The last original Pokémon games, Sword and Shield, had two DLC packs; The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra. They not only expanded upon the story, but also introduced new Pokémon with each DLC. So of course, despite the fact that it has only been out since January 28th, 2022, we already want to know if Pokémon Legends: Arceus will have its own Expansion Pack.
Will there be a Pokémon Legends: Arceus DLC Expansion Pass?
It’s very likely that there will be at least one DLC for Pokémon Legends: Arceus. The reason for thinking this is that Pokémon Sword and Shield, the most recent original Pokémon games before Arceus, did have their own Expansion Pass. Of course we don’t know Arceus will follow suit for sure, but hopefully we won’t have to wait too long to find out, as the Sword and Shield DLCs were announced just two months after its initial release.
What could be in a Pokémon Legends: Arceus DLC?
There seem to be a lot of holes in the story that have yet to be filled. Could this be an intentional decision, leaving something for either a DLC or another Pokémon Legends game? We’re certainly hoping that a Pokémon Legends: Arceus DLC would explore in more detail the link between Hisui and Sinnoh, the Hisuian people and their Sinnoh descendants, and that connection between Galaxy Team and Team Galactic.
Hisuian ancestry
Game Freak and The Pokémon Company have certainly left seemingly intentional breadcrumbs regarding the link between certain NPCs. On the official Legends: Arceus website, the ancestral link between Galaxy Team leader Commander Kamado and Diamond and Pearl’s professor Rowan is confirmed. At the same time, the website states that “it seems that there are other people in this game who might also be ancestors to familiar faces you may know.” This seems like a very deliberate statement, and perhaps a hint as to where the Legends story may take us in the future.
Why not take a look at our guide to every character in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and see if there are any that you think bear a resemblance to characters from the Sinnoh region.
Galaxy Team vs Team Galactic
While we know for a fact that Hisui is the Sinnoh region in a time long since forgotten about, there are other potential links between the two regions that haven’t yet been confirmed. One of the more interesting is the possible connection between the Galaxy Expedition Team and Diamond and Pearl’s Team Galactic.
Looking at the names, we can of course see a similarity between the two in English. However, in Japanese, the two are one and the same. Both are called Ginga-dan – with “Ginga” translating to “Galaxy”. There is also an undeniable likeness between the logos of both teams, as well, two similarly-shaped designs with yellow initials on a black background.
With the admirable Galaxy Team pivotal to the protagonist’s story in Arceus, and Team Galactic acting as Diamond and Pearl’s villainous group, there could be a very interesting story if the two are somehow linked. Who took the wrong path and branched away from Galaxy Team to form Team Galactic? My odds are on Cyllene given her angry expression and no-nonsense personality. Oh, and her suspicious likeness in name and appearance to none other than Cyrus, the boss of Team Galactic.
What do you want to see from a Pokémon Legends: Arceus DLC? Let us know where you think the story could go next!
