I’ve had these for about a week and I’m very impressed! I’m an audio engineer by profession so I’m naturally hyper critical regarding speaker sound quality, balance, and tone. I have lots of experience with both similarly priced monitors this size and ones that cost10x as much, designed for critical listening SO, the verdict? Before I get technical, these1280DB speakers are simply SATISFYING and very PLEASANT to listen to for most genres of music, TV & movies and spoken content. Bass is natural, low mids are full and punchy, highs are crisp and most importantly, the mids are clear and detailed. They hold their own compared to $$$ Dynaudios! They are smooth like ribbon-tweeter ADAMs. Bose fans will probably not like these as the EQ curve is not over hyped in the lows nor brittle in the highs.Getting this sound along with 2 analog inputs, 2 digital inputs, bluetooth AND a useable on-board EQ AND a remote with a Mute button (!!) is simply unheard of at well under $150.If you are looking to upgrade your media center in a bedroom or small living space, listen to a variety of music and content for extended hours do not pass these up! Your won’t find better with these features. I’m getting another set for the bedroom.TL;DRAre there better speakers out there? Absolutely. But not with this feature set and well planned multi-use I/O. If you like extremes (massive bass, head frying treble and volumes that will rattle your glassware, these aren’t for you. If you like to be right there in the studio with Miles Davis recording Kind of Blue, hearing nuance and tone, these are for you. There is ZERO listening fatigue at up to 90% of max volume for hours! Fatigue is commonly found with speakers of this size (Bose) and class that commonly sound ok for about 15 minutes until your ears fight off the painfully hyped EQ curve by reducing your sensitivity to bass and treble, leaving a messy and tiring midrange. Rather, these Edifers can be placed in a small living room and sound great all over the room. Great for passive listening as well as focused listening. Excellent stereo imaging too. They don’t get crazy loud (you can speak loudly over them at 90% volume – above 95% distortion starts to enter and your don’t want that) but are plenty loud for small to mid size rooms. There’s bass for sure, but they don’t thump. And you shouldn’t expect that for ~$130 unless you want fake fatigue thump. To get true thump you need a woofer cone at least 6″ , pref 8″. To outdo these speakers you’re looking at $200+ and half the features. No, they are not flat but the inherent EQ curve works amazingly well. I can critically judge mixes on these. They sound natural in the bass, crisp but soft in the high freq and most importantly they have a CLEAR, nicely balanced low-mids to mids to high-mids range. And these are ” computer speakers ” per se! I would use these in a pro studio if I had to.And look, sound is extremely subjective. You’ll get 100 different opinions from 100 ppl. But your can trust that all things equal, you will surely enjoy the sound of these. They have a tone to them that is just RIGHT, and not all wonky in some random freq area or phase issue like most other small format consumer models.Edifer nailed it with these and I don’t know how they kept them under $150. Don’t pass these up. They sound fantastic! From minute 1 to hour 12.

not sure what some of the critics are talking about. Set up was easy and works very well. The sound is really good and more than adequate for my large living room. The bass is perhaps too much and I have it damped and have increased the treble. Certainly for than worth the price

I’m no audiophile, but one need not be an audiophile to know when they’ve encountered a quality product. The Edifier R1280DB Powered Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers are a quality product. The first thing I noticed is how attractive the speakers are. They’ll look great anywhere and are small enough to tuck away if they need to be out of sight. The construction is solid and tight and the materials are clearly of superior quality. It took me maybe three minutes to set them up. I plugged one speaker into the wall and ran the speaker wire (provided) from one unit to the other. I turned the power on and quickly noticed that I could push the volume dial to switch between sound modes (Line, optical/coax or bluetooth). I selected bluetooth and then set my iPad mini to the same. Bam! Instant connection. And then the music started. Holy wow. The sound is gorgeous. There are only three knobs (bass, treble and volume/input), so there isn’t much to adjust. I set the knobs to where I typically like them for Jazz. The high notes were crisp and solid. The bass was not heavy, but also not muddy–exceptionally clean. My guess is, if you’re someone who wants the bass to crush your chest, then these speakers might be a disappointment. But if you want a crisp, clean bass that provides a solid foundation in reality–you will not be disappointed. Honestly, I felt like I was in a professional studio listening to music as it is meant to be heard (not so my my living room). So, if you want some nice looking, compact speakers that are easy to use and sound amazing–buy these. Well worth the money.

I’m a long-time sound equipment guy, and have to admit that I’m burned out dealing with component systems, and compressed audio really doesn’t sound that great to me even on the best setups. These powered speakers sound good enough, are easy to connect, and in my experience pair effortlessly with bluetooth. Also, this system provides a subwoofer out port so I can use my existing powered sub if I want, and optical input to connect a TV or CD player. There’s a lot of flexibility and just not much to dislike. I guess the remote is a bit cheap-feeling, but again, for the price it’s fine.

I got these speakers to use with my iPhone and Bluetooth Pandora. I could not be happier with them! They sound great, and look good. I don’t use the remote because I’m able to control what I want with my iPhone. The packaging was very nice and the delivery was good. And set up was a snap. Plug in the power, use the wire to connect the two speakers, sync the Bluetooth and away you go.

