event Wish, Epitome Invocation and Wanderlust Invocation Standard Banners. Keep reading to find out what materials are needed to Ascend Diona, her best builds and an overview of how to use her effectively.

Diona Ascension Stat

All characters in Genshin Impact have a particular stat that levels up alongside their base stats. For Diona, this extra stat is Cryo DMG Bonus. This doesn’t really help Diona since DMG isn’t her strong suit anyway, so … yeah. That’s cool…

Diona Ascension Materials

Once you have obtained Diona and maxed her to Level 20, she can be further levelled up through Ascension. The materials you will need to Ascend Diona are as follows:

Level 20

  • Shivada Jade Sliver x 1
  • Calla Lily x 3
  • Firm Arrowhead x 3

Level 40

  • Shivada Jade Fragment x 3
  • Hoarfrost Core x 2
  • Calla Lily x 10
  • Firm Arrowhead x 15

Level 50

  • Shivada Jade Fragment x 6
  • Hoarfrost Core x 4
  • Calla Lily x 20
  • Sharp Arrowhead x 12

Level 60

  • Shivada Jade Chunk x 3
  • Hoarfrost Core x 8
  • Calla Lily x 30
  • Sharp Arrowhead x 18

Level 70

  • Shivada Jade Chunk x 6
  • Hoarfrost Core x 12
  • Calla Lily x 45
  • Weathered Arrowhead x 12

Level 80

  • Shivada Jade Gemstone x 6
  • Hoarfrost Core x 20
  • Calla Lily x 60
  • Weathered Arrowhead x 24

Shivada Jade Slivers, Fragments, Chunks and Gemstones can be obtained by defeating the Cryo Regisvine, located in Mondstadt, and the Cryo Hypostasis, located in Dragonspine.

Hoarfrost Cores can be obtained by defeating the Cryo Regisvine, located in Mondstadt.

Calla Lilies can be found growing near water in Mondstadt. They grow in abundance in Springvale, Dadaupa Gorge and near Dawn Winery.

Firm Arrowhead, Sharp Arrowhead and Weathered Arrowhead can be obtained by defeating Ranged Hilichurls, which can be found all over Teyvat.

Diona Talent Materials

In order to make Diona stronger, you’ll need to upgrade her talents. The materials you will need are as follows:

  • Firm Arrowhead
  • Sharp Arrowhead
  • Weathered Arrowhead
  • Teachings of Freedom
  • Guide to Freedom
  • Philosophies of Freedom
  • Shard Of A Foul Legacy

The Teachings, Guide and Philosophies of Freedom can be obtained by completing the Domain of Mastery: Frosted Altar every Monday, Thursday and Sunday. Meanwhile, the Shard Of A Foul Legacy is a potential drop from the Weekly Childe Boss.

Diona Best Weapons

Since Diona doesn’t focus on dealing DMG, she doesn’t have many weapon options. The weapons she can make use of, however, benefit her nicely.

While it’s a little overkill on her, Diona can make use of Elegy For The End. She benefits from its high Energy Recharge substat, although she generally struggles to proc its passive.

Her best in slot is generally the Favonius Warbow. It’s very reliable with its high Energy Recharge, and its passive which can give her or another character (you have to switch to them quickly after Diona deals a CRIT hit) particles. The Favonius Warbow is especially good when at max Refinement, as your CRIT hits are guaranteed to generate these particles. If you don’t have a Favonius Warbow, Sacrificial Bow also works well on her thanks to its high Energy Recharge, and its passive which can reset your Skill’s cooldown.

Diona Best Artifacts

Diona benefits from a couple of different Artifact sets, and the one you’ll go for depends on a few things. If you don’t have a dedicated 4-Piece Nobless Oblige on your team, this is a set you can use on Diona. While the 2-Piece passive doesn’t do too much for her, the 4-Piece passive is highly beneficial as it increases all party members’ ATK by 20% for 12s. This is great, especially if you switch into a Burst DPS since the buff only lasts for a short time.

If you already have a designated Noblesse Oblige user, or prefer to focus on her heals and shields, 2-Piece Tenacity of the Millelith with 2-Piece Maiden Beloved / Ocean-Hued Clam is your other choice. This will give her more HP% for her heals and shields to scale off of, as well as additional Healing Bonus for her heals.

For low-level players, 4-Piece Instructor works well until you’re able to get higher level Artifacts.

For your Artifact main stats, you will want to run:

  • HP% / Energy Recharge Sands
  • HP% Goblet
  • HP% / Healing Bonus / CRIT Rate Circlet

In terms of Artifact substats, you’ll want to focus on HP%, Flat HP, Energy Recharge, and CRIT Rate if your Diona uses a Favonius Warbow and doesn’t have a CRIT Rate Circlet.

How to Use Diona

Her Elemental Skill, Icy Paws, fires an Icy Paw that deals Cryo DMG to opponents and forms a shield on hit. The shield’s DMG absorption scales based on Diona’s Max HP, and its duration scales off the number of Icy Paws that hit their target. On press, she rapidly fires off two Icy Paws. On hold, she dashes back quickly before firing five Icy Paws. The shield created by a Hold attack will gain a 75% DMG absorption Bonus. The shield has a 250% Cryo DMG Absorption Bonus, and will cause your active character to become affected by Cryo at the point of formation for a short duration.

Her Elemental Burst, Signature Mix, tosses out a special cold brew that deals AoE Cryo DMG and creates a Drunken Mist in an AoE. The Drunken Mist deals continuous Cryo DMG to opponents within the AoE and continuously regenerates the HP of characters within the AoE. The HP regeneration scales based on Diona’s Max HP.

Diona is a versatile character thanks to having a lot of utility as both a healer and shielder. She’s especially useful on a team with a Cryo Main or Sub-DPS, such as a Melt or Freeze team, as she’ll be able to fulfil a healer and shielder role in one. She’ll also enable Cryo Resonance which will increase the CRIT Rate of attacks that hit an opponent affected by Cryo or an opponent that is Frozen; this gives you more flexibility with your other two team slots in these particular compositions. She’ll also act as a Cryo battery, enabling your Cryo DPS to charge their Burst up faster.

For example, “Morgana” is a popular Permafreeze team comp consisting of Ganyu, Mona, Venti and Diona. In this particular comp, Diona acts as a healer and shielder, as well as a Cryo Resonance enabler and a Cryo battery.

She can also work very well on a Physical team with Eula, Rosaria or Kaeya as Main DPS, since she’ll be able to enable Cryo Resonance for the CRIT Rate boost. She will also act as a Cryo battery to generate particles and get their Bursts charged up faster. On the other hand, she can work on a Physical / Superconduct team with a Cryo Sub-DPS for the same reasons.
