The ONLY problem you are going to have with this scanner is programming it according to the instructions in the manual, because they’re not great. However, there are a ton of YouTube videos about this unit; watch one and you’ll be like “yeah, this is super easy.” The only reason I can think of why you’d want a more upscale scanner is if your local police department uses digital radios – more and more departments go that way every year – and you want to listen to the cops. This one won’t do that; the one that will is $339.49. This radio will tune in any kind of auto racing, plus weather, aviation, marine and railroad traffic. This can be programmed from a Windows PC; as I am a Mac person that’s not an option for me, but programming it from the front panel is easy to do.This does not support Bluetooth out of the box. If you have a good pair of Bluetooth headphones, Amazon sells adapters for less than $20 that will interface your headphones to this scanner. For MOST purposes these are fine. For auto racing they are not – it is very loud at the speedway and you need isolation headphones, such as the Race Day Electronics headphones I bought from Amazon. Those are awesome. I use them for woodworking as well as going to races and they work well both places.BIG recommendation: buy Ni-MH batteries because that will save you a lot of cash. The scanner will recharge Ni-MH batteries so you don’t need a separate charger. Program it before you go to the speedway so it’s ready for you when you get there. It will cost you $47.95 to rent a scanner at a race, and it must be returned when you leave. If you buy this scanner and a set of headphones, you’ll be saving money at your third race. AND it’s yours! Also consider: they don’t rent scanners at airports or on Amtrak trains and that traffic is a lot of fun to listen to. It’s really worth it to have your own scanner.

I bought this scanner as an open box item. It looked new but did not come in the original box. However, the manuals and USB computer cable were included. I was able to program a few channels after reading the manual, and found the pre-programmed category search to be quite useful. In a few hours I had found all of the local police, fire, and analog EMS frequencies and got them programmed in. The Air band was very interesting as well. Overall, for the discounted price, it is a nice radio.

I use this for listening to the railroad, employees, and train engineers. Train traffic. Etc. it has 500 channels that you can listen to . I enjoy watching trains when they come into my area.easy to program your favorite channels. As it says in description you also have marine, police , rescue etc.

Easy to program manually, seems like the battery’s last a long time, got about10 hours of use on 2 AA batteries, you will want to get rechargeablebatteries, excellent performance, picks up over 50 miles away with the antenna that came with it. Looks great. Like it very much. The USB cable was missing.

I used to listen to AM talk radio first thing in the morning with coffee before work. AM radio at night before bed. I like being updated on news daily. Since I bought this scanner I have so much info on what’s going on in and around my neck of the woods I am kept entertained and into the know. Before it gets in the media! Love it!!! Programing is very easy. I get police, fire, Ham, aircraft, CB, Wilco feed store, and more! My AM radio listening has been cut down by at least 75%. Only thing I wish it was able to receive digital as well. Those scanners are a little expensive for my budget right now. For the price this is a great scanner and am glad I bought it. 🙂

I picked this scanner up to take to the race track to listen to the team radio transmissions. After skimming through the manual, and watching a 6 minute YouTube video on the Uniden channel, I was able to program the scanner with ease. I don’t know how I’ve attended raves for the last 20 years without a scanner. Following the races on the scanner makes them so much more enjoyable! The only thing this scanner is missing is alpha tagging. For the races, I just program the car number to the matching channel number, so I know who I am listening to. I would highly recommend this scanner to any race fans.
