Last Updated:

Want to know if Starfield laptop gaming is possible on your current machine? Sick of asking the question ‘What is the best laptop for Starfield?‘ and hearing ‘a desktop’? Then read on for more information.

The Starfield release date is a way away yet, but it’s always useful to know if your hardware can run the game well ahead of time, or if you will need to buy a new machine, in a Black Friday laptop deal for instance. Have a read below for the latest info on the Starfield system requirements, and some suggestions on the best gaming laptops to run the game on.

What we know about Starfield

Starfield is (incredibly) the first original RPG titles from Bethesda in 25 years. A semi-realistic Sci-Fi game focused on exploration, the game is set three-hundred years from now in the so-called ‘Settled Systems’, an area of space 100 light-years in diameter around 50 light-years around our solar system that humanity has managed to settle. Two major factions in the game include the United Colonies and the Freestar Collective, who are in the middle of an uneasy truce. Besides this, players will have to contend with pirates, religious fanatics, and all manner of hazardous oddities.

Starfield recommended specifications (desktop)

There aren’t any official Starfield system requirements out yet (keep an eye on an update to this page or the official Starfield Steam page for when they release), but below we’ve gathered together the latest information we do have to make the best estimates as to what setup you’ll need.

Below are the latest estimates of the system requirements for Starfield to play the game at 1080p resolution on a desktop PC. Generally speaking, gaming laptop graphics cards are underpowered compared to their desktop components, and so if you’re looking to play the game on a laptop you’ll need to add a bit more on top. Higher resolutions will require more powerful components. See below for some of our suggestions. Note that the minimum system requirements are the bare minimum needed to run the game, and it usually won’t be an enjoyable experience playing on this level of hardware – we’d advise aiming for as close to the recommended system specs as possible within your budget. For more detail on the desktop requirements, read our Starfield system requirements page.

Playing Starfield at 4K on high settings, as with any game at this resolution, will require a very powerful and pricey machine, particularly when it comes to buying a laptop. If you want to play Starfield at 4K on a laptop, our advice is to go for the ASUS Zephyrus S17 with RTX 3080. With a 120Hz 4K display, this is the best option for a 4K gaming laptop, and has the power and refresh rate to actually make gaming at such a high resolution worthwhile, though it is pricey. Alternatively, you may also want to consider the 144Hz Razer Blade 17 with 4K display, though this is even more pricey and doesn’t pack the same high TGP core components.
