I bought the Peak Design Capture Camera Clip V3 to replace my existing V2 model. The V2 functioned well but was too large for my preference. The Clip V3 is more compact, but just as functional and secure. I purchased the black model. This clip is very attractive and well constructed. Watch the videos on the Peak Design website to see the versatility of the unit to secure your camera in various locations (chest, belt, camera bag strap, etc.). It is easy to attach and very secure when properly attached and used. The included Swiss Arca-style tripod plate inserts into, and removes easily from the Camera Capture Clip. Since the Clip is designed to directly hold the Arca-style camera plate, you can move the camera directly from the Clip to any Arca-style tripod head without any extra adjustments or hardware. The Clip does require the use of the specially provided camera plate which is square rather than rectangular. This limits your on tripod mounting options slightly, but I have not found it to be an issue, and I appreciate the compact nature of the entire camera carry system.Like most quality camera equipment, the clip is expensive. Peak Design uses first class design, materials and construction to ensure the retained camera is securely held in place until the photographer removes it for use. Removal is a quick, one handed operation.I was pleased and impressed by the V2 Camera Clip system and am more impressed by the improvements incorporated into the V3. I will buy it again when needed.

I was looking for a product to be able to quickly stow my camera when out of the bag without having to set it down or put it all the way back in my backpack. I had tried the Spider Holster Spider X Backpack Starter Kit, but found the mounting plate that attaches to the camera to be cumbersome especially when I was trying to get my camera system out of my backpack. The extended metal ball joint would get stuck in the backpack as I tried to take my camera out. I liked the appeal of this as a holster instead primarily because it is less sightly as a holster and it is much lower profile on the camera itself than the Spider Holster attachment. So the things that I like about this is: both the attachment to the camera and the capture clip are low profile and stylish. This keeps my camera very secure. It also has made switching lenses on my camera a bit of an easier than doing so with the camera free in my hand. The options of where to put the capture clip, whether it’s on my shoulder strap, belt clip, or even on my waist strap on the backpack itself, is equally appealing and not particularly hard to switch between. I also really like being able to change orientations of putting the camera into the holster. When using it on my waist strap, putting the camera lens down for storage is my go-to. When changing lens from my hip, having my camera facing forward is my preferred orientation. Just having the option is fantastic though. Additionally because of it’s low profile nature, I keep the capture clip mount constantly on my waist strap on my backpack and it tucks away fairly nicely so as not to get scuffed or dinged up.The things I don’t like about this: compared to the Spider X Backpack Kit, it’s just a little bit slower/harder process to get my camera out of the holster. The Spider X was incredibly easy and a fluid motion both in and out of the holster. The PD Capture Clip is not as fluid in that regard. It has a slightly higher learning curve and you have to look to put it in your holster because the margin of error is pretty narrow. I also don’t like that the capture clip and the PD Pro Pad are separate products needing to be purchased. I think they should come bundled together.Despite those two things, I think the positives far outweigh my dislikes. I am very pleased with this and would definitely recommend using this if you are looking for a quick holster device.

This clip works amazingly well and supports even the heaviest camera configurations. I am using it on one my backpack straps. It is extremely easy to put clip in when I no longer want to carry the camera or have it hanging around my neck. It is also quick and easy to slide it back out when I’m need to get the next shot. The mechanism for releasing the camera is ergonomically placed to make it easy, but it is NOT at risk at accidentally hitting it and releasing the camera. Additionally, when I want to make absolutely sure, you can lock the release so that it isn’t accidentally. However, I have not had to use it once yet.One suggestion: when you mount the clip, make sure you mount it in a way that accounts for camera swing from your gait, especially with heavier cameras and long zoom lenses. If you don’t, the camera will swing and hit against you every step you take, which can easily get irritating if you are hiking or walking a lot. My placement puts the camera about 1″ below my clavicle, and the camera spans down to my waistline; with this placement, most of the swing is absorbed, and it’s easy and convenient to rest my hand against the camera if I need to run/jog.The mounting plate is a standard Arca plate, so will work with any other mounting hardware that supports that plate style. Additionally, the mounting plate has special openings in the corners that allow the loops for their camera straps to slide through, without interfering with the Arca slide for mounting.I highly recommend this plate for anyone who is looking for a high quality camera clip, especially if you already have other products within the Peak Design ecosystem.

