Great for hiking, especially where the trails have multiple junctions and bends. Saving each hike’s track makes it easy to retrace to where unexplored trails branch off and creates a convenient history of hikes completed. Also great for hiking in areas where the trails aren’t well-marked. If you’re on an all-day hike take an extra pair of AA batteries. Get the largest SD card the unit will accept – a small investment with a big payoff when you download updated maps or add new maps. Lots of features – check out the menu.

It will not take a sd card, put one in and it says no sd card, Ordered new sd cards to see it that works? The two I have would not work! I went on the Garmin web page to see how to insert the SD card and followed the directions!Took over 6 hours to download the updated US ONLY maps.At the price you have to pay (over $255.00O) you would think they could put in a couple dollar sd card for you.You would also think that they could sell a GPS with the updated maps in it.I should receive the new SD cards from amazon tomorrow and I will see it that works – if they do not I guess I will have to try to return itUPDATE:New SD card works.Still do not like to have to download 6 hours of map updates. This is my third Garmin and each one I had to update before using!EVERYTHING WORKS GREAT NOW!

I still have a working eTrex Legend HCx, but wanted to upgrade its capabilities and picked this up on sale. It is basically the same functionality, but newer. Very similar (or the same?) interfaces, so it is easy to start using.

I have used different Garmin GPS for over 20 years. I bought this one to replace an eTrex 30. This GPS is very accurate in the woods. I have been geocaching since 2003 and that is my primary use for this GPS. All the information about the geocache is available on the GPS. It is supposed to hold up to 1000 geocaches. It does take a while to learn how to use the different screens. You use a tiny joystick to move through the choices on the screen. Buttons on the side take you back to the previous screen. The eTrex 32x is much more accurate that the app on your smart phone.

I’ve had this for 6 months now, and used it during hunting season. When scouting state property, there was a medical emergency and we needed to get out and get help fast. The brush was thick and we couldn’t find the trail out that we took in. Cell reception was weak. The tracking feature was essential in finding our way out and getting medical attention to the person who needed it.There is no touch screen to this, which I thought was disappointing at first. However, during the late season hunt, I’m glad it didn’t or I’d have to constantly take my glove on and off. When scouting property or setting up tree stands it’s easy to mark waypoints and then navigate to them pre dawn. This has become an essential piece of gear and I totally recommend it to anyone who is looking for a mid level GPS that won’t completely break the bank.

I’ve been using an eTrex 10 with a paper map for about a year. When they announced the topoActive map with this I decided to give it a try. The additional features are great. The attached picture is a topoActive map. Putting the pointer over a street gives the street name. The distance and direction to the location are shown. Hitting select gives you data on that selected spot. This morning I made way points and a route from the map and walked it using the compass. Very accurate. At this point in my life I don’t need that.I bought the North America automotive map and it works quite well with this. I used it this morning to navigate somewhere where I had a back way. The Garmin rerouted without protest. You can search for gas stations, truck stops, places to eat, hotels/motels and such with both the topo and road maps but the topo thinks you are a crow.Did I say that I really like this? I really do.

I loved the 30 and if this behaves as well it will be perfect! No reason to believe otherwise. I was able to transfer over my waypoints easily!

Used on a few hikes and road trips. its simple and easy to use. setting waypoints on the device with coords is a little annoying but once you get the hang of it its great. Updates from satelite constellations are so much faster than my 15 yr old model. I have zero regrets about buying this model.

We went on YouTube and watched mini segments to understand the technology and applications of this new device. We are very satisfied with the device and its uses.
