BLT cracker salad is a twist on an old classic. My grandmother served Southern tomato cracker salad every summer when the garden tomatoes became ripe. Tomato cracker salad is a classic Southern dish that has been around for many generations.
HOW IS BLT CRACKER SALAD DIFFERENT?
The traditional tomato cracker salad is a Southern classic. It’s primarily made with tomatoes, mayonnaise, onion, Saltine crackers, and just a few more ingredients. Think of the classic Southern tomato sandwich in a bowl. The BLT cracker salad is basically your classic BLT sandwich in a bowl. We also use Ritz crackers instead of Saltines. It adds a bit of a different texture and taste. We love it!
BLT CRACKER SALAD INGREDIENTS:
- Cherry tomatoes
- Red onion
- Cooked Bacon
- Shredded Lettuce
- Mayonnaise (we use Duke’s)
- Ritz Crackers
- Dill Weed
- Black Pepper
Recipe Notes:
In the traditional tomato cracker salad, many will add the crackers right before they serve it. This is because it’s made with fresh juicy tomatoes, and the juice will make the crackers soggy. This salad is a bit different since it’s made with cherry tomatoes. They aren’t nearly as juicy, so we always just add the crackers in when we make the salad and then chill it in the refrigerator for a bit. The Ritz crackers hold up fine, but you can certainly add them right before you serve it.
