I have two Wyze Cameras, one facing inside and one facing outside, and I’m very happy with how well they work. For the price (around $20 before tax and shipping), they really provide a great value. I have friends who use more expensive smart home cameras, and some of those have better apps and image quality, but they cost hundreds more. The image quality on these cameras is great for what I need. I have a small home with one main entrance, and this Wyze camera has a wide enough angle that I can see the front door and important windows all in one frame. The motion and sound detection alerts are very accurate, it always notifies me when it sees or hears something. For the price, the image quality is great. I have one facing outside, and it’s a bit hard to read license plates (From about 30 feet away from the camera), but it is looking through a window, so I don’t blame the camera. On that note, the night vision does not work through glass, so if you want to monitor outside your home at night, you have to put the camera outside, or keep your flood light on (this is true for all infrared night vision cameras, it’s not Wyze’s fault so I didn’t take any stars off for this). These cameras were easy to mount with the included materials. They come with a metal disc that you can stick to walls/furniture, and then the camera attaches magnetically, and it’s very secure. There are a few downsides that might be dealbreakers for some people.1. No Geofencing: This camera will not enable/disable alerts according to your phone’s GPS. So it won’t automatically turn off when you get home. That can get annoying, because it will constantly send notifications to your phone that it sees motion/hears sound when you or someone else is home. You can set schedules for when you want the alerts to turn off and not bother you, but if you have a variable schedule like me (not always going/coming at the same time), then you have to manually enable/disable notifications. I use IFTTT as a workaround (created an applet that turns the camera notifications on when I leave and off when I come home), but that may be more work than some people want to put in.2. The sound quality is pretty terrible on the microphones. When I’m watching the live feed or an alert video, it’s very difficult to make out sounds (was that a branch falling on the roof, or someone banging on the door? Honestly can’t tell the difference). This doesn’t bother me because I’m mostly wanting to monitor the video feed, but if you are hoping you’ll be able to hear people at your front door, look elsewhere. Same goes for the talking feature (you can speak through your phone and the camera’s speaker will relay your voice). The speaker inside the camera is awful, you can’t use this as a sort of home intercom. One particular quirk, when I bought these cameras I had an iPhone. The iPhone app works pretty well, it sometimes was buggy and had to reconnect to the cameras a few times before I could view the live video feed, but it worked well enough. I just switched to an Android phone, and the Android app is WAY BETTER! It’s so much faster, it connects reliably every time, and just works much more smoothly. So if you have an iPhone and laggy apps bother you, this might not be the best option. Also, I do not use Alexa so I have not tried that integration, this camera does not integrate with Google Assistant (but Wyze says that is coming).TL;DR:Buy this if you want a cheap video camera to monitor your home, integrate with Alexa, and you don’t mind the sub-par speaker and microphone in the camera.Don’t buy this if: you want to record audio along with video, or want geofencing built into the camera’s app, or if you want a camera for outside use.

I have to say I was skeptical about a camera in this price range… but I am happy to say that this is one time where the quality and functionality of a product excels far beyond its price point. I have both the Wyze Cam and the Wyze Cam Pan. In fact, I have several now and plan to purchase several more. These cameras are incredible! If you read nothing more than this, I recommend them 100%, love their function and quality, and absolutely will buy more of these Wyze Cams! Worth every dime… and then some!I have used other more expensive cameras and have honestly NOT achieved the same quality of results on many fronts… The Wyze Cam has, thus far, beat them all and is my current favorite! I have the $230 Nest Cam that I use to watch the interior living area of my home… While the Nest cam has a great picture, the Wyze Cam is arguably BETTER! When compared side-by-side, the Wyze Cam is not only clearer and sharper (admittedly by a slim margin), it’s more reliable and provides faster frame-rates. My Nest Cam is a great camera, don’t get me wrong, but it disconnects often and the video is very often choppy. When I compare the two, I have to honestly say that my Wyze Cam has far les lag, better frame-rates, and remains connected far more consistently. It was also easier to setup than the Nest Cam.The Wyze Cam’s audio is fair. The positive is that it is clear and crisp… Compared to my Nest Cam, I would say the Wyze Cam is slightly louder and more clear; Both when transmitting audio and receiving it. It’s not perfect. It does drop out a bit at times when communicating, but I’ve found it easier to use with less issues than my more-expensive Nest camera. Wyze Cam for the win here, but just barely.Night vision quality is surprisingly beautiful! Clear, crisp and bright! No exaggeration. Excellent quality video! Compared to my Nest Cam, they both are about the same… but I think I have to give the edge to Wyze Cam (for sharpness of image and better contrast).I also love that Wyze Cam is compatible to IFTTT, Tiny Cam PRO, and Alexa. My Echo Show, Spot and FireTV devices all pull up the Wyze Cam images quickly. We had been looking at upgrading our fire alarms to smart alarms, but that is an expensive option… Wyze Cam saves the day a bit here because it can listen for both fire alarm and carbon monoxide alarms and then send a push notification to your phone when they go off! Too cool! Yeah, it’s not as robust as the full solutions a smart alarm provides but it’s completely unexpected from a camera like this and an awesome bonus benefit! Now, even though we don’t have smart fire alarms, Wyze Cam is picking up the slack here and giving us a free smart option as a bonus. LOVE IT! It works too!The motion tracking and push notify alerts work well also. Currently, I use the cams for security solutions and to make sure my 85 year old mom with Dementia stays safe at night and during the day. I have the motion tracking set to send me an alert when she’s up at night, so that I can make sure she safely gets to the bathroom and back to bed. The sound tracking is also a great feature and has alerted me when mom needed help in