Gorou is a 4-star Geo Bow character who specialises as a Geo Support, and is available on the Character Event Wish, Epitome Invocation and Wanderlust Invocation Standard Banners. Keep reading to find out what materials are needed to Ascend Gorou, his best builds and an overview of how to use him effectively.
Gorou Ascension Stat
All characters in Genshin Impact have a particular stat that levels up alongside their base stats. For Gorou, this extra stat is Geo DMG Bonus. This will help his Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst a bit more DMG.
Gorou Ascension Materials
Once you have obtained Gorou and maxed him to Level 20, he can be further levelled up through Ascension. The materials you will need to Ascend Gorou are as follows:
Level 20 | Prithiva Topaz Sliver x 1 Sango Pearl x 3 Spectral Husk x 3 |
Level 40 | Prithiva Topaz Fragment x 3 Perpetual Heart x 2 Sango Pearl x 10 Spectral Husk x 15 |
Level 50 | Prithiva Topaz Fragment x 6 Perpetual Heart x 4 Sango Pearl x 20 Spectral Heart x 12 |
Level 60 | Prithiva Topaz Chunk x 3 Perpetual Heart x 8 Sango Pearl x 30 Spectral Heart x 18 |
Level 70 | Prithiva Topaz Chunk x 6 Perpetual Heart x 12 Sango Pearl x 45 Spectral Nucleus x 12 |
Level 80 | Prithiva Topaz Gemstone x 6 Perpetual Heart x 20 Sango Pearl x 60 Spectral Nucleus x 24 |
Prithiva Topaz Slivers, Fragments, Chunks and Gemstones can be obtained by defeating the Geo Hypostasis, located in Liyue.
Perpetual Hearts can be obtained by defeating the Perpetual Mechanical Array, located in Inazuma.
Sango Pearls are located on Watatsumi Island in Inazuma. Keep an eye out for the pink shell clusters!
Spectral Husks, Hearts and Nucleuses can by obtained by defeating Spectres, which can be found roaming Watatsumi Island, Seirai Island and Tsurumi Island, Inazuma.
Gorou Talent Materials
Gorou’s Talent Materials are as follows:
• Spectral Husk
• Spectral Heart
• Spectral Nucleus
• Teachings of light
• Guide to Light
• Philosophies of Light
• Molten Moment
The Teachings, Guide and Philosophies of Light can be obtained by completing the Domain of Mastery: Thundering Valley every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. Meanwhile, the Molten Moment is a potential drop from the Weekly Boss La Signora.
Gorou Best Weapons
Since Gorou is a pure support, he only has a few weapons that benefit him:
Elegy For The End | 5-star |
Favonius Warbow | 4-star |
Sacrificial Bow | 4-star |
Gorou’s best in slot is generally the 4-star Favonius Warbow. It has a nice Energy Recharge substat to help keep his Burst up, and also has the potential to give extra Energy when he scores a CRIT hit. However, the Sacrificial Bow can be used on him if you don’t have the Favonius Warbow, since it also has an Energy Recharge substat. If you have it, the Elegy for the End can also work on Gorou, since it also has a good amount of Energy Recharge, as well as a passive which buffs your team.
Gorou Best Artifacts
Gorou works best with either 2-Piece Emblem of Severed Fate and 2-Piece Husk of Opulent Dreams, or 4-Piece Husk of Opulent Dreams. The two 2-pieces will increase Gorou’s Energy Recharge and DEF%, which is useful if you don’t have enough Energy to use his Burst on cooldown, if you do, 4-Piece is your best choice. This set will give plenty of DEF% for his buffs to scale off of, as well as additional Geo DMG Bonus to increase the DMG of his Skill and Burst. You could also give Gorou 4-Piece Noblesse Oblige if you don’t have another Noblesse user on your team.
Alternatively, if you don’t have a 4-Piece Noblesse Oblige user on your team, you can use it on Gorou. However, generally this build isn’t as beneficial as the previously mentioned builds.
For low-level players, 2-Piece Defender’s Will and 2-Piece The Exile work well until you’re able to get higher level Artifacts.
For your Artifact main stats, you will want to run:
Sands | DEF% / Energy Recharge |
Goblet | DEF% |
Circlet | DEF% / CRIT Rate |
You’ll only want to use a CRIT Rate Circlet if Gorou is using the Favonius Warbow. In terms of Artifact substats, you’ll want to focus on DEF%, Energy Recharge and both CRIT DMG and CRIT Rate.
How to use Gorou
His Elemental Skill, Inuzaka All-Round Defence, deals AoE Geo DMG and sets up a General’s War Banner. General’s War Banner provides up to 3 buffs to active characters within the skill’s AoE based on the number of Geo characters in the party at the time of casting: 1 Geo character: Adds “Standing Firm” – DEF Bonus. 2 Geo characters: Adds “Impregnable” – Increased resistance to interruption. 3 Geo characters: Adds “Crunch” – Geo DMG Bonus. Gorou can deploy only 1 General’s War Banner on the field at any one time. Characters can only benefit from 1 General’s War Banner at a time. When a party member leaves the field, the active buff will last for 2s.
Her Elemental Burst, Juuga: Forward Onto Victory, deals Aoe Geo DMG and creates a field known as General’s Glory to embolden his comrades. This field has the following properties: Like the General’s War Banner created by Inuzaka All-Round Defense, provides buffs to active characters within the skill’s AoE based on the number of Geo characters in the party. Also moves together with your active character. Generates 1 Crystal Collapse every 1.5s that deals AoE Geo DMG to 1 opponent within the skill’s AoE. Pulls 1 elemental shard in the skill’s AoE to your active character’s position every 1.5s (elemental shards are created by Crystallize reactions). If a General’s War banner created by Gorou currently exists on the field when his ability is used, it will be destroyed. In addition, for the duration of General’s Glory, Gorou’s Elemental Skill “Inazuka All-Round Defense” will not create the General’s War Banner. If Gorou falls, the effects of General’s Glory will be cleared.
Gorou fulfills a niche role as a Support specifically for characters who scale off DEF and Geo characters, with his buffs becoming more valuable the more Geo characters there are on your team. For this reason, he’s the most useful when paired with Itto or Noelle, who act as the Main DPS, and one other Geo character as an additional support and Sub-DPS; this could be Zhongli, Albedo or Ningguang. Your final slot on this team will likely be a healer, so Kokomi, Jean, Barbara or Diona are all good choices. All Gorou needs to do is use his Skill and Burst as and when they are available, and your DPS characters will do the rest!
