Making dyes in Minecraft is a mostly simple process since the majority of colors only require a simple, one-item crafting recipe. However, this means that it can be quite confusing when there are colors that don’t work this way – and green is one of those colors. So how do you make green dye in Minecraft?
Tried to pop a Cactus or Sea Pickle into a Crafting Table expecting to see its relative dye appear on the right hand side, just to left confused and disappointed when it didn’t? I’m guessing so, and I’m guessing that’s why you’re here. Well, unfortunately, these two items require a slightly different method to get the desired output, but the good news is it’s almost as easy.
How to make green dye in Minecraft
In order to make green dye in Minecraft, you have to smelt cactus in a furnace. This is the only way to get green dye, as you cannot get it from mixing others. However, all you need is a furnace and fuel (coal, charcoal, sticks etc), two things that most Minecraft survival players have to hand, as well as the aforementioned cactus, in order to obtain green dye.
Thankfully, cactus is pretty easy to come by, as long as you have access to a badlands or desert biome in your Minecraft world. From just one piece of cactus, you can actually farm more, as it will grow naturally over time when planted on sand.
How to make lime green dye in Minecraft
Lime dye works in much the same way when you are trying to make it from Sea Pickles, simply smelt a Sea Pickle to create lime dye. Sea Pickles are easy to gather if you’re near a warm ocean, and – as they are a light source – you can even see them easily. They can also be farmed. By using a Sea Pickle underwater, the number of sea pickles on that block will increase to a maximum of three, at which point they will then grow on nearby blocks.
Thankfully, though, if you can’t find any Sea Pickles, you can craft Lime Dye from Green Dye and White Dye, which is simply crafted from Bone Meal, as Lily of the Valley flowers.