her room and I would not have otherwise heard her. My wife and I also use the app in a “baby monitor” function that works perfectly.Using the Tiny Cam PRO app, we can easily pull up ALL of our cameras on the bedroom or living room TV to see what’s happening around the house and yard, and even add a little picture-in-picture view on the screen, if we need to watch the front door for the pizza guy while we watch our movie. This is exactly the kind of cool stuff I was hoping a camera solution would provide for us and this one does it and doesn’t break the bank.I am so pleased with the options and functionality of this camera. It’s hard to believe it costs no more than $30.Are there any negatives? Well, I can’t say there’s much of anything to complain about at this price point. I have a couple of Zmodo cameras that have decent image quality, but they only work with their proprietary app, they are NOT compatible with Alexa or Tiny Cam PRO and they can’t be detected on my router which make it difficult to find work arounds to make them work with other programs, and they have no sound! They also require purchase of a cloud subscription if you want to use them as legitimate security cameras. They also disconnect a lot… I also paid double for them what I paid for the Wyze Cam, so it’s a no-brainer… Wyze Cam beats just about every camera I’ve tried thus far.I do wish they had an outdoor cam, BUT… I’ve actually been using these outside WITH ZERO ISSUES! I went on Amazon and purchased weatherproof encasements for the cameras, added a dab of silicon to the plugin port on the back to keep the water out, and mounted the cams. They work AWESOME! Super clear images and fantastic night vision quality! I’ve used both the Wyze Cam and the Wyze Cam Pan OUTSIDE with virtually no problems…Yep, I said virtually no problems… Actually, it’s not fair to call them “problems” considering these cameras aren’t technically intended for outdoors at all, but I did notice a few things…One, the motion tracking on the Wyze Cam Pan is a bit too sensitive, even when dialed down on the app. It wants to follow everything (i.e. grass moving in the wind, a bug flying by, or when inside it picks up the ceiling fan moving and the dog running around, etc.). You can setup zones for the camera to rotate and auto pan to, which is very cool, but with motion tracking on, it tends to screw up the routine a bit, sometimes leaving the cam to stair at a wall for a bit. These are slight annoyances. On the positive side, the sensitivity of motion tracking is also a plus! It most certainly will catch the slightest movement…. and, when using IFTTT the camera doubles as a motion sensor. Wait… I’m supposed to be talking about negatives. The second negative (slight negative) is the sound of the rotation motor on the Wyze Cam Pan. It’s not annoyingly loud in the room, but it can be heard rather loudly when remotely viewing the camera feed or playing back a recording. Not a deal-breaker at all for me… just something that I noticed. Thus far I haven’t really noticed any clouding up of the lens or anything like that (when using outdoors), but winter isn’t quite yet upon us, so we’ll see how it fairs… We have had a couple of rain pours and wind storms and the camera is doing just fine. The night vision LED’s are not too noticeable when looking at the camera, but they are very bright towards their intended function; to light up the room or area. They work splendidly! But, I have noticed that if the camera is fixed next to objects that are close in range (especially outside like the overhand of a roof), there tends to be reflection of the light emitting from the IR LEDs in the dark and can tend to wash out the image a bit when night vision is engaged. The picture quality without the night vision is actually very good on its own as long as there are some decent external light sources around, such as porch lights and such. I actually run the Pan camera in the back yard at night without night-vision because the image is usually more visible without the night-vision reflection issues. In the house, however, there are no issues with night vision that I’ve noticed. We use a Wyze Cam mounted a couple of feet above our front door and that way can watch anyone walking up to the door AND can two-way chat with them!!! Considering alternative options like The Ring cost upwards of $200 and $300, this is just crazy to achieve basically the same thing for $25 bucks!TOTALLY HAPPY with this product and highly recommend it. Yes, there are other cameras that have even better quality image and, yes, you pay for that too. Yes, there are other camera systems that provide a more stable, reliable connection and, again, you’re gonna pay for those benefits as well. But, my goodness, when a camera costs only about $25 to $35 bucks with all the amazing features these cameras offer, it’s nearly impossible to complain about anything. They enabled me to setup a virtually complete security camera solution for my entire house (as well as a great monitor solution for my elderly parent) and a communication device that enables me to drop-in and chat with anyone in any room of the house (including my pets) while away from home. So cool and I did it all without having to shell out hundreds of dollars, complicated setup and laying cables everywhere. If you’re on the fence about whether or not to try one of these cams, just get it! You can’t lose for the price! You will be happy… And the quality is nothing to sniff at. These are so surprisingly fantastic that they give my $230 Nest security cam a run for it’s money! They work with popular devices like Alexa, IFTTT, TinyCam Pro and the IP addresses are easily view-able from your home network solution so you may be able to get them to work with other apps not mentioned here. These are easy to work with all the way… and the company keeps the firmware updated and running perfectly. I also think they are probably far more secure than a lot of the other Chinese cheapo cams out there that virtually require you to stay connected to a Chinese cloud server somewhere. With the Wyze cam, you can put in an SD card and use it the same as a cloud system, but it’s local and secure. They’re also based out of Seattle, WA, and the free cloud service option that includes 14 days of limited recording uses Amazon’s AWS servers. The app could do with some upgrades. I wish it had different mult-view, maybe some widgets, and I wish it had a better TV-formatted solution, but apps like TinyCam PRO ans Amazon’s Alexa and FireTV fills in where the Wyze app lacks a bit for now. It would also be great to select multiple motion detection areas, rather than just one per camera, but it’s not a big deal. Like I said, hard to complain when the cost is this affordable. It does a LOT for the money! Thanks Wyze Cam for an awesome product!!!!!!

