Shortly after the war between Russia and Ukraine broke out, Google announced that it’s disabling some of its Google Maps features in Ukraine such as traffic information and crowd data. Google argues that the data could be used as military intelligence. Now, Google is adding Air Strike alerts for its Ukrainian users.
The new update comes as part of Google’s Play Services and reportedly, Google is enabling it on the request of the Ukrainian government. The feature is supposed to be supplemental to the already existing raid alert systems.
The company’s VP of Engineering says that Google used the same low-latency system that’s as for detecting earthquakes.
