Fallout 4 is the latest mainline game in the Fallout series, and like so many Bethesda games, it’s packed full of different stuff to do and new characters to meet. Even with the wealth of content in the game, you’re going to get bored of it eventually if you’ve played it enough. On that note, did you know that you can spice up the game a bit by using console commands? You can do everything from filling your pockets with powerful items to summoning different armies to fight each other for your amusement.
Another common element of Bethesda titles is that they have an insane number of console commands. Even if we had all the time in the world it would be nearly impossible to share all of the console commands with you, so you can consider this just a taster course for now. Either way, read on to discover how to take control of Fallout 4 with console commands.
How to use the Console in Fallout 4
Accessing the console in Fallout 4 shouldn’t be too tough. You can press the ` (grave) key underneath escape, or the ~ (tilde) key above the right shift and it should just pop straight up. If it doesn’t, try the ‘ (apostrophe) key, but otherwise, you’re a bit stuck, as there is no way to map the console key for yourself.
Useful Console Commands in Fallout 4
There is a mental amount of different console commands for you to try out, so to make things a bit easier we’ve put some of the most useful commands in the sections below.
Fallout 4 Console Commands Stats
Since it’s an RPG, changing your character stats can have a huge impact on the way that the game works for you. If you want to adjust your SPECIAL stats or even your morality, you can use the following command:
player.SetValue [attribute] [level]
player.GetValue [attribute]
The first command will let you increase and decrease your various values, while the second will report what a value is currently set to. That second one is important for more hidden metrics like your heal rate which is a bit vaguer than your SPECIAL scores. Below is a chart with the names you’ll need to use in the attribute section:
Attribute Name | Command Name |
Strength | strength |
Perception | perception |
Endurance | endurance |
Charisma | charisma |
Intelligence | intelligence |
Agility | agilty |
Luck | luck |
Health | health |
Carry Weight | carryweight |
Action Points | actionpoints |
Heal Rate | healrate |

Invisibility (1 = on, 0 = off) | Invisibility |
Spawn Items Fallout 4 Console Commands
Another great trick you can pull off in Fallout 4 is spawning items and resources with the console. Most of the time, you’ll be using this sort of thing to give yourself a ton of ammo or money, but you can also use it to get your hands on some of the rarer weapon and armor sets in the game. You can use the basic format below to help you spawn stuff:
player.additem [itemID] [number]
help ["search term"]
You can use the list below to get the ID for some of the more commonly spawned items in the game, but you can use the second search listed above (the help command) to search for item IDs if you can’t find them on the list. Just type in help, followed by what you’re looking for inside of two quote marks and the console will list the ItemIDs for everything that matches. You can scroll using page up and page down if the list is too big.
Item Name | ItemID |
Bottlecap | 0000000f |
Stimpak | 00023736 |
