Let’s start at a very good place to start – the end. Wait, that’s not right. But that’s where I’ll start nonetheless. You see, my feelings upon reaching the end of the short Flawless Abbey review demo sum up my opinion so far… I didn’t want it to end. This stunning, ethereal, dream-like journey to – and through – the Abbey is almost addictive. And I want more.
What is Flawless Abbey?
Flawless Abbey is a gorgeous, hand-painted fairytale adventure based on themes like music, art and dreams. Starting Flawless Abbey, you are sitting in the audience – well, you single-handedly make up the audience – at a play. The play, told with paper dolls, reveals a story of an Abbey built by a band of heroes, but was razed to the ground by a terrifying dragon. As the play ends, you find yourself in a mysterious train carriage with an endless sky outside, and your part in this tale begins.
To be honest, I’ve still not played enough of the story to actually know what’s going on. The early stages of the game reveal who you are, Penn Sveelar, and that you are a Dreamseeker, partaking in something called a Plunge. Though, what that is, we don’t really know yet. What we do know is that this isn’t the first time we’ve been through this process, but we seem to have forgotten everything – almost like we’ve been reset. Upon completing a “calibration” puzzle on the train, you enter the Abbey itself, and more puzzles will take you on a journey through the Abbey to meet its Abbess, Aurora.
That’s as far as we know of the game so far, but it’s enough to have me intrigued, and eager to play more. I also found that playing Flawless Abbey in a slightly darker room improved the experience, as this provided a better atmosphere for the dark, kaleidoscopic, stained-glass-inspired artwork that makes Flawless Abbey so unique.
Flawless Abbey release date
Flawless Abbey is still in its early stages, and there is no release date just yet. However, we’ll be sure to update you as soon as developer Bed Head Games announces when Flawless Abbey will be available to play in full. In the meantime, you can always wishlist Flawless Abbey on Steam, and you’ll know you’ll get notified when there’s more news.
