Let me start by saying I was on the fence for months as to whether I should actually buy this Garage Door opener from MyQ. The reviews on Amazon were very mixed and I wasn’t too pleased that once I bought into this product, I would probably have to spend more. I will talk about that in a moment.I actually decided to make a purchase during Prime Day when the cost of this item sold for about $20 less than it regularly does. It seemed like an absolute bargain at that point. The installation was very simple. The mounting was a bit of a nightmare only because MyQ didn’t fully explain that process in their directions. The installation process is a breeze, thanks to the mobile app which does an excellent job of walking you through the process, complete with videos that make a novice like me an expert. You basically use the app to pair the base unit and the sensor. The sensor comes with two-sided tape and gets placed on the inside of your garage door. The problem I ran into was the screws. MyQ provides you with 2 different sized sets of screws. They don’t tell you that if you use the anchors, you must use the shorter screws. I used the longer ones. Now, I am sure most of you who are more handymen than I am probably could have figured that out on your own, but for someone not as mechanically inclined, it would have been nice for MyQ to give a better explanation of screw usage in their instruction manual. Once I undid the initial mistake, I was able to successfully mount the MyQ to my garage ceiling beam. One other note to make here: The mounting bracket is also a bit of a problem. You have to go through two sets of holes to drill in your screw. It’s a little cumbersome. I wish the bracket was designed a little better to make it easier. I am guessing this was the best MyQ could do. All in all, I am not taking any stars away in this review for the clunky install and bracket. I am guessing most of you who are more handymen orientated won’t have an issue. So, once installed, the garage opened and closed as expected using the remote. No issues there. The real nice surprise here was that, for the moment, MyQ is no longer charging people $10 a year to integrate MyQ with Google (and I think) Alexa. Previously, there was a subscription charge. That caused a huge amount of backlash from customers. I even swore I would not buy this product if a subscription was mandated. Well, for now, that subscription has been put on hold. You can get free integration for your smart device. Be aware that for the moment MyQ is saying this could be only temporary.Voice integration with Google Home Hub is not as fluent as you would hope. You can’t just say, “Hey Google, is my Garage Door open?” of “Hey Google, close my garage door.” You have to say, “Hey Google, ask MyQ if my Garage Door is Open.” I am not exactly happy about that extra step. Also, do realize that there are extra security measures put in place that prevent homeowners from giving smart devices opening commands. You can’t say, “Hey Google (or Alexa) open my Garage Door.” The reason behind this is so burglars can’t yell that command from outside your home in hopes of your smart device picking it up.HOWEVER….HOWEVER…HOWEVER…There is a new, free software workaround that allows you to open and close your garage door through Alexa (and probably Google) commands. You don’t need to buy the $15 kit. If you want more information you can reply to me in the comments. One other thing I need to mention here. If you want iOS/Homekit support you need to buy the additional $90 MyQ bridge. I found that aspect to be unfortunate as that add-on is severely overpriced. I will end up purchasing it just so that I can open and close my garage door using the new iOS 13 Carplay functionality which puts Homekit on your navigation screen. It would be great, as I arrive home to say, “Hey Siri, open my garage door.”So, bottom line: The MyQ garage door opener works great out of the box. Some of its smart home command functionality is limited, but there are workarounds.

I was looking for an alternative way to operate my Ryobi GDO remotely. Recently the Ryobi GDO app stopped working on my android phone. A Google search lead me to find the Chamberlin Smart Garage Control (MyQ) on Amazon and I decided to give it a try.The mounting for the MyQ devices wasn’t a problem. The instructions were easy to follow and the hardware installed easily. The problem came when trying to pair the MyQ hub to my Ryobi garage door opener. I messed with it for several hours and ran into a continued non-pairing issue. Obviously, Ryobi GDO wasn’t listed as one of the compatible Garage door openers. I kept trying using Liftmaster and Chamberlin as possible compatible types of door openers, but it didn’t work. So I went searching again and came across a post from someone on a internet posting site. That person mentioned that when he installed his MyQ hub device, he didn’t choose any of the manufacturers listed during the setup process. Instead, he chose “others” which was listed on the bottom of the MyQ hub setup page. So I reset the MyQ hub and tried again. This time, I found the “others” selection. I hadn’t scrolled down the page enough on prior attempts to notice it. This time it worked and the MyQ hub connected to my Ryobi GDO and opened the door. Another thing to know is that the MyQ app has a share feature, so you can allow someone you trust to have full remote access to your garage door. Now the only thing I have left to do is to try and operate my garage door from a remote location.I’m very pleased with this product!Update: I can now open my garage door remotely. I open the MyQ app and press the garage door button before turning onto my street. When I arrive home 20 to 30 seconds later, the garage door is open and I drive right in. For me, this works the way I want it.

