The mission to boldly go where no Kerbal has gone before has, like many a NASA launch, been scrubbed a couple of times. The sequel to the game that brought orbital physics to the masses (never thought I would write those words did I?) was originally penned in for a release back in 2020, but then again, a lot of things were supposed to happen in 2020…and 2021 until our microscopic overlords took over the planet.
The Kerbals however have no such pandemic on their planet so what’s their excuse for being late?
Kerbal Space Program 2 release date
You could think without the correct insight that worryingly there has not been much information since the last news post on the devs official site for Kerbal 2 in June 2020. However, despair not as that site has just stopped being updated and the devs have been actively carrying on updating via a new site. it’s still not exactly awash with new information but the date at least says 2022.
Thankfully the forums are hugely active with developer updates and general chat from fans of the game. With all that said and done, we simply have no concrete release date yet with many speculating the game could arrive as late as December this year, while others are hoping for a summer release.
The official Steam page currently lists the game as “coming soon” – you can wishlist it here should you want to.
As soon as things are tightened up we will update this page.
What is Kerbal Space Program 2?
In the words of the devs: “With the original Kerbal Space Program having become one of the most beloved games of all time and now bigger than ever, Kerbal Space Program 2 has been fully redesigned from the ground up to meet the demands of modern and next-generation space exploration, all while maintaining the monumental foundations of the first game. Build a space program, construct powerful spacecraft, design resource-gathering colonies, and much more to uncover the secrets of the galaxy. A plethora of exciting new features will captivate veteran and returning players, as well as usher in a whole new wave of Kerbonauts to the ingenious and comedic world that has entertained millions of players.
Kerbal Space Program 2 trailer
All we have seen really is a pretty glamorous launch trailer that can’t fail to leave you excited if you played (and killed your Kerbals repeatedly) in the first game.
How will Kerbal Space Program 2 be different?
We already know that the devs plans for KSP2 are pretty grand. They have been unveiling their plans in regular video updates like the one below which tells us about how they are planning on structuring the Kerbal Universe in the sequel.