Fantastic camera, regardless of the price! We have a half dozen webcams scattered around the house, both inside and outside, that we use for security monitoring when we are away. Over the years I’ve installed cameras from Linksys, Foscam, Insteon and Wansview (NOTE: Foscam, Insteon and Wansview are, for all intents and purposes, the same camera). All of them have gotten the job done, and have cost anywhere from $50-$100 dollars. But after trying out this little camera, I’ll never buy anything else again. At least not for indoor use.PROS:–Incredibly easy setup. You just install the app on your phone, plug the camera in, push a button on the bottom, and then point the camera at a QR code the displays on your phone. Then you are prompted to enter the password for your wifi, and that’s it. It literally takes 1 minute to set up, with no messing around with firewalls, routers, ports, etc. There are voice prompts, played from the speaker on the camera, that guide you through the process. It’s an absolute breeze.–Image quality is very good. It looks to me like 720p HD video. On my network it streams in full motion at a nice high frame rate. There’s none of the jerky low frame rate video that I get from some of my other cameras. Color reproduction is quite good.–The camera includes both a microphone and a speaker, so you can listen in on the location of the camera, and/or speak through the camera. Speaker quality is what you would expect from a speaker that is less than an inch in diameter. But it works! The microphone is FAR better than the microphone on any of the Foscam/Wansview cameras that I’ve used in the past. On those you would have to be shouting in order to be heard. The Wyze camera picks up even faint sounds in the room.–I LOVE the magnetic base! You can stick this thing to any ferrous metal surface, and it stays stuck. At the moment mine is hanging from the bottom of an air duct pipe in my basement. Just go into the app on the phone, tell it to invert the image, and you are all set! It really is slick, and is something that more camera manufacturers should do.–The motiion detection is simple and reliable. It can be tuned from highly sensitive (triggerrs when my cat walks across the basement floor) to low sensitivity (my wife would have to walk in front of it). Upon triggering, a ~10 second video is captured and uploaded to the cloud. An optional push notification is sent to your phone. And you can go into the app and watch the recording.–Night vision mode is decent, but not outstanding. There is a single IR LED for low light illumination. They state a night vision range of “up to 30 feet”. That’s pushing it. But 15-20 feet seems to be no problem at all. It certainly covers a room with no problem.–The price. How can you beat a $20 camera that simply exceeds every expectation that I had? After reading about this camera online, and reading some reviews, I decided to order one on the spur of the moment just to test it out. Yeah, at this price point you really have no reason NOT to buy one as an impulse purchase. I received mine in 2 days. But the day after ordering, they went on 1-2 month back order. Apparently they are as popular as they deserve to be. Despite the backorder, I’ll be placing an order for a couple more before the end of the day.CONS–None that are really noteable.–The app doesn’t always update the list of recorded motion detection video clips. If you close the app, and reopen it, they show up in the list. But that’s software, and will undoubtedly be updated in the very near future. –UPDATE– This was fixed quickly. The software continues to evolve and is very solid at this point (1/2019).–Unlike many of the other cameras in the house, this one doesn’t support pan/tilt. But for the price, who cares? The Wyze has a nice wide field of view. They are stackable. So if you spend $60 you can stack three of them and have a full 360 degree view for less then the price of one camera that does pan/tilt. And the Wyze will have better image quality–No idea what its environmental tolerances are. I know that it’s not weatherproof. But if I put one in my unheated garage, in upstate NY, is it going to survive the cold? Who knows? But heck, for $20 it might be worth just trying it to see what happens! My wife was skeptical when I told her that I’d ordered a $20 high def camera as a candidate to replace some of the other cameras that we have in the house. But 20 minutes after plugging it in, configuring it, and playing with it, she said “WE NEED MORE OF THESE!!!”So, in summary, I just can’t recommend this camera highly enough. I know my web cams. I’ve worked with, and owned, a lot of them over the years. I’m an experienced IT professional who is constantly tinkering with new technology. I’m not a casual user. And this is now my favorite web-enabled camera. Ignore the low price. It has NO correlation to the quality of the product. Just buy one.–UPDATE– 1/2019 — I have replaced all of my interior webcams with Wyze, and have had zero problems. These things continue to be a fantastic deal.

