Meike EF-RF Control Ring Mount Adapter Announced

Meike has just announced a new and interesting adapter that allows you to use EF (or EF-S) lenses with more modern Canon cameras that feature an RF mount. In addition, you gain a distinctive feature of RF lenses: The so-called control ring is built directly into the Meike MK-EFTR-B adapter.

The RF lens system, Canon’s successor to the mighty EF lens mount, has a rather handy feature: the control ring on the RF lenses. This extra ring on the lens can be mapped to a setting of your choice, such as aperture, shutter speed or ISO.

Meike has now launched a new adapter that not only adapts older EF lenses to the Canon RF mount, but also comes with the aforementioned control ring. This makes good use of the extra space the adapter naturally needs to bridge the longer flange distance of the EF glass.

Meike MK-EFTR-B Control Ring Mount Adapter

Just like the Meike MK-EFTR-C adapter that accommodates circular filters or even a variable ND filter, this new adapter also adds a bit of functionality to the mix rather than just adapting lens mounts.

The Meike MK-EFTR-B Control Ring Adapter provides electronic contacts for communication between lens and camera. Features include:

  • customized control ring function
  • support for IS image stabilization
  • support for autofocus
  • EXIF info transmitting
  • Type-C firmware upgrade

The Meike control ring adapter is built around a SUS304 stainless steel construction. The control ring itself is made of aluminum. A rubber ring provides dust and water resistance.

The whole unit is about 74.4 x 24 mm in size, and it weights just 130g. According to Meike this new adapter sells for $110.

Of course, you still have to decide whether a control ring or a drop-in filter holder is what you need for your workflow. A combination of both would be nice, of course, but I doubt that the limited space will suffice for such an adapter.
