a long way from home –
For my older Garmin I had the older friction mount. It worked well, but it took up a fair amount of dashboard space and as a result I couldn’t see the clock or miles left to refuel gauges. Kind of annoying but not a deal breaker. When I purchased my new Nuvi a few months back I decided to forego the friction mount and just use the window suction mount that comes with the device. That worked well for a couple of months but now that winter has fully set in the suction doesn’t want to stay put so I came to Amazon in search of other options. This friction mount is great. True, it has a fairly cumbersome footprint, but it is flexible and can be scooched into corners in a way that the last friction mount couldn’t be. As a result, I am able to see all of the displays on my dashboard and the Nuvi sits sturdily in its place. This mount is flatter than the last one which also makes a huge difference to my mind. The other one was a bit more of a modified sandbag. This is just a flattish piece of what appears to be rubber. It is counterweighted by being long and wider in front so your Nuvi wont do a header into your dash. It also can adjust up or down by about an inch or more. Everything on it works great and the nuvi is now in place and easy to read.BOTTOM LINE: for my need this is the perfect solution for mounting the Nuvi. I am once again saying goodbye to the suction window mount.

Garmin Friction MountThis works fantastic with my new Garmin that I purchased from Costco. The window mounts never really seem to work for me and they especially don’t work for me in the Florida heat and humidity. I also don’t like having it in my window because it gives potential thieves a good indication that I have a navigation hidden in my car somewhere. But this, I love! It works fantastic with my Garmin and I even take this with me on travel. It is light weight and folds nicely. I also take it out of my window an put it on the floor of my passenger seat when I am parked somewhere so that people can’t see it sitting in my car window. The stickiness of the base is great. I never slides around on my dash board and I an conform it to fit in pretty much any shape. It has been in many rental cars and I have never had any issues. My car’s dash is kind of flat/round inclined, which is just enough for these types of things to want to go flying when I make a big turn. Not this one, it has pretty much never had any issues. I also like that it is light weight so I can just stick it in my carry on bag and not think anything of it. The sand ones are much to heavy to want to travel with.I definitely recommend this product and it is a great gift for those that use navigations. I bought one for my mom and she loves it as well.

I bought my first GPS system back in 2009 an used a doughnut holder on the dashboard. In 2022 I bought a new GPS device, but the old base I used for the dashboard would not hold any more. So i purchased this one an I’m glad I did. This one stays in place an my GPS doesn’t move or bounce around. I would absolutely recommend this GPS holder to anyone.

I travel around the world and bring my GPS along as most rental cars don’t have a GPS system, or charge to much for it as an option. This friction mount works great holding the GPS on the dashboard of almost any car. You do need to spend a minute bending it or molding it to the particular dashboard shape. When traveling with it, I put the bottom of this friction mount up against the LCD screen of my GPS and then wrap the cord around it before putting it in my luggage or carryon bag to protect the GPS screen. The bottom of this friction mount is very soft. I did notice when carrying it in my airplane carry-on bag that the airport screeners sometime stopped to search my bag as the friction mount has an unusual radar scan shape. The screeners were sometimes serious when looking for it in my carry-on bag but usually laughed when they saw what it really was. This device is so much lighter than non-friction mounts, like sand bag mounts, and collapses to a relatively small size.

Over the years, I’ve purchased many “bean bag” and friction type cell phone dashboard devices. This is the by far the best, and is the perfect fit for each of 3 Garmin devices we own. This unit is “advertised” as a fit for the Nuvi products, and it is perfect for that product, but we also purchased these units for our Garmin eTrex and Oregon handheld units. This Friction Mount unit is not “officially” marketed for these two handheld devices, but (aftermarket , i.e. not Garmin branded products) “ball mounted” brackets are available from Amazon that fit perfectly on this mount with the handhelds, and effectively turn your handheld unit into a “Heads-Up” display for your vehicle (with the purchase of their City Navigator product). Since the City Navigator product (using the Nuvi” dashboard configuration) shows your vehicle speed, as well as the “posted speed limit” for most major thoroughfares), we have one of these mounts (I also purchased two DC power plug-in units for each vehicle) in each vehicle, and we use one of the handheld Garmin units, DC adaptor, and this Friction mount bracket (in its lowest position) located almost directly in the driving line of vision, so we can easily see our speed, as well as the posted speed limit. The Garmin unit and maps are also “smart enough” to know if you exceed the posted speed limit as the vehicle speed display actually changes colors to red, so you can easily stay within the posted speed limit, simply by monitoring the display color.

Garmin Friction Mount for GPS – [car GPS accessory – 0617 – July 20, 2015]This is, in my humble opinion an absolutely necessary item to have for a top-of-dashboard mounted GPS. I purchased this item when I upgraded my unit to the Garmin nüvi 2757LM 7-Inch model. There was no way I wanted that big boy falling off the dash – an experience I had several times with the 5-inch Garmin model suction mounted GPS I’ve been using since 2012.At first I was a little dubious as to just how this item stays stationary without a suction mount. Honestly I was very impressed with how the anti-slip bottom on the flexible mounting pad grips onto the dash. Another outstanding feature of this mount is that you can reposition it by just lifting it off the dash and replacing it where ever you desire – also nice when a passenger want to make an adjustment or a change – lift it off and place it in his/her lap.Just to be clear there is no adhesive on the bottom of the pad – just a very anti-slip surface that prevents movement.Well worth the few dollars it cost – the savings in aggravation attaching the suction mount on a cold winter day will pay you back ten-fold.

My Garmin came with a suction cup. That held it on the glass for about 3 days at a time. I got tired of catching it falling in my lap while driving. This mount is very solid, and does not move at all, even though it is not really attached to the dashboard. Yaris has a small dashboard, still, I found no problem placing it in the spot right by the corner of the windshield. It stays very visible, but not in the way.

A little expensive but worth it. Don’t have to worry about the GPS dropping off the windscreen while driving anymore. Will be buying another one for the GPS in the other car.

While my dash is not configured for optimal orientation of this mount/base, it stays where I put it. The mounting arm does not wiggle, and the DezlCam remains secure without motion or wobble in the recordings.

Windshield mounted Garmin GPS systems just don’t work. I’d recommend you try this item, if your tired of grabbing your GPS off the floor doing 60 mph- it’s just not worth it, we’ve all been there. Should have gotten this years ago. I do wish they provided a larger & sturdier clear plastic protector for the the sticky underside (which you remove when in use). If your like me & want to remove the Garmin friction mount when not in use, I just put it in a ziplock bag to protect the sticky underside from dust, etc. Read that this or a similar item left discoloration marks on a dashboard- would not like to happen but as stated above safety first, a beautiful dashboard’s of no value in the junk yard.