Great little camera with just a few caveats. Video is great, sound is great, price is amazing. Software is good, it could be better. I find that the motion detection is a little intense and triggers a bit too often, even at low sensitivity. Saved videos also include sound although I’d rather it didn’t and as of right now this cannot be disabled.I love love love that the body is movable and the stand is the way it is, I don’t like that it’s so loose. I have the camera sitting at one of my entryway windows and the blinds tend to have their way with the camera and cable if I’m not super careful. If the “swivel” were a bit more stiff or could be tightened, this would not be the case. Finally, I absolutely love that there’s 14 days of cloud storage included for free. This to me is the driving point of this camera and why it has replaced my Yi Camera 2 as a security cam for my entryway. It also replaced my back yard camera, which was previously a Nest. I tried the Nest as my entryway cam and that only worked with the trial sub I had, it’s useless after the sub is up because I only get static pics or can liveview, which isn’t great for security. The Yi Camera 2 works very, very well but I found that the clips are short, very short. I suspect it might work better with continuous recording, but I didn’t think of that before I switched. The Wyze Cam works perfectly because the clips are longer. Even without the nice feature of human detection, the Wyze Cam is a bit more sensitive at even the lowest setting so it still makes notification of people coming in and going out of the entryway. I can set it to continuously record, which is nice. The Yi may be able to do this, but I need to test it. That was the good. The bad? Well, nothing’s perfect. The software as I mentioned, which is still great as compared to others is a bit lacking vs. the Yi software. There’s no human detection. You do get an added benefit, the Wyze comes with the ability to trigger if there’s a CO or Fire Alarm that goes off, very neat. There’s no way to protect the app currently. The Yi and Nest have PIN and fingerprint protection. If you loan someone your phone to play a game or whatever, they can go right into the app and see what videos are there. Finally, not a huge deal but Yi has a more robust variety of ways to access their devices. You have apps from Android and iOS as well as Windows software. Because of the Windows software, you could technically buy a $100 (or way, way less if used) Intel stick or NUC, etc and set it up as sort of a surveillance/cam station with your Yi Cameras. You can depend on the apps when you’re out and about or in bed and your station when you’re doing some detective-work…there’s nothing like seeing crisp 1080p video of your neighbor letting their dog poop in your yard on your 28″ screen, or witnessing that UPS or Fedex driver throwing your package across your driveway to your garage door, or, well, you get my drift. You can then take this video and do whatever the heck you need to with it from your PC vs. from an app on your phone. That isn’t to say sharing isn’t easy from the app because it really is, so don’t let NOT having a Windows or Mac app dissuade you, I’m just giving you info/ideas, etc.Nest is now off my list in terms of wifi cams to buy. From now on it’s Yi and Wyze, affordable, full featured cameras, not hampered by a cloud sub.Update: A few days later one of the cams has died. Seems a firmware update bricked it. I didn’t do anything silly like unplug it and power to my home was not interrupted. I’ve looked up how to reset it but the directions don’t work. Will have to return the camera if reset continues to fail. Color me disappointed. -1 star until they fix fw/software issues.Update 2: A few days later and the second camera no longer ‘sees’ the microSD. I purchased 2 and will be sending both back at this point. I’m quite disappointed. I guess I’ll just stick with my Yi Cameras until I can test the ver. 2 of these cameras.Update 3: Please keep in mind that this is a mini-review for VERSION 2 of the Wyze camera. It seems to be the only camera Wyze is selling along with the Wyze Pan Cam, but just wanted to make it clear that the previous updates (1 and 2) are for the VERSION 1 model camera. Wyze or Amazon have stuffed the reviews all together for some reason, which is why this is an updated vs. new review. Most of the original review works for Version 2.I finally decided to buy version 2 of the cameras for the main reason that they got Echo Show functionality. All of the competing cameras with this functionality cost more money. So far so good. Both survived an initial FW update and both are using microSD cards fine at the moment. As I have learned with these cameras however, time will tell so my expectations are tempered. Loving the Alexa Show integration. It works perfectly, every time. This version of the software also has some little green boxes that pop up around motion detection. This is nice because now your eyes don’t have to track all over the video to figure out where motion is in the video or why motion detection was triggered. The only thing lacking for me still (and I’m being greedy here) is human detection which would be so great. Yi cameras also have a nice feature in their software where you set how often you want to be alerted, which is also nice but missing from Wyze software. There’s still also no way to lock the software from prying eyes once the phone is unlocked. Again, this isn’t a huge deal for me since the cameras are only recording what’s going on outside my home vs. inside, but it’s a nice little peace-of-mind feature that really should be there. All in all, I just got these cameras and am enjoying them so far. Will see how long these last.I’ve re-added 3 stars. 