It’s been a while since we’ve seen a tweak in the formula for the Pokemon franchise with games essentially following the same process for game progression beginning to end. However, with Pokemon Legends: Arceus, it is aiming to give the IP a breath of fresh air, moving away from the usual Elite Four end game to a more open world, almost Breath of the Wild-esque adventure focusing on catching Pokemon to create an all-new Pokedex.
Typically, Pokemon games have extremely limited multiplayer components with online battling and trading being the main possibilities. While this makes sense for the more single-player adventures these games are known for, with Legends: Arceus, it opens up more potential for multiplayer to become a real possibility.
Below, we’ll take you through everything we know about the multiplayer aspect of Pokemon Legends: Arceus so you can find out for yourself whether you’ll be experiencing the title with your fellow Pokemon Trainers. Information, however, is a little limited at the moment as the game hasn’t been released yet and with Nintendo being a little hush-hush on all the title’s features, it makes it that much harder.
Will Pokemon Legends: Arceus have multiplayer?
According to the official listing for the game on Nintendo’s website, Pokemon Legends: Arceus will in fact have multiplayer. This is, however, limited to two players only so no going around the Hisui region MMO style, bumping into trainers from around the world.
Being limited to two players only, this may mean that it could be capped at battling and trading, which would be unfortunate as these features have been around for so long and now would be the perfect time to switch things up. It also means no double battling which is a little unfortunate but as we don’t know the game’s full format it may make complete sense
On the flip side, it also doesn’t state that there won’t be any form of co-op so there’s no saying that you won’t be able to take an online friend along for the ride in Hisui and complete some all-important tasks for the village.
All we can do now is wait for Pokemon Legends: Arceus to drop on January 28th and then we can know for sure the extent of what multiplayer components will be available!