I’ve been using the myQ Chamberlain Smart Garage Control for a few months now, and I’m really impressed with it. It’s a convenient and secure way to control my garage door from my smartphone, even though it doesn’t have Alexa integration. The myQ Chamberlain Smart Garage Control is a small, wireless device that connects to your existing garage door opener. We have two openers, one on each door. I installed a kit on the one to try it out. With a step ladder I had it running in maybe 15 minutes or less. Very simple. Had to access the learn button my opener, mounted the based to the ceiling as close to the router as possible. And the sensor screwed or taped(I screwed it) to the door on the upper right. You’d not notice it if you came in. It blends in well with a white door. Downloaded the app during install and now I can open or close the door from anywhere my phone has signal. It also shows door status open or closed. Great app and system. Our openers are not new either. Probably 15 or more years old. We purchased a whole second setup as it was cheaper and easier than getting just a door sensor. No issues, easier than the first one and works great. It beeps fairly loud when the door is going to close for safety, which is great with kids or older adults. Definitely covers the liability and security of both doors. Price was very reasonable considering the quality and ease of use/install.

Good instructions along with watching a You Tube video of the installation process made the work go quickly. I was initially having a wi-fi problem getting the equipment to link up with the MyQ app. so decided to bring the hub into the computer room, plug it in, and finish up the linking with my phone app and then took the hub and sensor to the garage for the installation and all went very well. It became almost as simple as plug & play. Works great. I installed this Smart Garage Control along with a new Liftmaster wall unit for openers with the older purple learning button. Enjoy having the automatic timer to shut the garage door and also having e-mail alerts every time the garage door opens or closes, courtesy of this Smart Control. The door sensor is battery powered and we get an alert when the battery is low, so another nice feature. The inexpensive quarter-size 3 volt battery (CR2450) should last a year or more and takes all of about two minutes to replace. Never thought I could get a 2009 model Liftmaster with a purple learning button to have all of the features of the newest wi-fi model Liftmaster. I do have a newer Liftmaster opener near this 2009 model and both now work identically. Great value for what is offered. Much less expensive and a lot less work than purchasing a new door opener with the MyQ features.

This product is so awesome! No complaints about how it’s working yet! It was super easy to install. I decided to put the main hub on the ceiling after following the instructions to pair it to sensor and garage door opener. It was super easy to setup following the instructions and works like a charm. My life has now completely changed! We feel so much safer and it’s so convenient. I started using KEY to get my Amazon packages and boy is that exciting! I’m like the king of the world!!!Although you have to use the My Q app (like we need another app), it connects to Alexa via its integration with Ring. I know that sounds great, but it is really only good for alerts for motion deduction. So if you are thinking you can be James Bond or Michael Knight cool and say Alexa “open garage door one”, you will be undoubtedly disappointed as I was.Ok, here’s a few things I don’t like so you are prepared.1) from the beginning it’s not clear that the initial kit only has one sensor (I know you can kind of deduce that from the box, but most garage doors come in at least pairs). Additional sensors cost more than main kit that comes with one.2) they don’t sell a full kit that either comes with 2 sensors or 2 sensors and the camera (my guess it’s for marketing so it looks cheaper, but you won’t be happy until you have a camera ($140) an all your garage doors on sensors ($29.98 each). I did the one door setup with no camera and was like how do I know for sure that the door is up or down. Or if I get a delivery they swipe something from garage or open the other door. So you add the camera and it just doesn’t make any sense not to have the other sensor.)! You may be able to find some Prime bundles for as low as $175.3) only use the smart camera My Q recommends. It works with the app so you don’t need a different one and it is magnetic and can stick to the opener or other surface for good positioning and great facial recognition. (Side bar – I tried the blink camera, which is great but sucks as the camera for your garage My Q system. It doesn’t integrate with My Q so it can not be controlled when you are in My Q. It works well with Alexa, but you can’t view it on Ring. So it will work for Key and it has a motion sensor when your garage door opens, but it won’t record continuously. You only get 10 seconds of motion. So you can see your garage go up and when it comes down, but you would have to actually go to live view to see what’s happening. I don’t know about you, but I want everything recorded if someone is coming in my garage to leave a package. I might not have time to pull over in traffic or interrupt a meeting to go to live stream my garage. Lol. You can try a ring camera for longer recordings, but still doesn’t integrate with My Q app but any other camera you will have the same issues and more apps. Look to spend about $200 or more if you want My Q everything in garage for convenience and peace of mind.Alexa, work on that skill so we can just say open or close garage!

