Wondering how to defeat Starscourge Radahn in Elden Ring? Many people have wondered the same. It’s said that Starscourge Radahn is cursed to eternally be eaten from the inside by Scarlet Rot – but that doesn’t mean the frustration at trying to beat him should eat you up inside either!
This boss encounter is required to unlock a specific ending of Elden Ring. However, you don’t technically have to beat Radahn to finish the game.
Players who thoroughly investigate the Caelid zone of Elden Ring are likely to come to find Redmane Castle. Several warriors from the Lands Between may be seen here preparing for a unique warrior’s festival honoring the joy of fighting. The “festival” is an opportunity to face the legendary Great Rune bearer Starscourge Radahn, who blindly wanders a neighboring battlefield after succumbing to Scarlet Rot.
While Starscourge Radahn is one of the most challenging monsters in the game, you can defeat him with enough patience, practice, and clever strategies. Here’s a detailed explanation of the Starscourge Radahn boss battle and how you can beat him as quickly as possible.
Can you summon NPCs for the Scarscourge Radahn fight?
The Starscourge Radahn boss battle is unusual in that you may call a large number of NPCs at once.
You can even call them all at the start of the fight when the monster is far away. In the beginning, there will be three summon signs directly in front of you, followed by one to the left and one to the right. Summon them all, but keep a watch out for the boss. Radahn will shoot arrows at you, which you may escape by rolling at the proper time.
Sadly, all of the NPCs will die at some time. However, they can be summoned again shortly after that. Just keep an eye out for their summoning signals on the ground nearby, and they’ll resume the fight. There is no limit to how many times they may be summoned, so don’t be concerned about permanently losing any of them.
Allow the NPCs to take the blows as you sneak up behind the monster and slash at his legs continually. Its assaults are lethal, sweeping the ground beneath its feet or gliding down the surface, waiting for the opportune chance. You can perish instantly if you are caught up in a combination. As a result, play it carefully and retreat when necessary for healing.
However, whilst the NPCs you’ll summon throughout this boss fight will not give additional health to Radahn, summoning additional players for this battle is not advised because they increase Starscourge Radahn’s already massive HP bar even more. In this battle, summoning additional players also prohibits you from utilizing Torrent.
General Tips and Tricks to Beating Starscourge Radahn in Elden Ring
These general hints and information will assist you in preparing for and strategising for the confrontation with Starscourge Radahn:
- Radahn is highly vulnerable to the Bleed condition effect. Use any weapons that apply Bleed or items that can enhance your weapon with Bleed damage
- Strength builds can make good use of a greatshield in this battle, as you’ll be able to block many of Radahn’s blows. Blocking using other forms of shields is a terrible idea because Radahn’s attacks deal a lot of stamina damage
- Radahn can be stunned if you and your teammates strike him quickly. When this happens, dash to his head and execute a vital riposte
- For this battle, bind your Spectral Steed Whistle to your hotbar. Torrent is highly recommended for specific areas of this encounter, so you’ll need to be able to jump on and off him rapidly
Steps to beating Starscourge Radahn in Elden Ring
What level should I be before facing Starscourge Radahn?
Level 75 is recommended to be properly prepared for this battle.
Phase One of Starscourge Radahn Boss Fight
When you enter the conflict and begin Phase 1, you’ll be on the outskirts of a battlefield, far from Radahn’s location in the middle. Here’s how to get through the first stage of this fight…
- Begin racing towards Radahn while triggering the visible golden NPC summon signals. This is how you gather all of the NPCs that want to battle Radahn for the “festival.” They’ll take blows for you and do a lot of small damage to Radahn, so summoning them is critical
- Radahn will shoot you with purple arrows, so dodge roll through them. These are quite damaging and will hit you off if you’re on Torrent, so stay on foot for the time being
- When Radahn shoots arrows into the sky, hop on Torrent and start riding to the left while still going ahead. These arrows will fall from the sky and follow you quicker than you can run away on foot from them
- When Radahn starts shooting many arrows at you, circle around the base of the hill Radahn is standing on. You don’t want to come too near, or the arrows will strike you
- Get off Torrent and rush towards Radahn as he starts firing purple arrows again. You need to get back on your feet so you can avoid the arrows
- Avoid Radahn’s massive melee strikes as much as possible, focusing on his legs when possible. Your summons will frequently divert Radahn’s attention, enabling you to land some safe blows on him
- Run behind Radahn if he performs a purple gravity attack to draw you in front of him. His follow-up area-of-effect strike will miss you, and you’ll get a chance to harm him with a couple of attacks after that
- When Radahn reaches roughly 50% health, he will soar into the air. Look up into the sky and listen out for him right away
- After a few seconds, Radahn will crash into the earth, causing a massive explosion that you must avoid. You have a higher chance of avoiding being struck if you dodge towards where Radahn falls, although rolling away from him may still catch you in the explosion’s extended damage radius
Radahn will enter Phase 2 of the battle after this assault.
Phase Two of Starscourge Radahn Boss Fight
Now that you’ve knocked the monster’s health down to the halfway point, Starscourge Radahn will return to Earth as a massive fireball.
After this attack, carry on as before now Radahn is back in the battle. Allow the NPCs to be its primary focus and swipe at its legs to cause further damage. There’s a potential for a critical strike if you can shatter its Poise.
Radahn’s second phase is similar to his first, except he has a few new attacks, and all of them inflict more significant damage. Here’s how to deal with it.
- Get on Torrent and ride about the nearby region, utilising the new summon signs to resurrect any summons that have been slain. These signs will return indefinitely, so make sure you use them to invite NPCs regularly.
- Get off of Torrent and re-engage Radahn in melee battle. It’s worth noting that Radahn also uses magical assaults, casting spells at you. Most attacks are easily avoided, but keep an eye out for when it casts elemental magic on its swords. This increases damage, putting you at more risk
- Radahn will occasionally strike you with a flurry of little energy balls. Make an effort to avoid them as they can’t be stopped completely. These energy balls stun you and deal a tonne of damage, and if all of them hit you, they may easily kill you in one blow, which would be pretty annoying at this stage!
- Radahn may also summon four magical meteors and fire them at you in volleys of two after a while. If you get struck, these will one-shot you, so pay particular attention to them. It’s worth noting that as long as you stay close to Radahn, he won’t hurl them at you
- Radahn may occasionally soar into the air and attempt to fly into you multiple times. It is possible to withstand this move by blocking. However evading with a well-timed roll is safer and more effective
- As a creature of comfort, Radahn may potentially use his skyfall attack again. Avoid it in the same way you avoided it at the conclusion of Phase 1
- Attack Radahn as frequently as it’s safe to do so in between his actions. Radahn’s moveset is chaotic and tough to avoid, so you should strive to knock him down as quickly as possible to minimise the possibility of making a mistake
You and your NPC summons will finally beat Radahn if you keep the pressure on him and dodge his most lethal strikes. Maintain your focus and patience, and triumph will be yours very shortly!
