KUKA HOME, one of the world’s largest producers of upholstered furniture, has enhanced its vertically integrated business model with the launch of the K-TRON motion mechanism division.

Capable of producing one million units per year, the 150,000-square-foot K-TRON facility is based near KUKA HOME’s global headquarters in Hangzhou, China and will exclusively supply mechanisms for the KUKA HOME motion upholstery line.

“Producing our own mechanisms creates a stronger vertically integrated structure that will have several benefits to retailers,” said Matt Harrison, President of KUKA HOME North America. “Benefits include shorter lead times for our motion products, better quality control, since everything is managed by one company, and the ability to mitigate price increases from suppliers.”

“In 2019, our motion division invested heavily in research to begin developing our own mechanisms.  We started stamping mechanisms last year to improve the quality and competitiveness of KUKA HOME’s motion upholstery,” Harrison said. KUKA HOME has one of the industry’s largest selections of stationary and motion upholstery products.

The name K-TRON is pronounced “Kaichuang” which translates to “innovate.”

Automated equipment in the mechanism facility allows for production efficiencies and increased manufacturing capacity, with 7 production lines producing over 5,000 units per day. The smooth reclining mechanisms offer motion functionality for manual and power upholstery including 6” high-leg mechanisms, full-length metal rail mechanisms and zero wall distance designs.