I bought these speakers about a month ago. I wanted to use them for a while before I wrote a review about them. I connected them directly to my TV through the optical Port. I was having a problem connecting them to my TV so I contacted customer service via email. They promptly replied to me and were very helpful. They were even willing to send me another set of speakers when the issue was not resolved right away. Eventually, I was able to figure out what I was doing wrong so it was not necessary for them to send me another set of speakers. When connecting these speakers to a TV make sure you go into the TV settings and change the audio output Dolby digital to PCM. I think the other issue was that I didn’t have my TV turned off when I connected the speakers. Now, I have one very minor complaint before I get to the positive things about speakers. These speakers have an optical Port but they are obviously made to connect to a TV. That being said, it would be nice if there was an indication light on the front of the speaker so that the user could tell if the speaker is on when using the remote to turn the speakers on.Now the positive, these speakers sound great. Especially for what you pay for them. Mine replaced a Bose soundbar and these speakers outperform the soundbar in every way. The build quality is excellent. I believe the sides are made of real wood and the front, back, top and bottom are made of particle board. I did some research and have viewed a few videos that show the inner workings of these speakers. The speakers seem to be well put together and thought out. The magnet on the wolfers are very large. The wiring is done very well.I live in a very small apartment so I didn’t need anything way over the top like a 5.1 surround sound system. These speakers with their 4 inch woofers won’t rattle the rafters but they do deliver a very nice and deep clear sound. I think they would also work very well if they were connected to a computer. I think gamers would really enjoy them. I would highly recommend these speakers to anyone who is on a tight budget and need some good quality speakers. If you consider yourself to be an audio file these probably aren’t the speakers for you. You’ll have to spend two or three hundred dollars more to get something you will like.In conclusion, again I would highly recommend these speakers. I have really enjoyed them. They sound much better than my soundbar ever did. I’m glad they come with all the cables you need. I’m also glad that they come with a remote. Again, I had a great experience with their customer service. A big thank you to them for everything they did to try to accommodate my needs.

I was first attracted to these speakers for my PC because of their wood grain finish. They don’t look like basic PC speakers. They are larger than what you usually see for PC speakers but they fit on my desk at the sides of my wide monitor just fine. When I use my PC, I usually play smooth jazz. The sound from these speakers is beautiful. I love the fact that you can also connect to these speakers via bluetooth. This allows me to play music via music apps that I have on my cell phone. I like that I can connect these speaker to my PC via the simple optical wire that comes with the speakers. The speakers also come with typical RCA plugs and speaker wire. I primarily use the remote that comes with these speakers to switch between the optical connection and the bluetooth connection. I heartily recommend these speakers.

I was able to purchase these speakers at $99.99 for their Black Friday sale. I had been using Creative Pebble speakers which were really good for their price, but upgrading to these speakers has been game changing. I personally don’t listen to music that loud or have a need for a subwoofer, so I purchased this model of Edifier speakers. Out of the box, I’ve tried them via Bluetooth only so far because I’ve heard that there can be connectivity issues. So far, the sound has been very great and I haven’t had any issues! The bass isn’t overpowering or muddled which is exactly what I wanted, and I can hear soft sounds very clearly. There are dials on the side of a speaker that you can use to tweak the bass and treble. An equalizer can definitely help with the sound quality if these speakers aren’t to your liking straight out of the box. It does come with a little remote control if you need one, but I haven’t used it yet (maybe it will come in handy later down the line though). Overall, I’m extremely happy with my purchase and will definitely use these speakers for a long time.Update February 9th, 2024:Still happily enjoying these speakers! I usually use these speakers for console gaming, music, or for listening to videos, and the sound quality is great; I am satisfied enough with the default sound and don’t find myself using the knobs on the speakers to increase/decrease the treble or bass. After continued use there is something I have noticed: whenever I watch any sort of filmography, be it anime or movies, or even commercials for movies, I have to manually adjust the bass and treble knobs on the speaker in order to get a good sound (usually increasing the treble the most to about the maximum it can go and increasing the bass by a little bit). For some reason, the overall sound quality becomes really muddled. The same quality of sound can be found when using the speakers with a wire or by Bluetooth, which is disappointing. However, I would still recommend these to anyone looking for an entry into bookshelf speakers!

Purchased the speakers about 8 months ago, and I have to say they are worth every penny! The sound is clean and vibrant. I forgot what it was like to have a little bit of bass from my computer. I use these exclusively with my computer for everything from listening to music, playing games and working on zoom calls. They are so good that my sister is bugging me to get here a pair as well.

When configured properly in the correct room size or on a desk these will make your chest pound with the bass. Vocals very present highs are pleasant and never harsh.Use in a small room or on a desk.Extremely well balanced sound. Not bad soundstage.Overall a lacking performance if you are used to other more pricy speakers but you would have to spend at least twice the price of what these cost.Plug and play hifi punching way above its price point.