This was an easy install following the directions and MyQ app. I elected to mount it on sidewall attached to the house for a better wi-fi signal, though it would have likely worked as a ceiling install as well. I’m a little leery of the double-sided tape sticking to the door, but only time will tell and if needed, I can readily replace it with a larger square for better adhesion. I have a three car garage and setting up the second sensor with the second opener was easy to complete following the MyQ app.The MyQ app allows you to set up co-owner with their own ID and my wife was quickly added. If you’d like you can create guest-users as well. You can also use it with Amazon key if you’d like, we haven’t tested it and will likely only use it for expensive items. You can set multiple schedules to close the garage door if you’d like it to automatically close at a preferred time. One feature that I think is missing from the app is a “time to close” so that the door automatically closes after a period of time has elapsed. To get around this limitation I set up a schedule that checks every 15 minutes from 7pm to 7am, if it finds the door open it will automatically close the door (this is a cludgy workaround but it appears to be working) I don’t have any home automation, but believe that there are ways to accomplish the “time to close” using IFTT or other. I’m hoping that it will be a feature that the manufacturer adds this feature to the MyQ app in the future. The MyQ app gives you the option to touch the button for your garage door or “press and hold” to activate (possibly more secure). I just set it touch. You can set up multiple authentication methods for the app, I believe that the default is always logged in. I prefer FaceID and elected that option instead. The MyQ app also provides configurable notifications or email notifications when the door is opened or closed. I elected to only get notifications sent to me on the phone (not email). I turned off notifications on y wife’s phone. So far, I’m pleased with this purchase and believe it will meet our needs.

I am so glad I picked up this garage “manager”. It’s already a pretty good price but I snagged it on a sale. I live in Victorian with a detached garage and commute to a job that’s an hour and 20 minutes away. No one was using this garage when I purchased the house and I added the opener when I moved in. I’m not sure how expertly the opener was installed in the first place however, I have come home once or twice to an open garage door which sends my anxiety into overdrive. Unsure of how my garage was opening, whether the push button was getting stuck or someone else’s opener may have triggered it, I purchased this device so that I could keep a better eye on it. It notifies me when my garage opens and closes every time (adjustable) so that I know I didn’t leave the garage open. Once in the middle of the day I got a message that my garage had opened on its own, is my garage haunted? Maybe, I was able to close it from my job an hour away and not stress about it the rest of the day. Having a 130-year-old house that is definitely not a “smart house”, it was very nice to be able to add this and feel less anxiety when away for work or other things. To the other people who gave it a bad review, they maybe have a hard time reading instructions or connecting things to Wi-Fi because I had no trouble. 🤷

I initially ordered this item from Amazon warehouse at half price. It arrived missing parts so I returned it. Was going to write a bad review but decided it would probably reflect poorly on the product and not Amazon, who actually messed up, so I didn’t write one at that time. Took the chance to order another thru the warehouse at half price and it arrived complete and like new. Instructions and videos made install a snap. Added my wife as another user. Now there’s no more wondering if we remembered to shut the garage door when we leave the house. I was not comfortable with giving Amazon access to my garage for deliveries so declined that option. Maybe later. This is the next best thing to a WiFi enabled garage door opener, which I’ll get when I eventually replace this opener. I would definitely recommend this product.

We had to replace the motor on one of our garages and the new motor came with MyQ so we got a chance to use the app for that door. We liked it so much that we decided to get the hub and sensors for the two remaining garage doors. Install and set up was super easy. I didn’t have to mount it on the frame or the wall. We have a peg board installed on our wall so we just attached it to that. I have a Tesla Model Y which doesn’t have homelink included but is an add on that costs hundreds of dollars! MyQ can be synced to my Tesla and works with a $45 per year subscription. That may sound like a lot just to open the garage door when you can still use the garage door opener remote but what’s great is that you can set the garage door to close automatically when your Tesla leaves the garage and auto open as you approach. You can adjust the distance at which you want either of those to take place. MyQ gives you a free month to feel it out and I have loved it. No more fumbling at night in a dark car for the remote. I think it’s worth it. I’ve spent $45 over the course of a year on some really dumb things…
