Guessing that a lot of these purchases are event driven and mine certainly is. We have a cabin and a barn on a 6 acre piece of property. The barn is where we park the tractor and store the supporting tools and supplies. The barn was recently broken into and everything of value was taken. While that is deeply disheartening, it really only affects me. If the cabin were to be robbed and ransacked like the barn was, I have several young children that would likely never want to go/stay there again.I do consider myself handy when it comes to mechanical and electronic projects. I also believe that I am a good researcher and analyst. I found that there are a lot of great alarm systems available at very affordable prices today including DIY professional systems. Several of the professional systems now have videos on installation and configuration—configuration used to be the tough part of installing one of those. In my case, I was looking for a balance of price, ease installation and options for monitoring. Given the recent break-in, I also wanted to get this project started and completed quickly as the cabin is just as vulnerable as the barn. This next statement may make you question my research, or at least, reading abilities. While I did plan to have the system monitored, I didn’t realize until after I purchased my SimpliSafe system that you can’t monitor the system remotely at all with the app without one of the SimpliSafe plans, and, at the time of this writing, March, 2021, you have to have the $25/mo. plan to do any serious monitoring. I would have putt off having the system monitored for a while if that were not the case. Perhaps it is better that I was forced into a plan earlier than I wanted. As an aside, SimpliSafe gives you 3 days of ‘practice’ use after you activate your system. This means they won’t contact local law enforcement if the system detects and alarm. On the one hand I wanted my system monitoring to start immediately but, do understand the logic of giving me time to learn to use the system without causing false alarms. The installation was truly easy. Once you plug in the basestation and pull the battery tab on the keypad, you are off to a great start. Installing any of the sensors is as easy as removing a paper battery tab, using the keypad to tell the basestation that you are installing a new device and naming it from a list once the basestation announces that a new device has been detected. The preinstalled double sided tape makes mounting the sensors easy. Our cabin has numerous unfinished roughhewn wood surfaces and I decided to mount sensors that had to be on those surfaces with the included screws. I didn’t try the included self-adhesive on the roughhewn wood which, may have worked perfectly.SimpliSafe tells you how far away you can mount sensors like the glass break and motion sensors but it was less clear about how high to mount them given the space I was working in or, for the glass break in particular, the angular range that it could work with. For example, if you have windows on opposite sides of a room with no option to mount the sensor in the middle, can it detect glass breaking behind it or beside it?SimpliSafe sensors are relatively inexpensive, and, as such, perhaps an extra sensor or two isn’t a bad thing. The App is easy to set up and use and definitely slanted to the easy side rather than the comprehensive side. That said, if a sensor were to drop off the app will alert you to that. I am not looking forward to changing batteries but would rather that to running wires through an older structure.SimpliSafe has done a great job making system purchase, installation and operation easy and straightforward. They even sent me an e-mail letting me know that the county where my cabin is located requires a form and payment to be completed and sent to authorize monitoring and, more specifically, response. Not only did they tell me about it, they sent me the exact link to the form. They also let me know that no paperwork or fee was required for the fire monitor. The cabin can be a relatively harsh environment with high humidity in the summer and relatively cold nights. I am hoping the sensors, base station and keypad are rugged enough to function for years to come.If you are looking at one of these systems, read all you can to understand what you can and can’t do with and without SimpliSafe’s monitoring options. Watch or read about sensor placement and plan your own install. I don’t think you have to become an alarm expert but each install has its own challenges. I found plenty of good information available from a lot of sources on the Internet to address those challenges. I have not interacted with SimpliSafe’s customer service at this point and can’t comment on that aspect of the product.Overall, I believe I made a good decision for my family and have only positive things to say about the installation and operation of my SimpliSafe system.

