Just as we gave you our top five legendary weapons for Horizon Forbidden West we now turn our mind to protecting yourself with some of the best armor in the game.
In this game, there is one set of armor that is head and shoulders above the rest and that is the Oseram Artificer but there are also other legendary armors in Horizon Forbidden West that are definitely also worth owning. Let’s a have a look at what they are and where to obtain ’em.
How to get Oseram Artificer Armor in Horizon Forbidden West
To get your grubby paws on the best armor set in the game will involve completing a side quest that begins pretty close to the game’s beginning.
Just after leaving Barren Light, you will encounter a contractor looking to make the best armor in the world for a competition. Sounds handy, wonder if you could help out there? Obviously, like any quest in any RPG, the characters doling them out never seem to actually lift a finger themselves. Does nobody do anything anymore? They just sit there waiting for you to bring stuff back to them while you do as commanded and risk your life. Something needs to change…
Anyway, I digress, the contractor will give you a list of items to get for him. This however merely opens up a door to a collection of other contractors all wanting the competition win for themselves and you will end up fulfilling a lot of other requests for gear as well. This is no short side mission, unfortunately.
The other contractors are located as follows:
- Southwest of Barren Light
- Northeast of Scalding Spear
- East of Thornmarsh
- Northwest of Hidden Ember
Once you have spent a good while sorting all this out the story will progress (no spoilers) but you will end up with the legendary Oseram Artificer which is the best melee armor in the game and can be upgraded further five times. In short, you want to get hold of this. While a bit of a pain in the ass to go through all the quest objectives, it is well worth having.
Horizon Forbidden West Legendary Armor
While the Oseram Artificer is undoubtedly the best armor in Horizon Forbidden West there are other legendary sets you should consider, especially if you are not necessarily a player who concentrates on melee combat exclusively. Let’s have a lot at another three options.
Carja Stalker Elite
The best armor bar none if playing the Trapper game is for you. Providing extra traps as well as giving you extra on Quick Trapper which allows you to speed things up when it comes to crafting and laying traps
Where to find Carja Stalker Elite
Can be purchased from merchants at the Arena for 54 Arena Medals. To get Arena Medals you need to complete the challenges within a time limit.
Nora Thunder Warrior
Concentration and stamina are the key buffs for this Hunter-specific Legendary armor set. It also looks pretty cool on Aloy too. We wouldn’t;t mess with her if she turned up at a fancy dress party sporting this. Which reminds us, you might want to check out some of the best Horizon Forbidden West cosplay we have seen so far when you get a moment too.

Tenakth Vanquisher
Billed as a Survivor Legendary armor this is one that we might choose last. It’s still worth having but its buffs are mainly based around being useful when you are getting beaten up. We’d also suggest not getting beaten up in the first place. If your melee combat is not on point you might find it gets you out of a scrape or two, however..

Upgrading Armor in Horizon Forbidden West
All armor, even the Legendary sets can be upgraded a certain number of times (depending on the gear itself) at any workbench you find within the game.
