Another Alolan Pokémon makes its Pokémon GO debut during Sustainability Week 2022 as we welcome the Sage Pokémon Oranguru. Not only that, but Niantic have pledged to plant trees for Trainers who get walking during April’s Community Day.
Pokémon GO’s Sustainability Week will take place in April, coinciding with the Season of Alola and April’s Community Day. This means a week full of enticing events to get Pokémon Trainers to lace up their walking shoes, head out into the Spring weather and help Niantic plant trees.
Niantic’s Pokémon GO tree-planting pledge
If you’re already excited about Community Day, then you might not need an excuse to get out there and get hunting those adorable Stufful. However, thanks to Niantic’s Sustainability week pledge, there is even more reason to spend three hours walking around your local area.
On April 23, 2022, Niantic will be planting a tree for every Trainer who walks more than 5km, up to a maximum of 100,000 new trees. This 5km doesn’t have to be completed during Community Day hours, though. Instead, there will be Timed Research available between 10am and 8pm on the day, with each step requiring Trainers to walk 1km for an encounter with Cherubi.
April’s Community Day featuring Stufful
The Community Day events, however, are restricted to between the hours of 2pm and 5pm local time on April 23. If you’d like to find out more about what’s going on for Community Day specifically, check out our original guide. In-person meetups are back for Community Day in April as well, see all the locations taking part in our April Community Day meetups article.
Oranguru makes its Pokémon GO debut
In celebration of Sustainability Week in Pokémon GO, the Sage Pokémon Oranguru will be making its first appearance in the mobile game. Oranguru is a wild, old Pokémon who lives in the forest, and is a dual Normal and Psychic-type Pokémon. Oranguru will be appearing from the wild and hatching from some 7km eggs obtained during Sustainability Week.
Shiny Cherubi also making its first appearance in Pokémon GO
Another Pokémon making its GO debut during Sustainability week is the shiny variant of Cherubi. Thanks to there being two different forms of Cherubi’s evolved form Cherrim, that’s a total of three new shiny Pokémon to collect. Alongside the Timed Research Cherrim encounters, the Cherry Pokémon will also be available in the wild, hatching from eggs and from Field Research tasks.
A nature-inspired Collection Challenge
There’ll be yet another Elite Collector medal to add to your ever-growing collection thanks to Sustainability Week. While the Pokémon required have not yet been revealed, they are likely to be grass-type related, and nature-inspired, just like the rest of the event. Oranguru and Cherrim will likely be included, as well as the likes of Turtwig and Oddish.
Event Pokémon appearing in the wild
A new rotation of Pokémon will be appearing in the wild for the duration of Sustainability Week. Take a look at the list below, which even includes the cute Stump Pokémon and Ghost-type Phantump, who has been a rare encounter since its release in October 2021.
Event Pokémon hatching from 7km eggs
7km eggs are the focus of Sustainability Week. In order to obtain 7km eggs, you will need to open Gifts from friends, making sure you have space in both your Egg and Pokémon storage when you do so. As Egg Pokémon are determined when the Egg is obtained, no hatched, the following Pokémon can be hatched after the event, as long as the egg was obtained during Sustainability Week.

Event Pokémon encounters from Field Research Tasks
A new set of event-themed Field Research tasks will be available during the week, which will result in the following Pokémon encounters. There will be two additional event tasks which will reward Trainers with Mega Venusaur and Mega Abomasnow Mega Energy,
Event Pokémon attracted to Missy Lure Modules
Finally, due to the emphasis on Grass-types during this event, Mossy Lure modules will be important, and will attract the following Pokémon.
A bonus bundle will be available in the in-game shop for trainers to redeem for one free Mossy Lure module.