After much consideration and reading up on security issues with current wireless alarms that rely on internet (IP) connectivity for their controller app., I found that the Simiplisafe alarm was the best choice for use in a rental home. Just ensure your wireless network runs WPA2 encryption. All of the the wall sensors are very light, and can actually mount with quick-remove 3M adhesive strips, even the larger motion sensors. Setup was really quick, and easy. There were no issues loading the app, connecting the base to my home WiFi, pairing to the alarm, or adding sensors. There are no dongles to arm/disarm, but loading the app to phones for each member of the household was easy. One sensor mounting issue I ran into is that there is no adjustment to the motion sensors. Other brands have a base that pivots, but these mount flat to a wall, or at 45 degrees. You have to get creative with position or they wont protect the areas of coverage well. The indoor IP camera in the kit actually works too well. There is so much sound, you are constantly hearing humming of motors or fans in the house. However, when someone actually walks in, it picks up that sound crystal clear. The night vision is quite good as well. The app. is super simple to setup, and has worked reliable everywhere I am, even across the State. The ability to add outdoor IP cameras is great, and the control panel has a quality feel, with easy to read screen, and great night lighting. The base unit has a built-in battery backup, and is easy to place anywhere you need it. The furthest sensor from the base so far is about 75 feet away, and on a lower floor, but function has been reliable.I have installed multiple alarms in rentals, and really feel like this is the best one so far. It’s a great product for anyone needing a wireless alarm option that is reliable, and secure.

I got this system recently on Amazon and it has been working quite well.I love the fact that I can use my phone to arm, disarm and other functions.I did not subscribe to the monthly monitoring by the company as others recommend. It is a good idea depending on your budget but I feel what it is doing at the moment is exactly what I need it for.Setting it up was pretty simple. I have the two inside sensors which I am pretty much utilizing even when at home because we sleep upstairs so we need the downstairs activated at night.I put the indoor camera in my garage and it is working just fine. The only downside is that I have to subscribe to be able to view recordings.Although I am not subscribed, I still managed to get hold of support where I just wanted to ask about the warranty. They are responsive and I give them a 5 for that also.Overall, it’s working, I love it and will not hesitate to update my review if I face any challenges.

We love this system. It was very easy to install and works well. I used it to replace a professional system I had installed many years ago that wasn’t working so well anymore. We also really love having the video camera set up so we can watch our cats when we’re away.

I’ve just added to my system. A good system!

When I bought the system you could self-Monitor for free. You just had to activate notifications on your phone. With the latest update you now have to pay since they have disabled that ability. So now I have to decide whether I want to have a worthless boat anchor of of security system, or give in to corporate greed. Their are videos going around that are saying that a simple transmitter can disable the system, and the cameras are very problematic. Connection issues are also a problem. Seems to be a cheap plastic material that everything is made of. Probably will go and research other options, and get rid of simpli-junk

Works great. Slight problem with one entry sensor but I’ll just get a new one.

I’m very happy with the system. I did add a lot of sensors to my original purchase and I was very pleased at how easy it is to set up. The cellular back up is a definite plus also. I am away from home quite frequently and the system certainly gives me some peace of mind. It’s was so easy I ended up buying another system for my vacation home.

My boyfriend and I have felt a huge relief after installing this security system! We originally wanted to find a set up after we had a package stolen off of our front porch this past summer and after some searching online I found this one with great reviews. It was super easy to install. I love the magnetic door pieces used to detect entering and exiting. If its disarmed it will have a gentle noise ring to let you know the door is open. When the system is alarmed it will set off a beeping noise to let you know to enter the code on the keypad and disarm. We had some trouble getting connected to the wifi as our router wouldn’t allow us to split the 2G and 5G ourselves. I was able to call customer service and they suggested I get a wifi extender. This worked great and it has been working great since! The phone app is super useful as well!

What would you pay for piece of mind? Let’s face it, times and the economy are fueling a lot of crime!!!!!! I’ve worked hard my whole life and I want to keep my home and family safe!!!!! A good security system is a great way to do that. The installation is very simple and the 24-7 monitoring is a must have. I started with the basic equipment which I was self monitoring. NOW I’ve added smoke detectors and additional cameras along with the monitoring with a simple phone call. With the app on my phone I can check to make sure the system is armed and I can also watch live video from anywhere!!! At less than $30 a month I now have piece of mind.
