MediaTek Dimensity 8100 specs reveal Snapdragon 888-like performance

[ad_1]

According to recent reports, MediaTek won’t be pushing its flagship campaign solely with the Dimensity 9000. While the chipset was made to compete with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in the premium flagship segment, the brand also has something else for cost-effective flagships. The Dimensity 1200 drew attention due to its performance and affordability. So MediaTek still wants to offer something at this level. As per the rumors, the company will unveil a Dimensity 8100 SoC that will serve as a spiritual successor for the Dimensity 1100 and Dimensity 1200. However, it will still be miles around in terms of performance and efficiency.

Today, the reliable Chinese leakster, Digital Chat Station has revealed some of the key specifications of MediaTek’s upcoming Dimensity 8100 SoC. A second post from him, also confirms that the SoC will make its arrival in March through a Redmi smartphone. Apparently, even Realme will use this SoC on its upcoming Realme GT Neo3, but this is just a rumor for now.

MediaTek Dimensity 8100 specs

In terms of specifications, the MediaTek Dimensity 8100 uses the TSMC’s 5 nm manufacturing process. To those unaware, this has been the processor used in most of 2021 flagship chipsets. It’s beyond the Dimensity 1200 and Dimensity 1100 6 nm manufacturing process. Moreover, it offers compatibility with the modern LDDR5 RAM memory and UFS 3.1 storage. In terms of cores, the processor will pack four ARM Cortex-A78 cores clocked at up to 2.85 GHz and 4 x ARM Cortex-A55 cores clocked at up to 2.0 GHz. When it comes to the GPU department, there is some discrepancy. The software detects it as a G610 MC6 GPU. However, the leakster says that the GPU is actually a Mali G510 MC6.

MediaTek Dimensity 2000

The MediaTek Dimensity 8100 seems to be a reasonable option over the Snapdragon 888. Offering the same level of performance, possibly for a lower price tag. The GPU department probably will be the Achilles Heel. For example, the Dimensity 98000 while offering the same architecture still falls when compared to the Adreno 730. However, the leakster says that the GFX Bench ES 3.0 Manhattan test results are around 170 frames per second. It puts the GPU in the same category as the Adreno 660 on the Snapdragon 888 and 888 Plus from the last year. Of course, we’ll take a better conclusion once the chipset actually debuts through a smartphone.

Rumors say that the Dimensity 8100 is the final name for the rumored Dimensity 7000 SoC that we’ve been hearing since December. The chipset was later renamed Dimensity 8000. Now, it reached the last revision and won’t get a new rebranding. We will know all details soon, as MediaTek will likely make an announcement ahead of any phone’s launch.
