Nintendo have announced that the eShop will close on Nintendo 3DS and Wii U devices. The discontinuation of the eShop will come into effect from late March 2023. As such, the company has revealed a new website on which you can check out your 3DS or Wii U history, and look back on all the great memories you have on these classic consoles.
Wii U and Nintendo 3DS eShop discontinuation
According to the Nintendo Support pages, the discontinuation of the eShop on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS isn’t going to stop you from using them. Far from it. Players will still be able to redownload games and DLCs already owned, and you’ll still be able to make the most of online play. Software updates will still also keep coming. All this means is that you won’t be able to purchase anything new from the eShop for your Wii U or 3DS, including free demos.
As we already know, this is a natural step in the world of gaming, as less people use the devices and move on the new-gen consoles, and new games are no longer created for these platforms. And don’t forget, this doesn’t change the fact that you can still buy cartridges for these consoles, so your 3DS and Wii U experience should go pretty much unchanged.
The biggest thing to bear in mind? Whether you have any eShop credit or Cards that need to be used up…