1 star off for some missing software features that have been around a very long time in competing camera software. Also changed the title of the review.Update 4 (9/24): So far so good. The cameras have gone through updates and are still working. If you read the review of the previous cameras I purchased, you’ll note that they failed after automatic software updates were done. A few features seem to have been added and a few gripes have been alleviated, at least in my case. A trigger for recording sound was added and now, the triggered recording from motion alerts no longer have sound recorded. I have purchased more of these devices, this time to monitor inside my home. Now I can feel better knowing that the recordings won’t include sound/conversations etc. I don’t want to spy on my family, I just want the video to be there without thinking of it, in case we have an intrusion. I’ve stopped arming my system daily and am thinking about getting rid of my security system entirely (or opting for something else, anyway). There are also some things I don’t remember seeing in the original software with the Wyze Cam v1 that are worth mentioning, like being able to choose where you want motion detection to trigger. I’ve noticed there’s an extra option for full screen or a setting to pick where you want detection to trigger. Seems like Wyze is really listening to its customer base. I’m adding a star due to this.Still wanted/missing: 1. PIN or some sort of app lock. 2. Re-trigger Timer (prevention from triggering again too quickly or, have it trigger more often depending on user preference). 3. Smart Notifications (ie: software decides based on user preference whether to notify more or less often). 4. Smart Motion Detection with preferences like human/animal only or human/animal and vehicle, if smart detection is turned off, then all motion is picked up. 5. Option to end/stop recording as soon as motion stops.Update 5 (8/20/2019): Wyze has spoiled me for pretty much most other cameras at this point. The amazing team has added functionality to the app above and beyond my expectations. Of most importance, I’d say is recently added person detection that actually seems to work very well. It is separated software-wise, so you can specifically see persona detected videos vs. motion detected ones (brilliant!). They’ve also added a lot of functionality that wasn’t there initially like grouping, viewing cameras simultaneously, etc. (too many to list). I can tell you right now that unless you’re aiming at say, Netgear’s 300+ Arlo Pro 2 or higher, you’re not going to find a better solution than these little Wyze cams. I think this will be my last update until Wyze releases a new Wyze cam, as there’s not much more I can possibly say. In ending, I highly recommend this product based on quality and value.

I have had this camera for over 4 months now and I think it’s great. If you understand what you are buying, you will not be let down. All of my experiences are purely using the cloud recording, I have not tried a memory card yet. This is a super cheap wifi camera that has a monthly fee for all the good features. Without the monthly fee the camera will be extremely limited and probably not worth having for anything except the live view and maybe using a memory card? The app is pretty good and seems to be getting updated regularly. My phone can quickly connect for live view, or easily look through the last week or two of recordings. The paid features make it super easy to sort through and find only recordings of “people” (ai recognition) instead of watching through all the false triggers.Camera quality itself is what you would expect of the cheapest wifi camera you can find. Everything is clear on a phone until you try to zoom in, then its pretty low quality. You probably can’t recognize a face from more than 10 feet away. The framerate/bitrate is low so anything moving will have motion blur. Night vision is surprisingly good, but suffers from even more motion blur and lack of detail. That all sounds bad, but I only expected this camera to show me a basic image. If something happened you would still be able to tell if it’s someone you know, or have a basic general description and recording of the event. If I wanted to have a super clear mugshot of someone, I would get a 4k IP camera.Motion detection is also surprisingly good. It picks up everything. I had to turn down the sensitivity. It even does a pretty good job of knowing when a “person” is in the video and labels it correctly. You can set the detection zone, but only with a single resize-able four sided area. Recording starts right when the movement begins, with no obvious delay usually.Cloud recording, my favorite part, is pretty seamless. I have only had a handful of problems where I get an error that the video didn’t upload correctly. It has stayed connected to my Wifi, and I’ve only had one experience where I had to power cycle it because it stopped recording. I like that you can just set the camera and forget it, and everything it detects is being uploaded to the cloud. This was my main reason for this type of camera, as I don’t have any standalone storage solution, and wanted protected recordings even if the camera were stolen.Cons:- When the camera switches over to night vision there is an audible click. This might bother some. It does this even if the IR lights are turned off permanently, as there is some type of physical filter used for night vision. You could also completely disable night vision mode manually; but then wouldn’t be able to see much in the dark.- Audio quality. I use this in a window pointing out, so obviously it can’t hear much. But what I have heard from inside the room is pretty terrible and hard to understand.- Cord length. They only give you like a 6 foot cord, severely limiting placement without buying another.- Only having a 4 sided box to choose motion detection area is limited. For example, I cut out the horizon, but id also like to cut out a bush that moves in the wind nearer to the camera, but I can’t.So in summary – In my experience its a great cheap wireless cloud camera. So far it’s been reliable and even if it dies i’d probably still think it was worth 25 bucks. I just ordered another for the other side of my house.

