We use these to communicate in an area with iffy cell phone signals, and so that we can communicate with our kids (they do not have phones). It has a range, in my area, of 2100 feet and the communication is clear. If someone goes into a metal building then the signal becomes more distorted. When in a metal building communication is still very possible, it is just not as clear. You may have different results and we are not professional radio people, but these are perfect for us.

I work in a large department store, (three floors, 160,000 square feet, lots of clothes, tiles, panels, steel, and concrete) and bought these radios for communication with fellow employees during a shift. They work well! I can hear the cashiers on the first floor while I am on the third floor on the complete opposite side.My store has some of these radios but they are rather old; love these new ones though! I am glad I bought them. Battery life is pretty good. I can work two full 8 hours shifts before they need to be recharged (they will die through a third shift so you must recharge them). My only real complaint is the 12 hour charge time, but that’s not a major issue and seems to be standard across many radios/brands.A BIG PLUS TO THESE:The descriptions mention it can get emergency alerts from the NOAA. I had the question if I could listen to the general broadcast from my local station. Unfortunately the descriptions and Q&A sections weren’t clear. TURNS OUT, YOU CAN! All you have to do it hold the “Up” / “WX” button for four seconds and it automatically connects to your local station. The radio signal is not as strong as the walkie-talkie function, but might do in an emergency. For example, I can hear NOAA just fine in my house, but the radio couldn’t connect to a signal in the middle of my department store.Overall, I love these little walkies! They do exactly what I need them to do!

I use these radios often when down at the lake fishing. They have good range, and are clear sounding, both transmitting or receiving. They keep a charge all day and are easily charged. I have been very pleased with my purchase.

My wife had fallen. She can get out of bed, but needs me to help her get up and help her walk.I was using Alexa, but then the internet went down.Alexa occasionally announces things that have no meaning to me.I live in a housing development near a small town.I scanned the channels and found no one on any of them..I choose channel 11.I did not have to use the extra tones, since there were no others on any channel. On low power it will talk inside and outside. The volume is probably too low, to hear when I am riding on my mower.I can sort of hear it, but not well enough to know for sure. The mower make a lot of noise.I have to turn it off, if someone comes up to talk to me.We live in a brick house.Midland LTX630VP3 is a pretty good radio. I like the 2 year warranty and the screen is large enough for my old eyes to see the channel number. I choose yellow on black for the case. Midland is a recognized name in handheld FRS radios. I did not need a GMRS license, because I was not going to talk very far. I think about 2 miles is all that it will talk on an open field. 30 miles is mountain top to mountain top, if the atmosphere is excellent and using GMRS 50 watt radio. It has an excellent battery charger, The 2 units snap in.Unlike the Baofeng, where I have to try again and again to get the radio in the charger. It weighs a little more than 1/2 the weight of Baofeng UV5R.I clip it in my shirt pocket and do not know that it is there.I charge it 6 hours at night and the red light never goes out.If I used it all the time, I think I would need some rechargeable AAA batteries.Three things that Midland did not do.1. The battery case has no way to reasonably remove it. But a small screwdriver or knife, inserted just below the serial number, in the middle, and wiggled will help get the case off. The screwdriver make no mark on the case.2. Midland does not tell how to insert the battery. I am including a photo that shows where the the tab goes. (lower left).3. Midland’s instruction manual, with 3 point character size, is too little for me to read. There is a PDF manual, not at Midland, that has full size print.I am returning the radio.I needed a radio that I could have turned on for 16 hours, then recharge in 7 hours – at most. The radio is in standby 98% of the time, for about a 16 hours day. This battery takes over 12 hours to charge, so I can not use it.It would take rechargeable batteries to make it work.It is a not convenient to remove the clip and to get a knife to open the case.I had ordered the batteries and a charger. After thinking about the daily removing, installing, charging of batteriesfor two devices, two times per day, I will need to return the charger and batteries.Another manufacturer make a 3000ma battery for a radio. It takes 5 hours to charge. It is also, lower priced than this radio and the charger and the batteries. I will need to go with that radio.

We used these recently on vacation in the national park where our cell phones do not work. They were awesome! Often we were on the river and although we were relatively close in range we could not hear each other over the river — so we used these almost daily — and they worked great! We also used these when we were in different locations so we could continue to communicate. We could hear clearly, had them on all day with no battery issues, and they were easy to use. As far as range goes, we were typically only using them within a few miles, so couldn’t say how well they work in long range situations. We like the display so we can quick and easily check to be sure we are on the same channel. There is a clip on the back side of the radio that allowed us to easily clip on our pack or vest. The radio’s are small and compact, about the size of the palm of your hand, and the charging station is small too. The small size made it easier to pack and took up very little space. Both the radios and charging station are also very light weight – which was a necessity for us as we take a fair amount of gear and staying under the airline weight limit can be a challenge. During our trip, we decided this was the winner for best “gear” item we took with us. So glad we made this purchase!!!

Compact, easy to use. Crisp, clear reception, even when both units are communicating from opposite ends of different solid-brick buildings across an alley from each other. Granted, not a long range – only about 300 feet – but many layers of brick and plaster in between, yet still crisp and clear as if in the same room. I’m guessing long range distance out in the open is good as well, but have not tested yet.

My daughter in law wanted something that we could use to keep in contact with each other in the event of a disaster as well as listen in on weather and related information on emergency stations. This was my choice.

The radio is very good. The sound is clear and the range is exceptionally better than other radios I have used in the past. I would recommend these radios to any one that is looking for radios.
