The first Hogwarts Legacy reveal trailer dropped back in 2020, and many people have been waiting on tenterhooks for when the next Harry Potter inspired game will launch.
Now, we also have an official gameplay trailer to look at and the confirmation that the game is set to launch this year. Keep reading to find out everything we know, and bookmark this page, as we will be updating it whenever any more magical news comes out.
Release date
We don’t have any dates set in stone yet, although the latest trailer claims that the game will be coming in ‘Holiday 2022’, which we can assume means around the end of the year.
In a since-deleted tweet, leaker AccountNGT believes that the RPG will launch in September, although he did note that people should take what he says with a grain of salt.
There has been an additional announcement of a companion book for the game, which is supposedly called ‘The Art and Making of Hogwarts Legacy’. The book is expected to launch this year in September, although it wouldn’t be too surprising to see the book launch before the game does, so we will have to see.
Platforms
PlayStation recently uploaded a new blog post that reveals Hogwarts Legacy will be coming to the PlayStation 5 and the PlayStation 4.
The title will also be making its way over to the Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch and PC, meaning that pretty much everyone will have access to the game.
Trailers
The first Hogwarts Legacy trailer dropped in September 2020, which gave us a sneak peek at the environments and what the design of Hogwarts will be looking like.
Since the latest State of Play, which focused mostly on the next Hogwarts adventure, we got 14 minutes of footage, showing off some of the gameplay mechanics and what the world will look like in a lot more detail.
Gameplay
Hogwarts Legacy is an open-would RPG that will be set in Hogwarts, as well as surrounding areas such as Hogsmead and other hamlets that are littered throughout the neighbouring countryside. The forests will include fantastical beasts that vary in temperament, and if you’re lucky enough to capture one, there is an option to take it back to your school.
The latest gameplay trailer confirms that you will be able to build up your own character from scratch, with multiple options in terms of appearance and voice. You will also be able to pick your own Hogwarts house at the beginning of the game, so no one needs to worry about what the Sorting Hat really thinks about you.
During your time at Hogwarts, you’ll take on school lessons and learn various skills including spells, potion-crafting and dark-arts magic. You’ll then be able to use these abilities in the world. You’ll be able to engage in magic duels, that even allows you to kill opponents. You’ll also be able to fly on a broom to explore the vast world as a quick pace. We’re hoping for some Quidditch action, but this hasn’t been confirmed just yet.
The developers have made it clear that this game will be rooted in the Harry Potter universe, but it will be aiming to look at new aspects of the wizarding world so fans can get a fresh take on something that most people are all familiar with.
The main storyline of Hogwarts Legacy revolves around Professor Fig and a goblin rebellion, and we expect there will be plenty of smaller, side missions to get through.
Since the game is set in the 1800s, don’t expect any cameos from the more recent Harry Potter roster, although you may get a glimpse of some familiar ghostly apparitions.
