Another big game developer studio was acquired as Bungie – the developer behind the Destiny series, the original Halo game, as well as older titles such as Marathon, Myth, Oni is now part of Sony Interactive Entertainment. The deal is valued at $3.6 billion and Bungie CEO Pete Parsons confirmed that his team will “continue to independently publish and creatively develop our games”.
In a separate blog post, the game studio confirmed that Desitny 2 will remain a multi-platform game available on both PlayStation and Xbox and this should be the case with future game releases.
Bungie was founded in 1991 and is credited with revolutionizing first-person shooter (FPS) games and was once a part of Microsoft and later Activision. The game studio has been independent since 2019 and has found success with its Destiny franchise. The Sony acquisition comes just two weeks after Microsoft announced it’s acquiring Activision Blizzard for a whopping $68.7 billion.
