WaterBear - Tiny Lens and Screen Cleaning Tool Now on Kickstarter

WaterBear is a tiny cleaning patch from KUVRD. Made out of nano synthetic material, it’s supposedly more effective than a microfiber cloth and thanks to its sticky backside, it can be stored on any surface and not take up any space. The washable and reusable cleansing patches named WaterBear are now available in kits on Kickstarter.

Do you remember KUVRD – the universal stretchable rubber lens cap, a very successful Kickstarter campaign back in 2017? Well, its creators now launched a new crowdfunding campaign which is seemingly doing just as well. In the spotlight of the new Kickstarter campaign from KUVRD is a simple product – a tiny cleaning patch for all kinds of glass surfaces. Let’s take a look at the WaterBear cleaning tool.

WaterBear cleaning tool is basically a tiny cloth (or patch) that has a sticky backside and can therefore be stored on almost any surface when not in use. The patches have been designed to clean glass surfaces such as lenses, screens, monitors, or glasses. There are two sizes of WaterBear pads:

  • Big “WaterBear” patch
  • Small “X” patch

They are, however, only being sold in sets. Each set contains two big patches and four small ones. I could not find the exact dimensions of these patches, but they are really small. In fact, the smaller “X” patch only fits on a tip of a finger.

The creators claim that the WaterBear pads are washable and reusable. The pad should be ready to use again after simply rinsing it with warm water and air drying to restore sticky texture and cleaning abilities. According to the company, WaterBear is longer lasting than standard microfiber cloths and more effective than traditional cleaning pens.

As KUVRD also states, the pads are made out of a soft chamois, nano-carbon-active polyamide synthetic tri-blend material with omnidirectional fiber loops. Thanks to this material, the patches should be able to clean any glass surface effectively and without scratching. The sticky backside is a silicone adhesive gel.

Price and availability

According to KUVRD, the WaterBear cleaning tool is production-ready and shipping is supposed to start in July 2022. There are multiple rewards on Kickstarter depending on how many sets of WaterBear patches you want to get. The reward with one set (2x big “WaterBear” patch and 4x small “X” patch) is gone already, but you can still get one of the other rewards with multiple sets:

  • two sets for $25 (retail price is planned to be $45)
  • four sets for $35 (retail price is planned to be $75)
  • nine sets for $65 (retail price is planned to be $125)

You can head over to their campaign page here and check it out.

Additionally, KUVRD will send out an extra free set with every reward to everyone who fills out the survey they send after the pledge, follow them on Kickstarter, share the campaign on social media, and comment on the campaign.

The shipping is NOT included in the price, and it is estimated to cost anywhere between $3 and $15 depending on where you live. According to KUVRD, you will be charged for the shipping after the campaign ends.

We are saying this at the end of every crowdfunding-related article: Please be aware of the risks when backing a project on a crowdfunding platform. Please read the platform’s terms of use and keep in mind that there can be significant delays when delivering the product. Some projects even don’t get delivered at all.
