I ordered this control a day ago and arrived today rather quickly so I’m rather pleased with that but as for the controller itself well it’s what you expect a GameCube controller nothing too special (besides the awesome smash logo on it) it plays well on Gamecube I tested it on Luigi’s Mansion, Metroid Prime, and a few other games just to list a few. I’m aware that this was made only for smash ultimate but I had to try out some other switch games that worked for this controller like Mario Kart 8 deluxe and well to my surprise it worked like a champ I didn’t have control stick problems at all. I’m not 100% about some other games but just to list some others beside Mario Kart I tried out Sonic mania, Rocket league, and Bloodstain (the 8 bit version) once again it worked like a champ. Overall I really like the design of the Smash ball and how it mixes so well with the black it functions are on point and really responsive. Plus its price to me beat the other two GameCube controllers before it (being the WIi u GC controllers) so if you never owned a GC controller but want one for Smash Ulitmate I would recommend buying this!

I don’t play Smash Bros Melee or Smash for WiiU religiously like some of the reviewers here.I’m not critiquing each and every individual button press and wondering how light or heavy the trigger pulls are.I bought it so I could have a good and new GameCube controller for when Smash Ultimate comes out and so I could play the game *casually*.And on the topic, good and new is a simple way to put my thoughts on it. It’s a solid build and just as high quality as how an official Nintendo product should be.The wire is long and durable. The plug end fits snugly in my third-party adapter. The controller gets identified immediately after plugging it in and pressing the A button. The cardboard packaging is clean and simple, albeit a tad bit difficult to open without tearing the box itself (I wanted to try to keep it nice and neat). Inside, the controller is wrapped in a thick plastic baggie inside of a cardboard frame, no foam cushions or anything.I did not have any problems with input lag or drifting thumbsticks.I did not have any problems with chipped paint or flimsy buttons/triggers.I did not have any problems with weak or broken cables. The buttons are clean and easy to press. The thumbsticks are grippy and responsive. The controller’s grainy-textured material feels comfortable to hold, but just try not to get any Cheeto fingers all over it for everyone’s sake.Overall: if you’re looking for a new official GameCube controller that doesn’t cost several hundred dollars, then I highly suggests jumping on this. Who knows if it’s gonna be a limited run or not.P.S. This is my own individual experience. It may differ from person to person.

Probably the weirdest and yet most nostalgic thing I’ve bought in a long time. I would have never thought Nintendo would be manufacturing GC controllers again in 2018. But anyhow, yeah it functions exactly as you’d expect. The shell is bit courser than the original controller, but still feels pretty good. The controller is slightly lighter than the original as well. A tear-down reveals a strikingly similar PCB design and layout. I would have expected Nintendo to make more cost-savings in the design but nearly every component and plastic mold is in the same exact place on the PCB as the original. The original PCB was made by Mitsumi, but Nintendo either switched to a different supplier or Mitsumi no longer labels their PCBs anymore because there’s no silkscreen manufacturer label on the PCB in the new model. The biggest cost-saving I found was the joystick modules which are now entirely plastic instead of having metal frames like the original. I don’t know how this will hold up in the long-run since it’s only the frame, but time will tell. Besides that super minor thing, everything is as expected!

Fast inputs, long chord, good quality, feels and looks great. My original concern with this controller was that the pre-order date said it would arrive on Christmas, over two weeks after the release of Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Fortunately, it arrived yesterday, giving me time to get used to the feel of the controller before December 7th. When comparing it side by side to the official controller that came with my Gamecube, the only difference that I can feel is the plastic it’s made with. Some of the reviews for this controller have said that the plastic feels cheaper but I personally prefer the new material. The plastic on this controller feels a lot less likely to gather grease or marks after long play sessions. Many of the 1-2 star reviews have very different issues with their controllers. Some are complaining about slow inputs, low quality triggers, and some people are having trouble with getting it to work on emulators. I’ve had none of these problems. Maybe I just got lucky with the one I was shipped but overall, I’m very satisfied with it.

