Arrived on time. Works well for hiking. A little cumbersome to access the pages, but I knew that going in. Great little GPS.

My 13 year old son was going on a 10 mile hike with 3 of his friends in a place with no cell phone service, we got this as a primary GPS for him to use to make sure they didnt get lost as the trails are not clearly marked. We downloaded the GPX file for the trail and uploaded to the unit, he was able to follow it and mark way points along the trail. He was also using Gia Gps with the same GPX file on his phone when we got home we compared the data between the 2 devices and the data was very similar. The screen is small and the user interface is a bit dated but its basic and it works. For short hikes this is a good unit, if you need a backup for longer hikes or planning on being out for a few days this is a great secondary GPS.

This works perfectly for our geocaching. Easy to use. It’s heavy duty without being too big or bulky which would make it uncomfortable to hold.

It works well, although I haven’t tested it in Mordor and I’m not a ranger.👑

No it doesn’t have as many features as your $1,000+ smart phone and cannot increase its accuracy using WiFi triangulation like your phone. However, I use this device about 3x a week for anywhere between 45min to 2 hours a session for running, hiking, and/or kayaking. The GPS has customizable profiles for each activity. I can go over a month without changing the batteries, because the screen can be seen clearly without the backlight in the daytime. I can carry this device in my hand or clip it to myself without the worries I would have if I was using my phone as a GPS (i.e. losing it, or draining my battery). I prefer the small size; fits in my pocket and light enough to keep in my hand when running. Maybe I’m old-school, but I actually prefer the joystick/pushbutton interface over a touchscreen. Overall, I am very happy with this sub-$200 GPS.

I just purchased about week ago, and I just tried few short hike with this eTrex22x. Since this is the my first GPS, it takes few days to figure it out. I was thinking over and over between two GPS for month. One is mainly for cycling, and another one is this eTrex22x which mainly for hiking. The another GPS for mainly cycling is about $100 more expensive and it has more large touches screen. Like a smart phone. Since I was looking for GPS for mainly hiking/bike tour, I choose this eTrex22x. My first impression was obviously small screen as compared to smartphones which we mostly use in daily life. But I think this design was good for grip in hand safely without dropping during the hike. And I feel comfortable and secure with gripping. And my favorite part are run by 2AA battery, so I don’t need to worry about recharge like a smart phone. Just switch battery in the minute. And it run much longer hour than internal battery GPS system. And additional SD card for more memory. I didn’t tried for bike tour yet, because I didn’t get bike mount for eTrex22x yet. Also Garmin Base Camp for computer works fine, too.

Bought this GPS device to help me navigate my hiking trails without having to download the maps to my cellphone and the routes. I use AllTrails app navigation for all my hiking routes. The Garmin is very easy to operate and small enough to fit in your palm or pocket. I would recommend getting the Garmin Basecamp app to transfer GPS routes to the device. I download the .gps file and then transfer to the Garmin eTrex 22 using the Basecamp desktop app. Definitely a must have to never get lost and not rely on cellphone signals during hiking in remote areas.