I bought the Capture for my Sony A7III with 24-105 f/4 zoom (2.9 lb/1.3 kg together). Clipped to the strap of my backpack, it is by far the most comfortable way to carry that camera/lens combination out of those I’ve tried. The camera is in sight and within easy reach, securely locked but easily unclipped, and I hardly notice the additional weight on the strap, even after hours of walking. When I got it, I spent some time getting the position on the backpack strap right and practicing detaching and attaching the camera with one hand. I could then always do it reliably. I detached/attached my camera hundreds of times and never felt I was at risk of dropping it. A strap is still safer, of course, but you can add a safety line if you want.Build quality is great, which honestly is the minimum at this price point. The edges of the plate, inevitably, are quickly worn down to bare metal by the constant clipping and unclipping, but the coating on the clip’s receptacle hasn’t worn much so far.My only major gripe with the system, which is not a fault but an inherent limitation, is that it doesn’t work as well with slings and messenger bags. I tried Peak Design’s own 10 l sling bag, which has fabric bands at the sides for fitting the clip, but the weight of camera and bag on the single (mediocre) strap is quickly bothersome. Fit aside, the immediacy is just not there anymore; I could not figure a way to unclip the camera safely and reliably with the bag tightly secured to my back (where it’s most comfortable) and loosening the bag first adds a bit of time to the proceedings, which quickly adds up if you attach and detach the camera often. Use with messengers is probably best limited to light camera/lens combinations.Other caveats:- The clip barely fits my Thule backpack strap in both width and depth. Thickness can be dealt with thanks to the included pair of longer screws but I’m not so sure about width — do your own research carefully.- The thumbscrews do loosen little by little — I’ve seen a significant amount after only a few hours of walking around. Make sure they are tight and check on them every once in a while. At least they can be easily retightened without a tool.- The plate can only be secured with the included hex key, as it has no D ring on the screw, an annoyance common to several Peak Design products. Have the tool with yourself when you’re out and about, in case you inadvertently loosen the plate (for example by yawing the camera about).Even with all these caveats, I do like the Capture. After having it for a while I find it hard to do without, to the point where I carry a backpack with the clip where before I’d have preferred a messenger bag. If it fits your requirements, I recommend you give it a try.

This clip is such a great idea and it works like a charm. Peak design puts out some really good stuff. I actually would have rated this four and a half Stars if it was possible only because once the plate snaps into place on the clip it is there for good but it just has a little teeny tiny disconcerning Shake or wobble in it it by no means is a problem your camera is not coming out but I wish it was just a little bit more solid fitting. Still it is great and I’m glad that I purchased it

This is such a clever piece of kit, I use it for ease of access to my camera while hiking when I don’t want to carry it by the strap around my neck. It’s best to test fitting it to your bag before your trip as the slider has only quite a narrow gap so it won’t fit on a padded park of a bag strap. It will also take some getting used to fitting it at the right angle so you can easily release the camera and that it’s sitting comfortably when you’re moving around. Once you’ve cracked this though it’s great, the release is smooth and it’s possible to do with one hand if your camera isn’t too big but it feels very secure because of the knob you turn to lock in place the release mechanism. It does tend to need adjusting if you take this on a multiday trip and in general making sure the knobs are turned as tight as possible, I think this is to be expected for carrying your camera over many hiking miles. Also be sure to bring the included Allen key with you if you need to switch to a tripod as the base place which clips to the holder can only be removed with this and doesn’t itself fit to a tripod. My camera is quite compact with a kit lens so it may be more challenging to attach and fit comfortably for a larger heavier camera

I use tons of Peak Design products. The Peak Design Leash is my go-to camera strap; I probably have 7 or 8 of those. I got these for a trip to California at the beginning of the year, and it worked beautifully. I usually carry two cameras, and this was a great way to carry a heavier camera & lens on a strap around my neck and a lighter camera & lens attached to this instead of having both on straps. So I used my OM System OM-1 + 40-150mm on the strap and my E-M5 Mark III + 8-25mm on this.Worked out great. Like every Peak Design product I’ve used, I highly recommend it.

Used one of these a friend had. Threw the plate on my camera and used his PD bag for the day. Loved it so much, I had to buy one for myself. I however opted for the Pro Pad as I like my camera more near my hip than up near my face. I find it easier to reach down to remove it and be able to see it instead of trying to twist my head to see something right up by my shoulder.Amazon messed up and sent me the wrong item the first time for the Pro Pad, so still waiting to test out that setup. But from experience, I know this clip is great and does a fantastic job holding the camera.

I use my Capture Clip V3 on a Z30 with the FTZ and a 200-500mm and haven’t had any trouble with loosening (the clip is screwed into my FTZ because the V1 FTZ protrudes down, but I’ve screwed into the Z30 body with Z mount lens). If you have trouble with screws loosening, either in the plate or in the camera body, I recommend Loctite/Permatex threadlocker. They make varying grades, some are designed only to be removed with tools: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08Y9B5QD1