I bought three of these cameras and have had them up for a few days now – just added the micro SD cards Samsung 32GB 95MB/s (U1) MicroSD EVO Select Memory Card with Adapter (MB-ME32GA/AM) and longer micro USB cables Micro USB Charger Cable,YCCTEAM 10ft Long micro usb charging cable and Power Date Cables for Samsung,Tablet, LG, Motorola, blackberry, Android Smartphones (10 ft Black) last night to get them wall-mounted.So far, I have been nothing but impressed. I haven’t had any of the connectivity issues that were reported earlier and video quality has been more than sufficient in all lighting conditions. The app is solid, intuitive, and overall developed very well. I hope that development continues at a rapid pace. There are quite a few features they could implement easily to make the user experience even better.I have sent an email to Wyze support to clarify a few questions I have seen raised, and a few of my own. I will try to post the reply when I receive one. I plan to buy 3 or 4 more when they are back in stock.EDIT: My emailed questions to Wyze Support and the Response received, below. Hope this helps someone! The cameras are pretty great and I have 3 more “pre-ordered”.My email to Wyze —–Questions:From what I’ve read, using ThroughTek for video processing appears to be security concern with IPs in China and Japan. Are there any plans to change this or address how this is or is not a valid concern? What is the max size SD card supported and how much will it hold per 32gb? I assume the video on SD card is a rolling last X number of days or hours?Feature requests:Motion sensing only when I’m not home using GPS or WiFi locationMore windows for notification time period, day of week and times of day for blackoutAbility to pause all cameras or just one, like a privacy modeInterval refreshes on main screenThis one is more difficult, but the ability to store the clips/video on your own server or cloud storage like Google driveReply from Wyze ——Thank you for contacting us, and apologies for the delayed response. We’ve had a huge amount of interest in the WyzeCam and it’s taking us a little longer than usual to respond to emails. Thanks for your patience.1. Our security and server use is being reviewed. Our goal is to keep all information on US servers. I don’t have any kind of eta or schedule to share.2. Thank you for your question, below is some information for you regarding micro SD cards.Q: What size of SD card should I buy?A: The Wyzecam supports the FAT32 file system for SD card. We suggest a 8GB to 32GB Class 10 microSD card depending on your need. A larger size card will not damage your camera, but our product is currently only rated and recommended for 32GB cards.Q: How long can a 8GB or 32GB card last for local recording?A: You can record video on the microSD card for the approximate times based on the quality of video you select.8GB SD 2.6 Days HD .8 Days16GB SD 5.3 Days HD 1.6 Days32GB HD 10.6 days SD 3.2 DaysQ: What brand of MicroSD card should I buy?A: We don’t recommend any specific brands, however, make sure you use a Class 10 type of card for best video recording results.Q: What is the HD/SD FPS (frames per second)?A: Both HD and SD video settings record and playback are 10 FPS.Q: What is the bitrate for HD and SD?A: HD is ~120kb/s, SD is ~60kb/s.We have had people use larger cards with success, but this is not officially supported. We are definitely looking at working on many of your requests. I replaced my single “Withings Home” cam with 3 of these Wyze cams. My Withings Home, at this time 2 years ago, was $149 and the picture quality as well as reliability remained a struggle. After reading many professional and end user reviews over Wyze, I decided that these cams were a great investment. If they didn’t work, I’d simply send them back since my Withings Home still worked. Luckily, so far, no issues.I originally purchased my former Withings Home camera as a way to watch my son sleep in his crib. The unit failed twice while I owned it along with a slew of connectivity issues early on – as well as it constantly asking me to set it up again. The failed camera ended up being the power supply each time, including the setup issues. I was going to expand that system as they’re beautiful looking cameras, but realized that I’d have to shell out a lot more money for cameras I’d already had a rough go with. So I decided to try something different.First of all, the packaging for Wyze was compact and beautiful. These camera packages are small enough to fit into a Christmas stocking as a stocking stuffer, should you be reading this review just before the holidays. The packaging itself was super clean and, quite honestly, very “Apple-like”. The boxes are a clean white, with medium gray text. The space inside the box has little wasted room. It came with the camera, the built in mount already attached, a USB power supply, a micro-USB cord, a metal disk, and some 3M adhesive. These were crazy easy to install. Just setup a Wyze account (pro-tip: do that while you’re awaiting your package to arrive) via your mobile app (iOS or Android). Once that’s ready, plug in the camera to power it on and hold down the setup button. It’ll speak to you when it’s in setup mode. From there, follow the instructions in the app to setup a new camera. It’ll show a QR code on your device to hold in front of the camera. Once the camera captures the QR code, it’ll speak to you and let you know. That’s pretty much it. The only other thing I did was install 32GB microSD cards into the bottom of the camera. I bought Samsung ones (Class 10, 32GB) as they were on sale below even Wyze’s 32GB microSD price. No tools were necessary, what so ever. As I said before, they come with some (creative) mounting hardware. First you get a metal, demagnetized disk and a doughnut shaped piece of 3M tape. Find the best place to install your camera and fix the metal disk to the most ideal surface you want your camera to rest on using the doughnut shaped