Samsung is on the verge of launching one of its most audacious monitors this year, featuring a never-before-seen 55-inch 1000R curved display. The futuristic-looking display has been coined the Samsung Ark and it will hit shelves featuring all the specifications and benefits needed to become one of the market’s leading gaming (and productivity) monitors.
The new all-purpose panel from Samsung will deliver stunning image quality thanks to the mini LED backlight technology at its center. Furthermore, with a 4K screen resolution and eye-catching vertical orientation, the Samsung Ark really does look like the future of modern displays.
Unfortunately, at the time of writing this, there isn’t a tonne of information regarding release dates, prices, or specifications. However, new information is coming to light every day and we’ll be keeping this page bang up to date with all the latest Samsung Ark announcements.
Samsung Odyssey Ark: release date (what we know so far)
At the time of writing this, there isn’t a great deal of information regarding the Samsung Odyssey Ark release date. However, insiders are starting to speculate potential release dates that could see the new high-end monitor land sometime this year.
As we previously mentioned, Samsung officially unveiled the Samsung Ark back in January at this year’s CES – meaning the chances of a 2022 release date are incredibly high. Furthermore, with the likes of LG and ASUS releasing similar large OLED panels this summer, we’d like to think that Samsung planned to incorporate its Ark release around a similar time.
Of course, this is all speculation at this stage, however, we will be keeping you up to date with all the latest news Samsung Ark release dates right here.
Samsung Odyssey Ark: specifications
On the surface, the Samsung Odyssey Ark might look more like a productivity monitor than a hardcore gaming monitor – however, that’s where your assumption would be wrong. The Samsung Ark is part of the brand’s impressive Odyssey gaming lineup and will feature ‘Odyssey-level’ specifications.
From a productivity standpoint, you really can’t knock this monitor at all. It will feature a high-performance Quantum Mini LED panel – not to be mistaken with the latest QD-OLED technology – that should deliver stunning colors, high peak brightness, excellent local dimming, and HDR performance. Better still, the Samsung Odyssey Ark will also feature a 165Hz refresh rate, low 1ms response time, and VRR technology for both FreeSync and G-Sync systems. Of course, we’ll take the pixel response time with a pinch of salt as panels rarely live up to their marketed response time rating – especially the large-screen options in today’s market.
The Ark will feature a 16:9 aspect ratio and presumably HDMI 2.1 support – with most modern panels featuring the latest HDMI stand. Whether it will feature the same 48Gbps bandwidth of the LG C2 is yet to be confirmed, however, if it does, it’ll be great for both PS5 and Xbox Series X gamers.
Like always, as soon as a full specifications list becomes available we’ll be updating this article with all the details.
Samsung Odyssey Ark: potential price
Again, we don’t have a concrete price for the Samsung Odyssey Ark, however, we can speculate the price of this high-end gaming monitor off some of the other Samsung Mini LED panels that already reside in today’s market.
Taking the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 as a prime example, the Ark could retail for north of $2,500 – yes, that is a 2. The Neo G9 offers up slightly better specifications but doesn’t come with the same enormous 55-inch screen size – meaning the Ark could very well be more expensive than Samsung’s current flagship panel.
Unfortunately, 2022 looks set to be the year of the ‘expensive’ gaming monitor. A lot of new tech has been released this year and prices will naturally mirror that performance increase.
Keep an eye on all of our best monitor guides this year as they will likely change within the next couple of months. If you are considering a new panel, it might be worth waiting to see what options are available in the latter half of the year.
