Soulslikes have become a gaming phenomenon over the past decade, and we’ve got to see some really interesting takes on the genre. So far, no one has thought about taking the genre to revolutionary Paris. Enter Steelrising, a soulslike set during an alternate take on the revolution of 1489 where the French have built clockwork robots.

Steelrising Release Date
Steelrising was officially announced during The Summer of Gaming 2021 event with a slick teaser trailer showing 15th century Paris in ruins, occupied by clockwork automatons. At the time, no release date, or even release window, was hinted at.
We do finally have a launch window for the title, with the game set to hit digital store shelves during June of 2022. We don’t know exactly when that’ll be, but with the game only 4 or 5 months away, it’s likely that we won’t have to wait too long to find out.
Steelrising Trailer
After the first trailer, we have seen slightly more of the gameplay of Steelrising, partially thanks to a playtest. For want of a better way of putting it, the game is very Dark Souls. Combat seems like it’s very deliberate and mostly slow-paced, though because your character is an automaton themselves, there are some flashy moments here and there.
The setting is probably one of the most interesting parts of the game. It has a certain edge of Bloodborne’s world design to it, but obviously with a slightly different architectural influence behind it. Either way, it’s going to be something that appeals to alternate history buffs.
