No Assembly and Minimal Maintenance

Pull the seat out and slip into the crosspieces at the bottom, have a seat and enjoy!

The wooden parts have been coated with an oil finish; the varnish makes the wood withstand whatever the elements may throw at it. The canvas is easy to dry if it gets wet and tough enough to withstand outdoor use.

We chose Keruing wood, a natural tree native to Southeast Asia, harvested through a sustainable government program. It’s durable and beautiful. Our Lounger chair has been finished with a rich, penetrating oil. Use it indoors or out. Depending on how extreme your outdoor conditions are, we recommend coating the wood with a penetrating oil once or twice a year to maintain the look.

High Quality Canvas

The Lounger Chair is covered in 100% heavy polyester duck canvas in attractive Forest Green or Natural Color. Duck canvas is a sturdy weave that will provide years of comfortable support.

Byer of Maine – Our History

It all started in 1880

Byer of Maine began as a maker of slippers and textile products. In the 1920s and 30s we continued refining our stitching operations while also branching out into metal stamping, and fortuitously enough, wooden cot production. When World War II happened, and later the Korean war, we were called upon to supply troops with a place to lay their heads. And we also doubled our efforts to cut and sew canvas supplies for the war effort. It was an honor.

Expansion of Wood Folding Furniture

Our wooden cot production evolved into a wide assortment of other wooden folding furniture such as chairs and tables. At the same time our line of folding cots expanded into several styles, and introduction of aluminum and steel frames

New products in the 90’s

In the late 1990s, we attended The Spoga Trade fair. There we met a young entrepreneur investing in authentic handmade Brazilian hammocks, and joined them to bring these wonderful hammocks to the American market. And just like that, we were in the Brazilian hammock business. In 2006 we continued to expand and created a beautiful line of birding products made of ceramic stoneware.

Surviving the 2000’s

Overseas competition brought drastic changes to the American marketplace. We quickly responded and carefully selected factories in Brazil, China, Vietnam, and Thailand. This allowed us to continue to write our 140 year long history of supplying quality products.

Wood camp chairs dimensions are 22″D x 17″W x 26″H, and holds up to 225lbs. The durable canvas can stretch a bit to accomodate larger bodies within the confines of the wood frame. It also folds up smaller than a cot and fits well packed in to a car or camper. Could be used in a canoe as a stool for an extended paddle. Best for day outings, use around a home or cabin, or camping from a car, trailer or camper.
