I brought a pair of these along on an off-road expedition and quickly found them to be quite superior to the pre-configured ones handed out by the trip leader!First, the downsides, which are minor: one is that this is FRS-only, so a max of 2 watts transmit power, but the upside is there is no licensing requirement. Just know that they only transmit at full power on channels 1-7 and 17-22; channels 8-16 are 0.5 watts only and best reserved for your kids’ secret backyard spy missions or when you have wide-open spaces and want to conserve battery.Second, these are a bit bulky. They’re fine for me, but for a woman or anyone with small hands, they might be too big. In that case you might be happier with a non-waterproof radio like the Baofeng GM-15 or Radioddity equivalent, which are not only more compact but also offer more power (along with requiring a license, but that’s only $35 and there’s no test involved). Those things said, these are really good radios. On my trip, while I was using the unit provided by the trip leader, nobody could hear me transmit—which was a serious problem at one point. The batteries were good and the unit appeared operational—and I could hear everyone else—but it had apparently failed, and the transmit function no longer worked. When I switched to one of these, instantly everyone was hearing me loud and clear, which saved my bacon (I had an overheating engine). I didn’t come close to touching the battery capacity in two days of continuous use (without recharging), and I was very pleased with the performance overall. The controls are fairly intuitive and the screen is clear (first photo), with an easy-to-activate bright green backlight that makes things really stand out in dim light situations. (The shadowing visible on the display in the photo is a some kind of artifact produced by the camera; the display is completely clear in reality.)There are also a larger number of “privacy codes” on these units than on most, which means that if everyone in your group are using these (or other similarly-equipped Motorolas) you’ll have a larger number of privacy options, which increases your odds of finding a clear channel.Lastly, the option (as seen in the second photo) to pop in regular AA batteries in place of the rechargeable battery-pack that comes with the unit gives you good backup power options in case you don’t have easy access to AC while out and about. These units are sealed against water, which means they are also sealed against changes in barometric pressure—which can in some situations pressurize the unit and reduce the speaker volume. If you’re not getting full volume, try unplugging and then re-plugging the charging port to equalize pressure. All in all these were a very satisfying purchase that I will be using more in the days to come!

I was quite excited when I received this product. This two pack bundle kit came in a Motorola “M” logo semi-hard case. In the case, several netted compartments hold the various accessories. Complete inventory includes two florescent green waterproof Talkabouts, two NiMH battery packs, two belt clips, two USB cords, one car charger (with two USB ports), and one home charger. The home charger also has two microUSB plugs for charging both radios at the same time. Yes, it’s florescent green, but this is no toy. If these units were black, they would be the same (or better) units used by “security” in any large corporate environment, school campus, or professional stadium athletic or concert events. First thing I had to do was to install the battery packs. These packs are actually three AA NiMH batteries wrapped as one. You can also use three AA alkaline batteries. Battery compartment is water tight via o-rings as seals and two screws. I used a dime to open and tighten the screws. The entire unit does not have any knobs and all buttons are sealed. Each unit has a built in flash lights with RED or White LEDs. I have not tried all the different codes, but I understand it has 23 channels with 121 interference eliminator codes (which totals 2,662 combinations). Radios with same code combination can communicate with one another. According to the box, mountain to valley range is 35 miles, open water range is 6 miles, and neighborhood range is 2 miles. I have not yet tried any great distances, but it definitely works within a few blocks. There are only two minor flaws I see. 1) the two USB cords and the home wall charger have very light cheap wires. I’m talking about wires that feel like those free disposable headsets you get on airplanes. 2) There are no nobs and the volume is on a digital scale from 0 to 5. What it means is that going from 0 (no sound) to 1, 1 might already be too loud. There are situations where I can see the volume needs to be heard, but only at ear whisper levels. The digital volume on this unit will not be able to accommodate such ultra low volume use. Make sure you have an ear piece! Other than that, these are GREAT solid substantial units.

Fairly simple to operate. Range between vehicles on the road approx 0.25-1.0 miles. Clarity and volume good until range limit, then some crackling in voice.

these have worked great for general use around the house (when working together on things on different floors) and outdoors. we have used them in different cars while caravaning on road trips and they work well enough if the cars are close together and one of them isn’t a box truck lol. I have had good experiences with Motorola radios before and have not been disappointed. the main factor in selecting these is that they are waterproof and float, but I have not tested this yet. good buy.

Excellent build quality as being Motorola brand. (Bundle kit.)Absolutely crisp and clear voice on these units, with NOAA capability & safety light/whistle, built into an extremely compact & solid design.Note: Save a few dollars, through buying directly out of the Amazon warehouse deals section at check out.So what, the Motorola T605/H20 doesn’t come with paper instructions (Download online, in 30 seconds into PDF/upload to your Google drive account for review when required) also there’s ever so slight wear on the main screens of set.(Bought the set through Amazon warehouse certified.)Used in very good condition.Save where one can nowadays, yet still acquire a needed also useful item. For one would need to take a hammer to these tough Motorola talkies!Lastly: The rechargable batteries included are outright weak and simply don’t last long, at only 9 hours rated, but using regular AA batteries can give on up to 23hrs continuous use. Yet the talkies won’t float, when using standard batteries!

I bought these in November, and have not had a chance to use them as I intend to, as a means of communicating between kayaks. Once I have done so I will add to this review.I have tested them on land, and here are my observations so far:- when tested in town I have been able to communicate at 1/2 mile, at which the signal is both strong and clear. That may not sound like much, but it twice as far as my older 1 watt FRS Talkabouts, which only manage 3 blocks. Urban environments are tough for low powered UHF radios.- some have mentioned that the volume of the units is too low. That is not my experience. I can hear them quite well, and I often turn their volume down.- UHF signals are line of sight, and can carry on for miles, but I was surprised to hear transmissions from a GMRS transmitter located 50 miles away. That has a lot more to do with the transmitter than it does with my units, but I do not hear those broadcasts on my older Talkabouts.- the units seem rugged.- they are bulkier than my other (non waterproof) FRS/GMRS radiosThe rules concerning FRS/GMRS radios can be somewhat confusing, but at this time (and since 2018) these units are completely license free. You can communicate on them with any FRS/GMRS (2 watts, mostly) radio or GMRS (up to 50 watts and licensed) radios. If you don’t understand any of the above, no problem. The point is if you have these radios you don’t need a license to use them, and you can talk to anyone you can hear on them!
