Film shooters rejoice, Kodak has some good news for you. Kodak Moments (the division of Kodak Alaris) has resurrected Kodak Professional Gold 200 in 120mm. If you’re looking into upgrading to medium format, this will be a great place to start. But also, it’s great if you’re looking to cut back on the film cost as it will be a more affordable option than other 120mm color film rolls from Kodak.
Kodak Professional Gold is, oh the irony, not considered a professional film. Kodak describes it as an “affordable, entry-level color film,” but of course, that doesn’t mean pro photographers can’t use it. It features warm saturated color, fine grain, and high sharpness, and you can use it for daylight and flash photography.
Speaking of affordability, it’s one of the reasons for this film’s popularity (but not the only one). As DPReview notes, Kodak Gold 200 in 120 format is expected to be about 25% cheaper than Kodak Portra 160. It will be available to buy at film retailers in 5-roll “Pro Packs.”

The 35mm version of Kodak Gold 200 has been around for a long time and it’s been very popular. No wonder, considering that it gives you a great price-quality ratio. However, you may not know that this is the second shot for the 120mm version. It was discontinued back in 1997, and now it’s found a new life. Hopefully, it’s here to stay.