double-sided tape it came with. This could be either a vertical surface, like a wall, dresser, or something else like a hutch. Or you could fix the disk to the top of something else, like a counter top, shelf, or dresser. The camera itself has a built-in pivotable stand that has a magnet built in. Once you’ve mounted your metal disks, just let the magnet of the camera grab the metal surface and the camera is successfully mounted with no tools needed. The cameras can be manually moved and positioned to serve your needs best.Yes, these are 1080P cameras. By default, they load up as SD (480P). When you open up the camera’s “live stream,” there is a little button above the top left of the picture (iOS app, as of 11/20/2018). If you tap that button that reads “SD,” you’ll get three options: “360p,” “SD,” or “HD”. Once you’ve changed that setting, you’ll be at 1080P. For anyone who’s reading all the reviews, this camera does a lot that people are slamming it for not being able to do. You honestly have to browse around the app to see how deep the functionality goes. One of the features I love is the motion alert settings. I can focus a camera towards my son’s crib and set a custom motion zone around the crib during a certain time frame. For me, that was my son’s usual nap window in the afternoon. What’s nice about that is that other things that ‘could be’ (but shouldn’t be) happening in the bedroom, such as my own nap in the day bed, don’t set off an alert. I can set a zone within the camera’s frame to watch, and it does a great job pushing notifications to my phone when it sees activity. It also can listen for smoke and CO² alarms to push notifications to my phone. I luckily haven’t needed that feature yet, but I’m excited that my dumb environmental detectors just received some smart assistance …especially at this price point. The night vision is excellent. My old Withings Home cam did a good job with night vision as well, but was a bit grainy. I didn’t even notice that much, and just appreciated it for what it could do. After all, night vision on any camera works better than my eyes alone. But Wyze’s cams have superior night vision. The imagery is crystal clear with no grainy visual noise present. As for the sound quality, that could be a bit better. But again, for cams that have a starting price of $20, who am I to complain, really? The sound works. I can use my phone to traumatize my son into laying back down by speaking into the app. Pretty funny, actually. He listens. After throwing down for 3 cameras that ended up being much less expensive that 1 Withings Home, I also bought the SquareTrade warranties to go with them. Why not, right? I don’t know if these things are going up in price and the warranties cover 4 years. These are lightweight cameras and perhaps they won’t be able to stand the test of time. So it was better to be safe than sorry. I’ll probably get a 4th and 5th one soon enough as well to show the garage and the kitchen. But ultimately, these are amazing personal WiFi cameras I cannot recommend more. My only gripe is that I wish they were HomeKit compatible as I’m not a fan of Alexa’s laggy services.

The media could not be loaded. I bought this camera for monitoring my hedgehog’s cage to check for abnormal behavior and just to see what she gets up to when I’m sleeping or not there. As far as set-up goes, I liked setting up the Wyze camera better than setting up my Nest cameras. The Nest cameras required having enough light and no shadows to scan a QR code sticker on the camera. Setting up the Wyze camera scanned a QR code that your phone puts out, making it that much easier. The Wyze camera only operates on 2.4GHz wireless frequencies and not the 5GHz. I thought this was going to be an issue because I have a wireless network that puts out both signals with the same name and, therefore, I can only select that name and not choose the 2.4GHz to set that one specifically and I have run into issues in the past with cheaper smart home devices that only operate on 2.4GHz. Instead, I just wasn’t connected to the wireless, typed the SSID name and the password, and it connected up without a hitch! If only the smart plugs would connect that easily! The motion detection works great and captured my little scamp knocking around her snuggle sack and castle. The automatic clips are limited to 12 seconds with the free version, but you can use those to then scroll back in time to that particular time frame and you can record from there manually, if you want the whole video of movement. It has absolutely no problem with recording in complete darkness, as you can tell. Although my test is limited to just a few feet of cage, so I can’t speak to the wider aspects of using it for long distance night-vision, it worked great fr my purposes. The app does have the ability to set up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), making them a bit more secure than some, which is great for something you want to use and feel safe about having around. This camera only allows for up to a 32GB microSD card to be inserted (which you will need for anything that isn’t a live view)(and is not included). I encountered a brief problem at first as I didn’t have any spare ones that small lying around the house, but did have one in a photo camera that I was able to swap into the Wyze camera and put one of my larger micro SD cards into that camera as a replacement. The cable is a bit short, but it’s just a micro USB, so you can buy one of longer length, if you need a longer one. You can also daisy chain camera power as they have a USB A output and there is enough power running from the plug supplied that should be able to power 3 cameras from the one plug.Physical setup of the camera was easy enough. It’s magnetic at the bottom, so can hold fast to ferrous things. It includes a sticky pad as well as a metal disc for mounting. with the camera down to its base, it’s a little easier to secure it to less magnetic things or less metal