Does the ASUS ROG SWIFT PG42UQ have a release date?
At the time of writing this, there is no official release date set in stone for the ASUS PG42UQ. However, we have reached out to ASUS asking for potential updates on the matter – with best estimates speculating a release sometime this year.
On the plus side, we do know exactly what to expect from the ASUS PG42UQ, with plenty of the core features and specifications leaked during its CES 2022 announcement.
ASUS ROG SWIFT PG42UQ specifications
Despite the PG42UQ featuring a tonne of high-end specs, the one feature that has got many fans excited is the OLED panel found at the center of this impressive display.
If you’re new to the world of display technology, OLED panels are some of the best out there – providing impressive color reproduction, perfect blacks, infinite contrast ratios, and stunning HDR performance.
That being said, don’t get OLED panel technology mixed up with QD-OLED (seen in the recently announced Alienware AW3423DW) – a newly engineered technology that will combine the qualities of both Quantum Dot and OLED.
Don’t let that put you off though, OLED panel manufacturers have been improving the standards of OLED for some time now – with LG displays distributing Evo OLED panels in their flagship C2 and G2 TVs.
Performance
Back to the PG42UQ, users can expect fantastic color accuracy thanks to a wide 98% DCI-P3 color gamut. Additionally, a 4K screen resolution is expected alongside true 10-bit color – making for a very versatile display indeed. Whether you’re gaming, watching movies, or just browsing the web, this monitor should look absolutely fantastic.
As far as gaming performance is concerned, users should expect all the latest high-end features. ASUS will be equipping the PG42UQ with HDMI 2.1 functionality – allowing for the support of 4K @120Hz gameplay in both PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles. As you’d expect, the panel also feature VRR (variable refresh rate) and ALLM technologies for a smooth, tear-free gaming experience.
Like many OLED panels, the response time on the PG42UQ is expected to be near perfect (with estimates of 0.1ms not out of the question). Due to the nature of the OLED’s design, it isn’t unrealistic to expect near-instantaneous pixel response from this monitor – something that has already been displayed in the hugely impressive LG C1 OLED TV.
As we’ve already eluded to, the PG42UQ will feature a 120Hz refresh rate and will come in two core sizes – 42″ and 48″. For this particular panel, ASUS will be launching a Micro-texture coating (instead of a traditional glossy option) to help alleviate some of the annoying daytime reflections that plague glossy panels.
Finally, thanks to a custom cooling solution that ASUS has been working on, the company state that burn-in should be much less likely – with operating temperatures residing at around 60%.
ASUS PG42UQ potential pricing
So, how much is this puppy gonna cost? Well, out of the gate you’d have to say that it will almost certainly breach the $1,000 mark. Due to OLED panel technology, 4K @120Hz support, and a list of other premium features, the PG42UQ will likely retail for north of $1,400.
It will likely go toe-to-toe with the LG C2 TVs – which also feature 42″ and 48″ variants – bringing more game-tailored PC features to the table.

Should you wait to buy the ASUS ROG SWIFT PG42UQ monitor?
If you’re the sort of person who likes to play both console and PC games (as well as enjoying other forms of content) then the ASUS ROG SWIFT PG42UQ could be right up your street.
Granted, this is a big room gaming monitor and will likely go head-to-head with top-performing TVs such as the LG C2 and Sony A75K. That being said, ASUS will likely tailor many of the internal OSD features to PC gamers, giving it a slight edge for those that prioritize PC gaming over console.
