These Blackberry Hand Pies are so easy to make and absolutely delicious. Only a few ingredients and come together very quickly. If you have followed our site for any amount of time, you know we love blackberries. Deep Dish Blackberry Cobbler may be one of our all time favorite foods and these hand pies really do have that wonderful taste and are so easy to make! Which is a win win!

Try these Baked Blackberry Hand Pies

Yes you read that right, these are baked, so no need to get out the oil! We love fried pies as much as the next person but these are really good too. These pies are only a few ingredients and so good.

  • 2 premade pie crusts or you could make your own
  • Fresh blackberries
  • White granulated sugar
  • one egg

You can easily make your own pie crust and this is our favorite recipe. We use the premade pie crust to save time and they work really well for this delicious treat. We sprinkle these with sugar but you can also use cinnamon or nutmeg.

Why you will love these easy pies?

These pies are a wonderful single serving dessert. Great to make for a gathering as each person can have their own pie and this recipe makes 10 pies. When you serve these you can always add ice cream.

If you are using frozen blackberries, set them out and let them thaw before making the pies. You can also make these ahead of time, just line them on a baking pan with parchment paper, then cover with saran wrap and keep in the refrigerator. Then bake when you are ready to make them and we love to top them with a powdered sugar glaze. The glaze is a great addition but you can easily leave it off.

Are these hand pies hard to make?

No, these are so simple and so easy, especially when using the premade pie crust. We cut each one out with a 5 inch diameter bowl and then you just add the blackberries, sprinkle with sugar and fold dough over and crimp with a fork. Yes, they may leak some while cooking, that is okay and as you can see ours aren’t perfect because we don’t do perfection.

Why did you bake these pies and not fry them?

We decided to bake these since we already have Fried Apple Pies on the website and wanted to try baking them. We get asked a lot “Can you bake these hand pies?”.. so now we can easily say, YES you can bake them. The baked hand pies are so good and really had the crust consistency of a cobbler. We all agreed these were amazing and this recipe is definitely a keeper.

We researched the temperature on which to cook these on and we found many different opinions. We chose a lower heat and they baked perfectly.

These pies leaked a little on the edges and that is just going to happen, no worries it takes nothing away from how incredibly delicious they are! Try these today!

Yes, you absolutely can! Mix it up and enjoy this simple recipe. We love easy and delicious recipes and this one is on the list. Blueberry would be great, apple, cherry try them all. If you love blackberry recipes as much as we do try these:

  • 2 pie crusts We used frozen pie crusts but could make your own
  • 2 to 3 cups frozen or fresh blackberries
  • 1/3 cup white granulated sugar
  • 1 egg beaten
  • Roll out pie crusts. Use a five inch round bowl or whatever you have to cut out the dough for the pies.

  • Add 5 or six blackberries to each round piece of dough. Sprinkle one teaspoon sugar on berries.

  • Fold dough over and crimp edges with a fork to seal. Brush tops of pies with egg yoke. Place on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper.

  • Sprinkle more sugar on top of each pie or could sprinkle on some ground ginger or cinnamon.

  • Bake in preheated 375 degree oven for 20 minutes or until brown on top. Makes 10 hand pies.

We added a glaze to the pies after they cooled. You could use other fruits to make these such as apples, cherries, blueberries, etc. Pie filling should work, too.
