I have been using calculators all my life from a Monroe, Canon and Sharp and still prefer the Sharp brand. What I’ve noticed about the EL-1801V is there are two variations of the same model. This Amazon choice DOES NOT HAVE THE DATE/TIME feature used to set the tax rate. This means this Amazon model also uses no replaceable battery on the underside to store tax rates. I see no need for the calendar and clock as they’re more of a pain to use so no big deal. The TAX RATE is easily stored by a sequence of C/CE presses in lieu of the calendar/clock button. This seems like a major improvement requiring fewer buttons to use setting the tax rate and not worrying about battery power (why require a battery when it’s plugged in the AC outlet in the first place)?This little gem has so many important features like a smaller footprint for desk use. Yes, the speed is not as fast as many others with ribbon ink but this IS a smaller unit. If you need printer speed, never opt for ink rollers because the character wheel has to spin for each character unlike a fixed character striking a ribbon as typewriters do providing lightning fast response time.The tactile keys are the best in its class, way better than many others. Only a modest touch will render a response unlike some requiring a harder depression. The spacing of the keys for a smaller unit is as good as the large units. The bright fluorescent display is appealing. It is extremely lightweight. In fact the box was so light I thought it was empty! The plastic is taut and durable (as with all Sharp calculators) and not pliable like the cheaper Casio models.The only setback I have is with the AVERAGE feature. In order to use AVG, you must engage the printer feature. Often to save ink, paper and wear and tear on the print mechanism, I prefer using only the display. On this machine, AVG will only work using the PRINT option despite the incorrect example in the instruction manual.From the top view unlike other calculators, the fingerboard area is actually WIDER whereas the printer section towards the back is narrower since this does not require an ink ribbon. Still the overall footprint is amazing!

The instructions were very simple to understand. I wanted a simple calculator and easy to use and this fit the bill. It has more functions than I need but the price was great so I got it. I very happy with my purchase.

They need to have a picture of the keys with a name and description. Folded out manual with small print just does not work. I had to call Customer Service

I moved across the country last year. Having retired the year prior, I really didn’t think I would have use of my calculator any longer. So I donated it along with about 90% of what I owned. I’ve been in my new home for 8 months now and the ONE item I missed, and it was when I was getting my taxes together, was my calculator! So I bought a new one having had my old one for at least 15 years. It’s funny after a life acquiring so many things with a family that I haven’t missed anything I donated. Only my cakculatkr!
