I hate having a bunch of remotes for various devices, so I definitely prefer an all-in-one. However, I hadn’t found one yet that would operate my tv, my roku and my vcr/dvd player (yes I still have one of those). Enter the GE Universal, and WOW – why didn’t I do this sooner?I recently purchased an identical replacement remote for my Roku Express to the one I have in my bedroom, because I wanted a remote that would at least operate the Roku and the TV together, just like like the one I purchased for my bedroom. I even purchased it from the exact same listing here on Amazon as the first one. Unfortunately, the manufacturer changed how that remote is made and it doesn’t work with my living room TV like the remote for the bedroom TV does. I followed all the directions and even reached out to their customer service department (no response). It just wouldn’t work. Then I noticed the model number had changed on that remote – there was the answer. Waste of money to buy that, I guess! So, I started searching for something that was a true all-in-one universal remote that would operate everything I have set up – my Roku Express, the Sony TV and the Funai DVD/VCR (I still have this device because there are movies I enjoy that are out of print and I’m in the process of transferring them from VHS to DVD). I found this remote, and not only was it cheaper, but it was a breeze to set up and works wonderfully well!1) Setup:This thing was incredibly easy to set up. It took me all of about 7 minutes to pair it up to the TV, Roku and DVD/VCR unit, and I’ve got room on the remote for a couple more devices if I ever need to do that.2) Ease of Use:Works like a charm! Because it’s a universal remote, you just have to remember to press the button corresponding to the device you want to control – so TV for the TV, DVD for the VCR/DVD unit and AUX for the Roku. Easy! This remote even has the little “house” or “home” button for the Roku – you can use that or the Menu button, both do the same thing.3) Size/Weight:This remote is stylish and lightweight – it’s less than half the weight of my Roku remote. Plus, it’s not as small as the Roku remote, which means there’s less chance of losing it. It’s slim and has a brushed aluminum-looking face plate, so dust won’t show as much as on a black remote (a petty annoyance, I know, but…)All in all, I’m very pleased with this remote and happy I purchased it. It was half the price of the replacement Roku remote I purchased.UPDATE: 1 month followup. Remote is still working well, no problems. So far, none of the problems I’m seeing others report (losing sync with devices, having to re-input codes, only working part of the time). Mine works consistently well, no problems.

I purchased three of these to replace three different remotes (different TVs) so my family could easily control all TVs without needing to master all three remotes and because the Mute button on our Sony TV remote is impossible to find. In addition to simple basic controls, the GE remote has all the key buttons we need like home, back, mute and menu buttons in easy layout. Also backlit buttons makes this an upgrade to existing TV remotes. A little manual to setup – you have to find your TV brand number using the tiny included startup manual and it seems a tad bit slower than the original remots but those a small factors considering the positives.

Works perfectly. Programmed with the first code for my TVs model. Lights up nice and bright to make it viewable in the dark so I don’t have to have a light on.I love the pink color too. Doesn’t come with batteries though so make sure you have them ready to go. Hopefully it doesn’t go through them quickly. But I am happy with this purchase.

I bought this GE Universal remote to replace the LG standard remote that came with my TV because it offers backlit (backlighting) keys. The price (~$10) and the thousands of reviews didn’t hurt either. The standard remote received with my LG UP7670 Series is not backlit and nearly impossible to use in a low lit bedroom. I believe this remote would also work with the LG UQ8000 series, as it is essentially the same TV, although it did get the upgraded (but also not backlit) LG ‘Magic Remote’–I have not tried it with the UQ8000 series because I use an Apple TV box to consolidate all my streaming apps on the family room TV, and that remote is superior in simplicity to anything else, when you aren’t entering something like a channel number. I was very pleasantly surprised that the very first LG code listed with the enclosed-with-the-remote ‘code sheet’ worked for the LG on first entry and controlled all the features seamlessly: On/Off, volume, channel, and even the navigation up, down, left, ride and select. Further, the home button will take you to LG Menu where Streaming Apps/Services can be selected, and a back button worked with (Amazon Prime I think it was) to move back in the menus of that streaming service). Some might consider it a drawback that the remote does not come with the 2 AA batteries required, as most TV included remotes do, but for $10.00 I don’t think that’s a reasonable expectation. So, I can highly recommend giving this remote a try with an LG TV. Now, for those who want to indulge me for a quick rant about LG’s remotes, keep reading: I’ve seen it hypothesized in many places that LG doesn’t backlight their remotes anymore to ‘save some cost’ to produce the TVs. If that’s the case then how in the hell can someone make and sell a remote that does everything the LG does, with backlighting, for $10? If that’s truly their rationale, then drop the free batteries and add backlighting.

I’ve had a lot of bad experiences with universal remotes- either they took days to program or just didn’t work. This one was SO MUCH DIFFERENT! The setup was quick and easy to understand; it worked on multiple devices with no confusion and total effectiveness!! I am so happy with this purchase!

I found that many hotels have proprietary remote controls for the televisions in the hotel rooms. The hotel remotes don’t give you access to all televisions features, specifically being able to select the input source. So if you want to hook your computer to the TV, or plug in a USB stick with audio or video content, or plug in a DVD player, you can’t select the input source without a regular remote control. At home, this remote replaced separate remotes for the TV, DVD player, Roku, and audio receiver/amplifier. It is preprogrammed for Samsung TVs which is what we have, but can be reprogrammed easily.

Didn’t have to set it up …already changing channels.. volume I can operate all the equipments in my home lightweight!! Put away my 6 other remotes !! This is All you need for the price !! I’ll suggest to come with batteries.. more convenience for the customer. …

….Than the ridiculous excuse for a remote control that came with my Samsung TV which was so small you could not grip it and the functions were hidden in too few buttons.
Amazon Customer –
It didn’t need any setup for my Apple TV and Samsung TV/sound bar. It worked out of the box. The only thing that took a minute to figure out is to get to the Apple TV home screen you double press the back button. The home button is for the TV home screen.

It was easy to pair my TV and my Roku. No need of having two remotes with this. Inexpensive and practical