Ok so when I first got this controller I was hoping to the gods that my controller was good and had no drift like others were talking about and when I plugged it in to my wii and tested out how good it was my heart SANK. It was literally worse than my old controller!I didn’t want to give up tho so I double checked with dolphin emu and I found out it was actually perfect! Even my old one had no drift but the circle it made wasn’t as perfect as the New Ultimate Controller. (I wasn’t able to check for drift in the dolphin menus itself so I hope at least the f-zero gx test was good enough)I did check on melee if my controller had snapback and yes it does but it doesn’t really matter because I believe snapback is more important for serious melee players.Remember to check the controller on multiple platforms and also try resetting the controller by pressing [Y, X, START] together so you know for certain if your controller has drift or not.Great controller feel overall and will feel much better when I break into the controller. The triggers do feel a little weird and it could be because of the missing trigger plugs but other than that the buttons feel great along with the stick! See you all on December 7th!!

I received my controller on launch, and I am very impressed with the quality. I had previously been using Mario Retro’s reproduction controllers, and the difference is night and day. MR’s controllers feel hollow, the sticks have barely any grip, and the triggers make contact with the controller shell making an uneven pull. This official controller feels exactly how I remember it feeling when I got my GameCube about a decade ago. Good weight without feeling heavy, grippy sticks, nice feeling buttons that do not hitch up or grind. I have seen a few other people with some weirdly calibrated sticks, but either they had their sticks tilted as they plugged them in and turned their console on, or they have a very uncommon defect. I can report that I have no weird stick drift or uncalibrated sticks AT ALL. Yet another top quality accessory from Nintendo.

Comment to other reviewers:I maybe wrong but, I’m pretty sure the gamecube, wii, wii u, and switch console center the joysticks to it’s placement when you plug it in, which is why if you plug it in while the joystick is tilted it centers it to that and the neutral position now moves everything. All that to say the fact that the joystick is off centered when you test it on PC (which it wasn’t designed for) doesn’t really equal bad game play when you actually use it on console as the system “calibrates” it.Plus, isn’t that the whole reason for the calibrate feature on PC?Even my OG gamecube controllers also aren’t centered on PC but to be honest that might be because they are over 17 years oldShort Review:Feels great, different plastic though. Cable is longer. Joystick is a little stiffer which errrr… but might just be because it’s brand new.

If you liked the original gamecube controller then you’ll like this, it’s pretty much the same thing.

I had been WAITING for what felt like forever to buy a Smash 4 Gamecube controller, and the price of the controller was just not going down ($145.00 at the time of writing for the white Japan-exclusive). I could not justify spending that sum of money on a device that should only cost $25.00 (which it did, at one time, and I bought one for my brother in June of 2016).So when Nintendo announced they were going to be selling Smash Bros Ultimate Gamecube controllers, I immediately navigated to Amazon.com and sought it out, praying the price wasn’t outrageous. Thirty bucks! I smashed that 1-click-buy button faster than OJ Simpson’s white Bronco. It came in the mail today and felt great in my hands. Yes, it is made with cheaper materials than the OG Gamecube controllers, and yes, it has a matte finish (which I really enjoy nonetheless), but it performs as you’d expect a brand new Nintendo Gamecube controller to perform—flawlessly! I’ve been on this controller since Melee was released in 2001, and let me tell you, go with the Nintendo GC controllers, there are no rivals. It’s not your Xbox One Elite, or your Dualshock 4—it’s an OG Gamecube controller, fresh from a Chinese factory and so ready to get some Smash on!

I’ve been hearing a lot about how poorly designed these controllers are and issues with stick drift. Because of this, I was very hesitant to buy this controller. But with Smash Bros. Ultimate coming out in just days, I caved in and got it anyways. To my surprise, I haven’t had any of the problems people have been mentioning. Tried it out with Smash Bros. Wii U and had no issues. There is one thing though and that is that the buttons aren’t as ‘clicky’ as the controllers that were made for Smash Bros. Wii U. For me, it’s not a big deal as long as it doesn’t hinder my performance, which it doesn’t. My inputs come out flawlessly with this controller. So far, I’m very happy with this purchase and can’t wait to use it as my main controller for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