in-general. I was able to hang it just from the wires on top of the cage with the base collapsed. With the base extended, it put different forces on the magnet, so was trying to pull off of the wires, so I just secured the metal disc in place with duct tape around the wires of the cage, and the camera holds fast to it with the base extended without problem. With the base extended, you have many options for angles of the camera. With it collapsed, you only get flat to the disc/whatever object it is sitting on.As far as physical security of the camera itself? It’s pretty nonexistent straight out of the box. There may be something you can buy to add physical security to the camera, but as I didn’t need it, I didn’t look into it. The camera is, by default, only connected by a magnet. The cable has nothing to prevent tampering or removal from the camera. But, this *is* an indoor camera, so they probably aren’t expecting it to be needed as much. If someone can get to it, you’ve got a problem already. The nest indoor cameras I have are basically the same as far as physical security goes, for 10 times the price, but again, if someone is accessing your indoor cameras, the problem has already occurred. You can add on complete motion capture to the cloud for $1.50/camera/month, so still VERY affordable if you want that extra level of security for seeing who might have messed with a camera(or just to have longer motion clips stored on the cloud than just 12 seconds), but it was unneeded for me because I doubt my Hedgehog is going to go Ghost Recon on me and climb the walls that are guarded against climbing, to get to the top of her cage, to disconnect the camera.I highly recommend this for budget home security and monitoring.

Giving you a little bit of background… I got Foscam cameras ages ago and they worked but then didn’t work well with WiFi when I updated to a Netgear Orbi router. Apparently Netgear Orbi and other mesh routers don’t play well with a lot of security cameras like Ring doorbell (which I have) and Swann (which I also have). However with multiple firmware updates via Ring and Swann and Netgear Orbi, things are working better. These Wyze cameras work fine with my Netgear Orbi. With all the reviews you read, all cameras will have issues with recording and motion detection. At times a person will have come and gone and the device misses. My Ring doorbell misses a lot. My opinion is it depends on your situation and how the cameras are pointed and the environment. Some reviews will tell you a camera’s motion detection is always spot on and some people will tell you the same camera is not. Again it depends on your situation/environment.My Swann cameras connect to a base station hard drive but aren’t connected to the cloud for backup. I could set up a cloud backup of the base station but I think consumers want an easier hassle-free built in cloud set up. There are newer Swann products that do this. My Swann also only record when they detect motion but they miss less than the Ring doorbell. I wanted additional coverage for some areas of my home and considered fully wireless cameras like Arlo and Blink but those cameras also just do motion detection based recording to save on battery life. I believe the Arlo Pro 2 will do continuous recording but then it needs to be wired power to do so. My friend told me about the Wyze cameras and they are an inexpensive power corded solution that do both motion based recording and if you put in an SD memory card, it will do continuous recording. The motion based footage will save to the cloud for free (14 days worth) while the continuous recording only saves to the SD memory card. A 32GB card retains the past 3 days worth of continuous footage. Once it detects motion, it will record 12 seconds of video but then there is a refractory period (I have been told 5 minutes) where it won’t do motion recording again so there has definitely been activities that it missed. This is where having the SD memory card is useful to do continuous recording. You can then view the time of the motion recording and then review the footage of the continuous recording at that time if needed and not miss anything. The continuous footage does not back up to the cloud. These things are easy to set up and inexpensive and small and the power cord is pretty long to handle most placement situations. In the end I do think sometimes security cameras give you false sense of security unless you really take into account where you have cameras pointed and what angle and test out different scenarios. Case in point… we had a porch pirate steal some packages in our gated neighborhood. Our gated neighboorhood has entrance/exit cameras but the way they are pointed could not visualize the vehicle’s license plates and resolution too poor to visualize person’s face. I viewed my own cameras footage and caught the vehicle drive by my house but also my camera angles and the distance the vehicle was from cameras made reading plates not good. Perhaps if the person went to my porch I would have had a good capture of his/her face. In the end I use my cameras to get alerts when packages get delivered. To see if I have left lights on downstairs or in garage or whether I left garage door open. I don’t really rely on them as much for security. However, the wyze cameras do have another option that I have not been able to test out but am curious to see if it works. Apparently CO and smoke detectors nowadays put out a specific sound and these cameras have ability to send you an alert if smoke detector or CO detector goes off in your house. Could save your house from burning down when you are away if it alerts you in time.

This is the first camera I’ve purchased and I learned few things. It’s not that great, because it still lacks some features such as when it’s dark, it shows videos in black and white, and the voice over is not clear. But I still like it considering the price I paid when it was $25. Also I don’t know much about cameras.
