The newly announced Acer Predator Helios 300 SpatialLabs Edition release date for later in 2022 has us intrigued to see what Acer has brought to the table with the next generation of their 3D SpatialLabs technology. First introduced on laptops in 2021 on earlier iterations of the Acer Predator Helios 300 SE, Spatial Labs displays can effectively display 3D footage without the need for 3D glasses, making them ideal 3D animation laptops, and also one of the few devices capable of running the 50+ 3D games that support it. Read below for everything we know so far about the MSRP and Acer Predator Helios 300 SE release date, plus a breakdown of the specifications.
Acer Predator Helios 300 SpatialLabs Edition specs
Announced alongside the less powerful Acer Predator Triton 300 SE (with max RTX 3070 Ti laptop GPU), which comes in 14-inch and 16-inch flavors, the Acer Predator Helios 300 SpatialLabs Edition appears to be 15.6″ only at the present time. The new laptop comes with ‘up to 12th Gen Intel Core i9 processors’ but we’re not sure yet exactly which i9 CPU represents the top spec, nor what cheaper options will be available (i7 models etc.). Looking at the graphics card, the TGP of the RTX 3080 laptop GPU is unknown at this point. Acer hasn’t historically been known for packing the most high-voltage graphics cards in their laptops, so we’re keen to see if the Acer Predator Helios 300 SE bucks this trend.
Of course the main feature of this laptop which makes it stand out from the crowd is the 3D capable display. The tech here is rather complicated, so we’ll let Acer do the talking:
“The SpatialLabs experience is created through the combination of an eye-tracking solution, a stereoscopic 3D display and real-time rendering technologies. The display of the Predator Helios 300 SpatialLabs Edition gaming laptop consists of a 15.6-inch UHD 2D panel with a liquid crystal lenticular lens optically bonded on top of it, together forming an innovative module that can be switched back and forth between 2D and stereoscopic 3D views.”
Unfortunately, the refresh rate of this wondrous display is capped at 60Hz, which Acer has said is a limitation of the technology and the power needs it demands on a machine of this size. Acer did assure us though in their presentation that the experience of 3D 60Hz stereoscopic technology looks and feels a lot smoother than the 2D equivalent, and urged people to try before they buy to see for themselves.
We don’t yet have any information on the dimensions and weight of the laptop, for those interested in its portability, nor do we know if it will come some an SD card reader (micro or full-size) which would be ideal for creatives. As soon as we do get these details we will update the below table accordingly.
